I spent six hours playing as a sorcerer yesterday, already anticipating that I’d boycott Season 8. But, as they say, give Blizzard the benefit of the doubt and give it a shot. Unfortunately, I find myself disappointed yet again—the sorcerer still feels incredibly weak, while necromancers and rogues are effortlessly one-shotting everything.
I listened to Lurkin’s podcast, and it’s frustrating how the Blizzard team continues to dismiss any chance of making the sorcerer a genuinely enjoyable class. So, at level 56, I decided to quit. I logged off, and honestly, with the increased difficulty, it’s just not worth the time or energy. Last season was amazing, but this one? Not for me. Have fun.

Do you want to run around 1-shotting and trivializing everything on day 2? Is that what’s fun? I’m enjoying sorcerer. I intend to have my sorcerer in T4 on a build I like… which means I won’t be leveraging lightning spear.

Have you tried Bloodwave yet? Its basically a Summoner that pretends to be a Sorcerer and does the job better than a Sorcerer

Suddenly I feel the urge to start up another Sorc just to see which side I more agree with.

Groups for T4 Belial are only accepting Necros for speedfarming the boss

I started getting better drops right around level 50, so maybe hold out a little longer? I had a lot of fun with a bouncy fireball build last season, eventually. Switched between that and meteor and had a blast in T4. But I had to start out as incinerate until I got the items I needed.
It’s your decision to quit of course! But in my experience so far, you are quitting right when it starts to get good (like it used to be).

You replied to the wrong person
This. The slog from 1 to 50 was painful, but things start opening up around then. Started getting good drops around then and build started to come together.
I don’t quite understand because a LS Sorc was blowing stuff up in front of me before I could and I’m pretty damn fast. Maybe play a LS Sorc then?

Yep hit T1 this morning, with my advertised build from the other thread, and enjoying it so far.
Beat Grigoire at p48 no levels on glyphs, they aren’t really activated…and then he kicked my butt like 3 times.
Then I realized I only had 300 armor.
Did not get my staff so need to go back.

Do it.
If someone quits at lvl56,
You have to ask yourself what he has access to at this point.
No paragon…just gear and tree. So…my guess would be not updating gear frequently enough.

At least it didn’t cost you materials to fail!

Yeah that was the thinking when I went, I have no business being there yet.
But I need the Staff of Liam Neeson.
It has a very particular set of skills. Skills it has acquired over a very long career. Skills that will make me a nightmare for demons.

Ummm - what?
So, basically your advice for anyone wanting to play an actual sorcerer class, with elemental spells and the sorcerer CC and mobility kit is to - play a necro?
LOL

Just going to end this thread with: Bouncing Fireball Sorc.
You’re welcome.
Been creating a Bouncing Fireball Sorc since Season 5 when they were S-tier (been playing D4 since launch) and they’re STILL S-Tier for clearing/speed running. Not sure what Sorc you’re playing with that’s making your experience bad, but lots of Incinerate/Fireball Sorcs plague D4. Come to Torment 3, bunch of us there screen clearing.

I’ve been playing an ice shard/frost nova/blizzard build since launch. Absolute champ at aoe.
With the enchantment multipliers, new aspect, and swapping from the gutted shatter to the multiplier-enhanced avalanche, ice shard should be amazing at single target, right?
Well…the difficulty increase means everything feels pretty much the same, although now I do a little damage to bosses before they are staggered.
(Tried the new helm, in place of a shako, got alternate gear to try and make up for the lost and changed stats, it was awful and I changed back right away.)

It’s kind of insane to release new items for Ice Shards and then make it a worse build than lightning spear, which has been meta since before the expansion.
Also insane to have Necros and Rogues doing hundreds of billions of damage in a day while Sorcs struggle to feel comfortable in T3 with the same time investment.

I loved how the entire season was going to be “a slower leveling experience” combined with “not many will play in T4” and here, on Day 2, we’ve got groups speed farming the top boss in T4. Blizzard couldn’t code their way INTO a wet paper bag let along out of one.

The excuse “it gets better after XXXXX” has always been fanboi copium and not a valid defense. Getting a sorcerer to 50+ is in itself not fun. It was last season, it isn’t this one.
