Hi,
I tested different Sorc builds on the PTR and would like to give my Feedback:
It is painfully obvious what we already knew in the last 2 Seasons, Sorc Core-Skills are severely lacking in scaling mechanisms, the only “good” once we had were Devouring Blaze and Splintering (which even synergize) and Conj Mastery. All of which are now missing ^^.
I remodded several builds with the new Paragons and the reworked passives. And don’t get me wrong, I like not being holed into Burning and Conj for each and every build, but the compensations are severly lacking.
I don’t have min-maxed gear but better gear than my S6 Sorc with Paragon 270.
-
Frost/Orb Sorc → wasn’t that good in S6, now without the main-scalings it is already hard to do WT4 open World content even with 3 Mythics and all MW12
-
Chain Lightning → the only “usable” way I found to play it was with + Ranks to Shocking Impact, GA Frostburns and GA Resource Axial Conduit, and run a max-Lucky-Hit Build and get the Damage from Frostburns and Shocking.
-
→ S6: Speedfarm PIT 85 in 2 min - S7PTR: PIT80 in 5 min it feels like we do 1/4 or 1/5 dmg without Splintering/Devouring
-
Ball Lightning → I don’t know if the scaling doesn’t work correctly, but even with 20 BL out there It feels even less damage than Splintering
-
Fireball → Feels relatively similar to S6 variant still has the old issue that in cramped spaces/tunnels or with trees/rocks in the way you deal waaay less damage.
All in all, I find the new uniques quite fun, but in the current PTR version, the Sorc is nerfed into oblivion and I am fearful that the overhauls needed won’t make it into live. Most of the builds would need a global 500% more damage multiplyer to be on the same level as in Season 6 → And we were already the weakest class in S6 except bugged Fireball/shatter PIT build.

Burning instinct was nerfed again? why?
are not sorcs nerfed enough.
after Trying the PTR I realize nothing will change and playing this game with a sorc is a big waste of time.

I’ve stubbornly stuck to a Frost Nova/Ice Shard/Blizzard/Shatter build with Shako, Penitents, and Icehearts for several patches (since launch to be honest, although I played only Necro for awhile,) because the synergy and setup is amazing and it just feels like a really natural way to play a freezing build.
This is super disheartening because I knew the build wasn’t top, and was never really going to be unless Blizz threw a new unique at it and made it FOTM - but I read the patch notes and they seemed horrible and glad to know at least, if some changes don’t come before live I know from other’s experience I’m best off throwing my sorc in the dungeon for awhile.

100% agree, these are long lasting problem from sorc, all power are from bug or borrowed power, real core skills are very weak
If the don’t fix it before s7 live, I go go another ARPG

same with barbarian. And now druid is heading the same way with all the buffs to lightning bolts. It seems they can’t figure out a way to make skills do the damage without gimmicky mechanics and weird interactions/sheananigans. Which it wouldn’t be that bad if we had the choice to go with that options but we don’t so…
Anyway, i don’t play sorc but i hope they see this and buff it accordingly.

Same here, if sorc stays like this, i’m gonna quit D4.

The class is so weak it is a torture to play it. I have played sorc all seasons, but it has never been this weak, not even in S1.

Best state of Sorcerer as a class was Season 4 + Season 5 imho. We had several good builds with Frozen Orb, Lightning Spear, Chain Lightning, Fireball, Firebolt and even BL.
Now it’s back to the same pre-Season1 Patch logic: “we see, all sorcs are using Conjuration, Dev Blaze and Splintering, so let’s just kill all of those and then take a few seasons to give compensation”…

i have lost my interest in D4. No Real positive changes for Sorcerer ,still nerfing, still saying : dont play with it. No nerfs to imba SB. A lot of ppl paid and buyed it so they didnt want to make customers angry immediately hahah…let them enjoy one more season.
Good luck. Congs.i will try poe. i just dont want to think about which class will be manipulated and made Overpowered or Underpowered every next season. i just want to play a balanced solid game with any available class i can choose. if i choose Sorc to play in any season , thats not your concern Blizz. You should only balance them and let players decide their own joy. These Blizz team is far far away to understand this mentality.
Altough its the weakest class in s6 still nerfs.

Well she’s weaker than S6. Only halfway decent lightning build is BL with the new focus. They can’t leave her like this. Maybe fire builds but overall big nerf across the board again.

Yeah, let’s just hope there will be buffs for S7 Live… but I only have minimal hope here…
I could be completely off here but…
- Sorc feels really good from 1-60 on pretty much any build.
- Sorc is heavy on AOE power
- boosting sorc base damage with AOE power may make leveling content trivial
- They are left trying to add endgame power with aspects and unique items
I guess this could work but does not seem to be great so far, i mean they gave us strong builds with winterglass and splintering only to then nerf both of them into the ground and take everything else that touched those builds with it.
Because sorcs real struggle seems to be at higher torment and especially the pit, maybe addressing base skill scaling with paragon would be a more stable lever to pull that would not disrupt what is actually good with 1-60?
Of course intra-class skill balance is still an issue with some builds just not having a chance in higher content
Also if firebolt, devouring blaze, and conjuration mastery were crutches that needed to be fixed, where are the changes to shatter which props up the class on pit completion and makes it look way stronger than it actually is?

The real last boss for the Sorc balance team is Tal’Rasha’s.
I want them to blow up that item sooooo bad, but I’m scared they’ll fail to replace the power boost it gives.
It will probably be something like “We noticed, that most sorcerers use TalRashas in their build. To get more choice for the ring slot, we removed the damage aspect of Tal-Rashas”
They have been working on it for 3 seasons already… From Five stacks to four to three, and from dmg of an element type to a cast per stack.
The best way for them to remove Talrasha dependency is to create power in elemental specialization. Right now, even with the recent nerfs mixing elements still makes stronger builds than any sort of specialized build. if they change that they can leave Talrasha as is as an item that supports mixed element builds that don’t benefit from elemental specialization.
This approach gives the greatest player choice as we would then be able to choose. Then we can decide we want to be a Frost sorc, or Fire, or Lightning, or a weaver of elements, and have all of them be equally viable.
