Skill effect stacking

So I’m trying to think about builds.

Do we know If one skill gives 24% slow, and another skill gives 25% slow, and I hit them with both, assuming there’s overlapping time on the slow do I get 100%->76%->57% speed for that overlap or does only the higher of the two take effect?

I would opt for a different secondary effect if they don’t stack, or another skill entirely.

only highest number counts afaik. What youd want is chills, they stack.

Thanks, not sure if chill is an option but if I know the rules I can plan a build I can be proud of… (would’ve stopped at thanks but letters)

the same effect only adds if it comes from a different proc. So, a direct damage skill that gives slow will not work with another direct damage that gives slow. However, an indirect damage skill will add. Also, Paragon appears to just add but I was not in closed Beta so I cannot state this is true myself. Also, it appears to work much better for lucky hit and vulnerable - there are even build around just maximizing one or both of these conditions.

D4 is going to be all about CC and vulnerable damage stacking. It’s going to be the meta. You’ll miss out on like 50% or more extra damage if you don’t.

It is more about vulnerable. There are certain bosses that are all but immune to CC. My Death trap Ult for Rogue was doing a fraction of the damage on the boss at the end of the Rogue Class Quest dungeon. Poison Trap and Caltrops did nothing.

Yeah but no one is going to fully make their spec around just bosses since you will be farming dungeons with trash and elites 99% of the time LUL.

In dungeons (the actual end game) you will need to CC for the extra damage for fast clears. Even in beta the meta was farming the first part of dungeons and skipping the final bosses.

Fast clears of dungeons is going to be the actual end game of D4.

World bosses don’t matter. They won’t drop the best gear. Nightmare dungeons will.

This is why I hate myself. Mentally, I really want to complete the entire dungeon. I just do not feel right about not doing everything. I will even go back a long way in in order to completely clear dungeon. Still, you are correct. I was dropping mobs left and right before the bosses. So, I will probably use the early warning system (there is always a healing shrine and safe area before the bosses) in order to switch out skills and my build will have seven or more skills instead of passives - saving passives for Paragon. At this point, I plan on avoiding the World Bosses unless they have storyline significance.

In the beta I had a boss-swap gear set.

Planning to do the same in full release.

What about overpower damage? how desired is that going to be?

I imagine that this will change with nightmare sigil dungeons. I’d like to hope that the end boss of those will actually drop some gear unlike the beta dungeons, plus you are going to need to finish it to get a new sigil anyway.

What I will be curious to see is as we progress to higher level sigils, which will become the challenge to defeat; the trash or the boss. You may not be able to build your character entirely for trash and still kill a high level sigil boss. We shall see.

The trash just dropped so easily in beta… I’m hoping the decreased drop rate might make them more of a challenge.

As I understand it, Overpower is the next level of critical damage. So, a crit. build should have overpower by default as the more often you crit, the more often you overpower. Still, someone will try to build around just overpower but I don’t think it will be as effective as someone who build around crit. and overpower. I just don’t know how easy it will be to get stuff with both affixes.

Overpower is a flat damage increase based on fortify and current life. The damage is not affected by critical strikes. So if you do both at once, only the non overpower damage is affected by the critical.

While you can Crit and Overpower on the same attack, they are in no way related.

Overpower is a fixed 3% chance. Some skills guarantee an Overpower when certain conditions are met.

Thanks for the correction. I will change my responses going forward.

maybe that is where I got confused. Thanks for the reply and I will change going forward.

I’d love to see the formulas For damage/affect but I don’t want to get that granular yet… it’s like I want to know, but I don’t want to think that to that level of detail yet as I don’t even know if I’ll like the build I’m making yet… kinda want to mess up a few times before I settle on fine tuning a build. I’m glad that the thread has started some theory discussion beyond my original question. Making me consider other aspects of the game. Nice distraction till launch

That’s clever

People can always carry extra gear for bosses

Or just play a rogue. Then you just swap from shadow to poison imbuement on the fly. Rogue is going to probably be the best farming class. Nothing in your build needs to change, or in your gear.

Necro is pretty good at everything also. Bone spear build with minions will destroy any content.
