S7 Review: A Good Start, but

Still got a long way to go before D4 even approaches PoE 2’s quality.

But credit where it’s due, I am enjoying the seasonal plot, the Whisper Zones are somehow crazier and better than the vampire ones were and same with the Witchcraft.

There’s nothing really new or groundbreaking here, but at least it’s fun and it works. I am especially happy with how ridiculously strong Shadow Clone is after being a meme for well over a year, and might even try making a few alts at some point.

You’re gonna have to raise the bar quite a bit going forward, but at the very least I would safely call S7 a W and just try not to backslide guys.

I played for about 45 minutes and had to stop and ask myself, why? Then I popped in a couple of streams to see the usual suspects already spam farming ubers and I was like yeah, not for me.

While S2 and S2 redux that we have here is the most fun of D4 seasonal mechanics…the fact that’s all they could come up with while adding zero new end-game content just feels so half-hearted and lazy.

But to each their own, have fun blasting fellas. Hopefully by next expansion they will have had some meaningful system changes.

PoE 2 quality is a highly subjective term.

Yes. It’s a really fun season. The new zone is dense and really cool. So I’d like a good end game and not destroy everything in T4 with one click. Let’s see how it goes.

I’m happy a lot of people are enjoying it, at least.

What would that be? Honest question.

New zone has bonkers amount of enemies so A+ on that.

I dint even realize mercs were back until level 40 or so and forgot about pet until about level 25. Oopsie. I need to git gud.

Yeah somehow it’s even more chaotic than the vampire zones were.

I’ve seen multiple headless get chained together and it’s complete insanity and I love it.

EDIT: Helltide still boring AF especially compared to the new activity, and NMDs are even worse sad they weren’t touched…

The new dungeons with the choices gives me hope that they finally learned from Hordes and will tidy up that mode soon as well.

Can we please have Helltide go back to how it was in S4 with crazy density, lots of orbs and a Blood Maiden that doesn’t take forever and a day to kill ?

I’d definitely give this season an 8/10.

The changes to the game are very welcome (although obviously if you play a class that got nerfed you might feel differently, that’s okay). I love the expansion of the Tree of Whispers hub, turning it into an actual hub instead of a place with just a few NPCs that provide some services but not all.

I get Season 2 vibes from it, but better. The reputation grind is very forgiving compared to Season 6. With Season 6, I felt like even getting reputation was a slog, and I’d often forget to use a Seething Opal, which meant I’d be losing reputation when doing a helltide or infernal compass. And on top of that? No boss slog like with the Realmwalkers.

Definitely enjoying myself more this time around.

The grind is actually fun this time, AND rewarding - getting so many whisper caches feels like it should just be a permanent change (it’s actually what I wanted them to do for Helltide basically)

Infinitely better than chasing the shortbus last season.

I think the other big takeaway is that this definitively proves that seasonal powers that do not require equipment slots are infinitely better and more enjoyable.

Like holy hell I forgot what a massive difference it makes basically having free modifiers. Also, to whomever decided to bring back percentage based Thorns - THANK YOU.

Definitely messing around with that later, probably on a Spirit Born.

Most definitely a welcome change. I was so disgusted with the Realmwalker that I simply stopped doing it.

Also, to whomever decided to bring back percentage based Thorns - THANK YOU.

I have an idea for a thorns build (albeit on another character). Been wanting to implement it since season 2 but never had the time to play an alt.

RIP Season of the shortbus, you won’t be missed (don’t ever do that again devs)

I feel like the game has become too easy, and S7 exemplifies this. In the end there is little point to playing when you’re grinding T4 mobs that provide no challenge, simply to get a piece of gear with one more point on it.

I miss the days of D2 when the starting play through was difficult and you had to earn your rewards. If there is no risk of dying then the reward of a good drop feels gifted and not earned. Personally, I don’t want everything handed to me.

I would like to see the Torment levels be even more difficulty based. Let T1 keep the gifted rewards (like the S7 drops) for players that want to smash demons for a while. Then ramp up the difficulty making T4 a risk of dying, no matter how your player is spec’d and how good your gear is. Perhaps base the T4 difficulty on previous seasons’ Tier S and A builds? I’d love to get back that excitement of completing a difficult task and receiving a well earned reward.

The casual state of the game is in a great spot, really its very enjoyable. The problem will be endgame. The only solace I can offer more hardcore players is to submit your best pit runs to helltides.dotcom

what is exactly POE2 quality?

Ive played it since launch, the only thing good of it is boss fight.

other than that, mapping is boring, currency is stupid, 1 button clear screen build is childish and dont get me started on the low QOL (no auto sort)

I spend more time in sorting inventory than playing the game.

Its 2025, why do I still need to play mix match puzzle in my bag???

How is the overall balance between classes?

Pretty good actually. Necro at this stage with no unforseen bugs coming through is the strongest class this season. Barb, druid and rogue also strong. Sorc will be the best farmer in t4 but suffer with high level pits. Spiritborn we will have to wait and see.

Honestly all this game needs is more build variation changes like they’re making and a more solid endgame that’s varied and fun. If it has even close to that old Blizzard charm to the quality of whatever endgame they add and feels appealing the game will be on the right track.

I won’t even care if they try to make raids the sole focus for a bit cause it’ll at least be something. And it’ll get more people talking too!

Also, at least in this game you can get the loot you want to drop.

S7 is definitely an improvement over the awfull S6

I think the game is in a good track, even when more things need to be done
