So i learned today how seasons work in D4 and i already want to quit

Play the eternal realm if you want to hit level 100 at a casual pace. This is not an attack, it’s just what it is. The only point to seasons is to mess with whatever new stuff they add at that time.

It’s my understanding the seasonal content moves to eternal once it ends.

Edit: By eternal, I mean the non-seasonal realm.

This is not accurate, every 3 months you will have the opportunity to progress on a new character for seasonal cosmetics in fresh servers with people doing the same. No characters are reset, you can continue to play your Eternal character/main and ignore seasons entirely.

Not that it matters but:

  1. Keep playing your eternal realm character
  2. Seasonal content will come to the eternal realm once the season is over
  3. You’re not required to play seasons
  4. You’re not on a monthly subscription so quit, don’t quit: who cares.
  5. Are you having fun? If yes, why quit? Just keep playing your main and enjoy the game.

Ok cool

Have fun with the other games

Depends. From what I read, new game mechanics, battle passes for the cosmetic , non campaign story additions will be limited to seasons. So basically , most if not all new contents goes into seasons only and doesn’t get carried over into the eternal realm.

the problem is this game is too slow, PoE doesn’t take nearly the amount of time this game does to reach a high level.

So using PoE as a seasonal example, is a very poor example. It isn’t even close to being the same.

This game is incredibly slow paced, so seasonal gameplay will be grueling if you need to make a new character. There is also TRADING in D2 and PoE.

People are seriously not taking that into real consideration.

You must be a Diablo4 dev if you know how seasons will operate befor the general public, I guess it is time to find a new job lolol

It’s not your fault. It wasn’t explained well and if you are new to the genre you wouldn’t know. Blizzard should push the first season back to 3 months imo. It would go a long way to making people feel a bit better about the time investment they have already put in theid characters.

It is their fault, anything a person does, is their fault. If you buy a game, you have 3 options,
Play it, find it fun and move along
Play it, hate it and come to the forums to reee, and not move along, then continue to play it anyways.
Uninstall the game, take the L you gave your self, and go find a new game to hate.

I appreciate this mindset, it really grinds on me that most people are blaming Blizzard even though all of the information was readily available for a while now. Just wanna add a couple of things though as you don’t seem quite up to date.

First, the character you have already leveled will not be affected, when seasons start they will be on a fresh server where you create a new character but your original characters/gear/gold/everything will still be on the eternal realm.

I really recommend you at least try a season, they aren’t just the same thing you have done before, sure you have to level something fresh, but there are usually added systems and mechanics to keep things interesting. Not to mention seasons often come with updated/reworked/balanced skills and sometimes (at least in PoE) completely new skills to play with. People seem to think that the idea of seasons is to get you to repeat the exact same content every 3 months, but it is not, the idea is to keep players coming back, and to keep players coming back you have to give them something new every time.

when we get season 2 stuff you will be getting the season 1 stuff minus the rewards (stash tabs etc )

Except after every season that had an unpopular mechanic and doesn’t get ported to Eternal, then you’re just shafted

After the season, they move over to the eternal realm.
Eternal Realm gets all itemization changes/updates at season start. So any new uniques and legendary aspects/codex

You gotta do what makes you happy man, but a few things:

1- D2 had ladder resets which were essentially seasons.
2- Seasons offer more fun ways to play the game and the way it seems there will be XP buffs to speed up the process.
3- You can keep playing non season, I know a lot of players that do that in D2, PoE, D3 etc… when a season mechanic is good, it may go core afterward and become a part of the game which can add more fun for your non-season characters.

Again, your choice man, but do not ever feel forced to HAVE to play seasons.

seasons are a type of gameplay thats been around for years in diablo. its not forced though but you dont get season rewards without putting in season effort. in d3 it took maybe 4-6 hours to unlock most the seasonal rewards if thats all you care about

Hey buddy, quick story.

When Shadowlands burnout kicked in, early too, I ended up going back to D3 just out of total boredom.

I fired up my old DH and after some initial chatting it didn’t take long to notice I was the only one playing a non-seasonal toon, everyone else had a leaf icon next to their names.

This was eye opening, so I said to hell with it and made a new seasonal Monk, I hate Monk in WoW but had heard the seasonal theme had some good stuff going on for Monks.

They weren’t wrong!

Holy cow level it was a blast, the seasonal affix had turned my Monk into a GOD! I was blowing up everything, it got really edgy at higher levels, as the power output was huge but the incoming damage was also massive, so if you messed up it was over, but no harm done, tons of fun!

Please, before throwing your game in the trash, I implore you to try at least one season. Blizz knows they are popular, so will make an effort in that regard I am sure of it.
If you hate it, THEN you can thrown the game in the trash, but like me you may be surprised and have a great time.

Good luck.

right…because you don’t have to play a full roster of alts every single day on Lost Ark to even just keep up with the constant upgrades on a single main…Seasons are definitely a terrible concept in contrast to that forever daily grind…okay.

Thanks for the departure announcement, is that what you want to hear then?

cool story, but you shouldn’t have to start a new character to have fun.

It would be very easy for Blizzard to implement the season mechanics and rewards to eternal realm, and simply keep the season leaderboard separate.

You Dont HAVE to start a new character every 3 months, Just keep playing the one you are on now on the Eternal Realm.

Im Probably gonna do every other season, I think 2x a year reset is fine

I Barely get to play, and just hit lvl 56, Learn how to play the game now, and you will be faster at it when you do make a new character

You don’t have to play the season. It is not mandatory.
