PvP is confirmed, right?

So I’m participating in the beta, or about to. I googled around for early PvP theory building - found none. Googled if it’s going to be in the Open Beta, virtually no results. Now I’m wondering if it’s going to be in the final retail release. Someone enlighten me / clear up the posts I’m seeing online?

I heard they removed the PvP zone, only making it that those who voluntarily mark themselves for PvP are able to be attacked.
Pretty lame if it’s true.

Agreed. For a creation that tries so hard to be like it’s ultra successful predecessor, that would be odd.

Looks to be a thing as far as we know.
Problem is that on the balance we got it’s won’t be good.

No they didn’t remove it.
If you do anything in the pvp zone you’re automatically flagged for pvp and people in the zone are alerted to your precense.

You can run through it without being hassled, but you can’t do anything in it besides kill monsters. It’s not like people are going to go there and get their pvp currency and buy pvp gear without being flagged for pvp. It doesn’t work like that.

You can only turn off the flag in the town in the pvp zone. And people that do that are likely leaving the pvp zone.

But what’s the point of the PvP zone then ?
It would be good to have at least one single area in the world where we can kill anyone on sight. A hostile area. Anyone who enter there does it on their own risk.
Why have to enable PvP to be attackable in such zone ? At least make the players who enter there and don’t enable PvP on them be ported into different instance of the zone, to not be visible and interfere anyhow with those who want to PvP. Otherwise it will kill the immersion to see players running around in a damn PVP zone and not being able to attack them.

I’m really hoping for some Alterac Valley type of scene, where the pvp is absolute chaos and grand in scope. Forget trying to balance out every class, that never works!

So long as they keep PvP balance separate from PvE balance; I will be happy to let PvPers PvP without me.
I don’t want my skills ruined in PvE because of PvP, which is what Guild Wars 2 did for years. Engy over-performing in PvP? Nerf hammer! Now it sucks in PvE! :face_vomiting:

Also as long as nothing PvE related is is in the PvP zone/behinf forced flagging. I don’t feel like dodging gank squads trying to make ‘OMG! I totally bullied level 25’s as a level 50 for 4 hours! Watch this vid!’ youtube troll vids.

PvP can happily PvP without me, and I will happily PvE without them.

Based on the game balance in the beta, ranged classes will dominate PvP. I’d definitely prefer to avoid it as a barbarian.

The only reason melee builds were viable in D2 PvP was the Enigma runeword.

I heard that barb was totally OP because of thorns and massive damage reduction. Rogues were killing themselves trying to damage them.
But god knows how will thorns scale to endgame. They are pretty strong atm, given that most players attacks consists of high amount of smaller hits, each resulting in getting thorns damage.
Barb’s basic skill lunging strike can also close gaps pretty easily.

OP everything you are asking is easy to find online, I am confused how you could not find anything. You are hitting day 6 of the beta so your story seems fishy

I understand his question because for D3 they also promised PvP with arenas, was even drawn on the physical game copy box, and then scraped it.

there will be pvp zones in the open world, called fields of hatred x)

on a pvp zone you will farm shards of hatred, which can only be obtained through those zones. and to make use of the shards of hatred, one has to purify them at an altar in those zones. once purified they become Red Dust, which is PvP Currency. there will be pvp vendors in pvp zones, which offer pvp gear, mounts and transmogs in exchange for red dust x)

you become instantly pvp/hostile flagged once you’re in the process of purifying the shards of hatred into red dust at the altar. players will be noticed and hunt you down to take those shards from you. once the shards are turned to red dust, red dust can’t be stolen or lost upon death.

and as far as i know, pvp will only be possible in those pvp zones.

How will be those shards farmed ? Dropping from monsters ? Hope not.
Otherwise anyone can just turn off PvP, farm shards, then form a party and quicky change them to dusts, avoiding most of PvP while getting the PvP currency.
A forced PvP flag just for being in that zone is a must.

mainly from killing players but also from random events or pve in the zone. players that get killed drop their shards which can be taken by hostile players. killed players also leave their ear behind for the killer as a trophy, just like in diablo 2 x)

i agree but as far as i understand, in the end it will be quite like that. i think the altar might even be an event. the benefit of having pvp mode on is that u can obtain the shards also by killing players. those who have it off rely on farming it through pve only and are still forced to take part on the altar pvp

Yeah but I can imagine farming it from mindless monsters will be 100 times easier than killing a character controlled by another human.
Imo these should be only gained for killing other players or engaging in some pvp events, if they are pvp currency…
I understand that they will still have to engage in PvP to transform the currency, but this way they can avoid all the process of getting the untransformed currency, by reducing it to mindless mob farm instead of PvP.

cant wait to see how it’s gonna work for hardcore.

either they make pvp deaths not count or the fields will be completely empty aside from the occasional suicidal toon looking for an incentive to reroll lol

Would be pretty cool to have a tracker on how many enemy players you have killed on your hardcore character though. Even gaining some fearsome gladiator titles for it ^^
