I asked someone to name a modern ARPG that had free respecs and you listed a bunch of old RPGs that didn’t have it, D3, and then 3 recent ones, two of which don’t have free respecs. But you’re right LA, a scummy pay to win game, does have free respecs.
You don’t know how easy or hard it is in D4 and your previous post made it sound like D4’s system was way more expensive than PoE. So it is cheaper and that is somehow scummy? What are you talking about?

It isn’t good for the game. It creates FOMO which people seem to think it is ok when the absolute immersion of the game is more powerful than FOMO ever could be.

Have I not been clear? Cost. D2’s cost was a low drop rate item you had to farm from multiple locations to make the respec item.
Pretty sure a troll is someone who claims they could totally be bigger than Asmon but doesn’t want to. Also that they make 150k plus doing consulting work that sounds like it would be rather difficult with a conpletely messed up hand

So 5 of these 8 have respec costs. And LA shouldnt exactly be on the list, it is not an A-RPG. D:I isn’t really one either. Making it more like 5 out of 6.
Then add Sacred 1 and 2. No respecs.
Torchlight 1 and 2. As far as I recall, no respecs (Maybe a respec cost was added later on), albeit you could cheat to do it, which obviously doesn’t count.
Titan Quest. Respec cost.
So 10 out of 11 got respec restrictions/cost, or 10 out of 13 if you want to include the non-ARPGs.
Yeah I’d be reasonably fine with that too. The respec currency should however not be tradeable.
D4 specifically has a low respec cost. Sadly. Should be much higher.

I’ve never heard of sacred and only played TL1 and I don’t think it had one, not 100% on it though.
LA and DI are ARPGs by design.
Of my 8… 4 have it and I’m not even counting POE and LE due to it being exceedingly easy and cheap to get to that respec going plus POE has POB to avoid even that.
So at the end of the day, 2 out of 8.

Having a respec cost in line with what PoE got would be fine.
Still, it is a respec cost.
Last Epoch has the best respec cost around. While I do think it is on the low side, it is the smartest implementation of a respec cost.
Did you play Diablo 1? It was book RNG, you found your skills… everyone has access to everything.
I still got 2 out of 8… I already stated I don’t even count LE due to super low cost… basically the equivalent of buying a bag of chips in the 90s, it’s child’s play and POE has POB and regret orbs are plentiful.
These are 3 out of 7 with respec costs.
and I don’t want that and will never say it’s good for the game because experimentation becoming limited due to it… unless D4 has it’s own POB that I don’t know of.

Even if PoE and Last Epoch have low respec costs, which relatively speaking, I can agree that they have, they do have respec costs.

Not allowing respecs IS a respec cost. The respec cost is creating a new character. So even in an absurd contrarian world that you might choose to live in, they count.

Do you mean it should be free to respec whenever or that respecs should not be allowed?
The only ARPG-ish games that allow free respecs are pay to win games like LA and D:I (and D3 at launch).

I don’t agree that LA is pay to win, it’s obnoxious… but there is nothing you can’t get in-game without spending a penny.
