So i learned today how seasons work in D4 and i already want to quit

I know…i know it’s my fault. I didn’t do my research. The only other diablo game i played was d2. I came to D4 from Lost Ark under the impression it will be similar type of arpg. But now i am reading that every three months, the new season will reset the characters and you have to start from scratch again. I can’t do that over and over again.

I am a casual player and i get attached to my main. If i can’t experience the new content on my main i see no point to continue to playing. All that time spent to lvl to max and get all paragon points, gear etc just for it to become worthless. I already feel defeated.

I am very close to finishing the campaign and once i finish the story and explore the entire map i will say goodbye and go back to Lost Ark. Whatever time i spent in this game since launch was fun so i got my money’s worth. I like the game just not the idea of lvling a new character every three months. I know i am in minority here and i wish you all happy grinding. Peace

I’m surprised playing new character every season is news to lots of players. I played PoE, on and off and haven’t played Standard (normal server/game) for years. Always seasons and always new character. It’s actually fun and more casual that way. You don’t get attached to your seasonal char much and every season you try something new. It does get repetitive but I always come back to PoE. I really hope d4 seasons will deliver interesting enough content worth starting new character every season.

As for main character, eventually I’ll get him to lvl 100 and that’ll be it for him.

You better do more research.

You can keep on playing on the Eternal season without any problem. Your characters wont be deleted. You wont lose anything.

I did. I read Rod Fergusson post on twitter. New season every three months and you have to make a new character and start from lvl 1. The main gets parkes to eternal realm. Only way to play new content is so start from lvl 1 every three months.

I love how even this, is met with derision.

Best of luck to you, and hope D4 might one day resemble a game you’ll be happy returning to.

Unfortunately you made a mistaken purchase, and I am sorry about that for you – it sucks when you think a game is one thing and it isn’t what you thought it was.

Diablo IV was never going to be like Lost Ark. Lost Ark is an MMORPG that has ongoing progression (the hallmark of MMOs), while Diablo is an ARPG that has restarts. The only similarity between the two is the combat system, and that’s it.

Your character won’t be reset – it doesn’t get touched actually. What does happen, though, is that a new server is opened each season, which has some dynamic content on it (which is normally a twist on the gameplay mechanic), and perhaps a few quests associated with that new mechanic, but otherwise the new server has the same content. There aren’t “seasonal content drops” like a game like Destiny or Lost Ark have … it isn’t the content model. So you aren’t “missing out on content drops”, because there aren’t any. Periodic repetition, with a seasonal twist or two, is the content, and as a bonus you get some cosmetic rewards for doing that if you are interested.

The next chunk of “content” will come when WT5 is released, and we don’t know when that is. And then, after that, when the first expansion is released. And until then, and between those, the game has seasonal new servers. Nothing is “reset”, it’s just that you can start fresh on a new server with a twist or you can take a break, because either way there isn’t much in the way of “new content” in the game until WT5 and then the expansion.

I hope you find a game you enjoy playing.

You’ll have to come back at the end of every season so you can play the content on your Eternal Realm character. It’s no different than the 3 month cycle the Seasonal players have, you’re just one cycle behind them.

It’s not THAT big of a deal. You don’t have to do anything. Stop being goofy.

Same i am just afraid it wont be anywhere near as good as poe,s because there is no fresh economy and i have done a different build every single season which keeps it fresh.
Dont know how D4 will keep it interesting with its limited skill tree, bland paragon board and the aspects basically being pesudo sets shoe horning us into builds.
Also there is the topic of damage buckets and vulnerability being so mandatory it stifles any build creativity.

Wait and see i guess

Well, they have a lot to work on then! Hopefully, every season will bring something new, class, board etc…
They could’ve made a game, a puzzle out of a paragon board but no…

Almost always every season has a mechanic to help level faster.

I imagine this will be the case especially in D4 because leveling is slow.

That’s the whole idea of being able to choose buffs for the season 1 will be a major exp buff.

Well, you can experience the new content, just not the temporary seasonal content. Not as big of a loss as you’d think. You will get expansions too which you can continue with your character.

Take care!

This is for you.

The issue is how Diablo 4 loot is designed. Resets are fun in D2 because its reset of economy. and its fun to start from 0 with friends, its competing who will be rich faster. There is no such thing in D4.

Traditionally seasons in Diablo are not expansions. They are essentially just replays with a theme or maybe a twist or new mechanic that may or may not be added to the game permanently.

I don’t think anyone should set expectations for new classes each season though. That sounds like something that would be given to us in an official expansion or DLC, which generally add more story to the campaign in the Eternal Realm.

Of course I am speculating myself here but it’s based on past experience with the franchise.

That is how seasons (ladders) worked (still do?) in Diablo 2.

Seasons have been a thing in Diablo since Diablo 2 patch 1.10 which came out in October of 2003, so almost for 20 years now. And yes, Diablo 2 ladder seasons also had uniques only available for ladder characters.

But, to be fair, a lot of Diablo 2 players never even logged on to Battle.net, so perhaps there are some who did actually play Diablo 2, and don’t know about seasons.

Also, it should be said that the Diablo 2 ladder seasons were quite a bit longer than just a few months, for what that’s worth. The Fandom Diablo wiki has a full list of all the 27 ladder seasons for Diablo 2.

You know it doesnt reset the characters that you have completely right? They just become non seasonal? Much like you are playing now. NOTHING will happen to your current character. Seasons are just there for “Fresh starts”, Keeps the game fresh and replayable. People get off on that stuff.

My only gripe is battle pass is tied to it, Kinda lame IMO.
