So I tried Ray Tracing

Turned it on, game crashed. Restarted, hit Start Game, game crashed again. Turned it off.

Makes it unplayable on my Xbox, even when I turn it off the game looks different. Kinda washed out so maybe something else is going on.

Haven’t tried it on PC yet.

What’s the windows log on when it crashes and do you get blizzard crash report window?

I get a blizzard prompt, yes. I haven’t checked the windows log. Probably won’t bother with it.

RT on a console was never meant to be. Just face it the RT is only for a high end card because it updates every month and a console has a small portion of that RT tech.

I also setup Ray Tracing and tried it out:

Actually works pretty well. I did have to lower the FPS cap to keep it smoother, and enabled Frame Gen to offset the demand, but it works very well. Plays pretty smooth.

RTX 4080 Super FE

32GB DDR5

1440P @ 100FPS with max quality.

You can see the settings in the video above, and the difference with Frame Gen on and off.

Though the youtube version of the video doesn’t do the actual justice. Since it is down graded to 1080p and 60FPS (I think).

Hope it helps!

I already have Frame Gen and DLSS enabled.

May want to try renaming the LocalPrefs file to force the game to reset to defaults, then go from there. Just make sure you are not in the game and exit the battlenet launcher. (and make sure its closed)

Sometimes a patch can have issues/cause issues with that file. Located in Diablo IV under your Documents folder.

I am not sorry. I am sorry that so much of this game was dumbed down for consoles. But then again I am an elitest PC snob lol.

Are the PS5 and Xbox Series X not Raytracing compatible? Thought they were…

EDIT: Tried it, literally could not tell the difference so turned it off to not waste resources.

It is a pretty big performance hit although I’m pretty happy they went along and added it. I’m sure they will make optimizations along the way and although it can be difficult for some to run right now, D4 will be around for a long while so its great they are implementing it early and hardware will catch up along the d4 journey

:sunglasses: Clearly you weren’t ready for them rays

been blowing up with a new necro whose level 55 thanks to the xp buff. no crashes, no big slowdowns (much smoother than LE) PC is still cool to the touch and not loud. seems pretty good to me.

Tbh for me and my mid range PC i always have issues with ray tracing in everygame that has it so, i am not surprised. I didn’t crash though, but i was only using low and performance setting, it eats Vram i would think, or gpu power whatever both idk, so maybe why you crashed, i also prefer a custom fan curve as you will be running hot, since its making real time calculation and graphics etc

Think about the power, and settings even the console version has to run ray tracing and not without issues from what i hear. So you may also need to nerf your FPS and settings to get it stable. Or have a beasty PC

No doubt optimization on the games end is needed though, like every game with RT.

The slowest I could get the game to run was 40 fps, but it was in a zoomed out battle with giga splosins lol

Usually big battles are in the 70s

Ryzen 5800X, Radeon 7800 XT - 1080p @ 54-70 fps with everything cranked.
It’s subtle. Might worry about it later.
