PC performance issues

What is going on with the FPS? I have a Alienware M16R1 with a i7 13700hx, RTX 4070, 32GB of 4800mhz ram. I can run cyberpunk 2077 2560x1600 all max settings at 80 to 100 fps with no issues at all and I run Diablo 4 at 2560x1600 on all max settings locked at 120fps but it constantly stutters and drops to 50fps and the menus are so laggy you can’t hardly navigate them. Is anyone else having this issue? When I am in a dungeon it’s perfectly fine, 120fps consistently. It’s not my PC cause I run every game max settings and max resolution and it’s not my internet cause I am getting 980mbps hardwired to my laptop, Diablo 4 is the only game I am having an issue with. If I can run Cyberpunk 2077 perfectly fine then there is no reason to why I can’t run Diablo 4 smoothly. What is going on??

Have you rebooted since you last updated your video drivers? I get performance issues after every driver update if I forget to reboot.

I run at 1440p with a 4060 ti. More than 75hz and the game stutters. The game consumes all of your memory, no matter how much you have.

I have tried everything. I have updated everything. Changed every setting that I have read to change. It’s crazy. This is the only game that does this. Everything else plays max settings at 2560x1600 100+ fps but Diablo 4 is acting smooth crazy.

I have same issues with my game. I think it’s fairly common at the moment.
I’d be careful pushing the limits on anything from Alienware (Dell) though.

I created a custom resolution in my driver settings specifically so I could smoothly play D4 at 2560x1440@75hz.

These new laptops are fine. The older ones may not have been but the new M16 is amazing. My GPU temps never get over 60°c and the air coming out the back never gets hot. It’s something with Diablo 4 because I have 0 issues with every other game I play on it.

It seems to be a memory leak. I monitored vram on my 4070 Ti with afterburner and notice it was pulling over 12gb of vram. 4070 Ti is 12gb. 4k to 1080. Ultra to low. It didn’t matter results were all the same.

I’m playing on 4k 144hz with the RTX4080.
Everything is smooth for me with nvidia DLSS…

BUT, sometimes the game does randomly stutter

I finally gave in and started using DLSS2 on my GTX 1080 ti, and I play on High textures @ 1440p with no problems. Without DLSS2, there’s a lot of stuttering going on after a while. With Nvidia Reflex + Boost, something like DLSS2 or even Frame Gen (DLSS3) is pretty solid for making this game perform well while not incurring noticeable input latency. I have mine set to “Quality” for the best visuals possible while using DLSS2.

Oh yeah, of course, I agree with you there about it being D4 issue.
My pc does the same thing with FPS drops/stutters.

I was just making a final statement about Alienware. I, personally, would just be cautious of their products due to their history and wanted to share the warning as some newer pc gamers can be misled into purchasing sub-optimal hardware

Do what are you talking about lol. Then what do you recommend? I had a ROG Zephyrus before the M16R1 and you couldn’t literally set a pizza behind it and cook it cause it got so freaking hot. You telling people not to buy Alienware is not a good idea because their new laptops are very premium, If anything you are gonna steer them into a quality control nightmare that ROG is. Every laptop can have a lemon, even Razr’s have had bad units.

I didn’t direct anyone to purchase any one particular brand.
I’m sorry if my personal opinion offended you for your purchasing decisions. I was just giving, again, my personal opinion.
And you are right about lemon laptops, I previously had a ROG gaming laptop that would BSOD constantly; brand new purchased from ASUS’s retail store. I no longer purchase gaming laptops and stick with desktops. Again, sorry to upset you. Please, enjoy your Alienware laptop. I do find their design style attractive.

If you’re running ultra textures try to change it to high. You mentioned you’re running max settings, but ultra textures is probably going to poop on a 12GB card. It’s difficult to tell how much vRAM the game uses on different settings because it allocates the majority of the card, but the texture packs definitely cause issues like you’re describing. The game isn’t causing a memory leak, that’s just how the game runs at high vRAM allocation. It’s not necessarily using all the vRAM but if you’re on ultra I can guarantee you it is

As for people discussing the laptop OP uses… alienwares desktops suck, Dell laptops suck, but their Alienware laptops are pretty damn nicely built. They’re some of the cleanest builds I’ve seen and last longer than any laptop I’ve ever purchased.

Yeah they are very clean looking and well built like a MacBook. I just don’t understand how I can run all these other games and not have a issue especially Cyberpunk 2077 and not have a single issue. Diablo 4 is nowhere near as graphical as Cyberpunk 2077 is and I run it at max settings with RT off at 2560x1600 at 80-90 fps consistently. When you look at that feat and then see Diablo 4 struggling it’s like maaaaaan I think something is wrong with Diablo 4 lol. It runs fine on my PS5 though. Hopefully they will have a stability update before Season 1 or have one included with it. I understand them prioritizing console optimization first though cause there are way more people on console than on PC but they can’t just leave PC in the dark with issues like this and not acknowledge it’s a issue. Like if I open a ticket they will say well do you meet the requirements and I’m like bro, I’m playing Cyberpunk maxed out, it’s not my PC lol it’s y’all’s game. I just wish they would at least let us know they are aware of the issue and working on fixing it.

I’m running an RTX 3050 Ti and an Intel i7-11800H @2.30GHz. 32GB ram.

However, I’m only running at 1920 x 1080 due to my screen size and eyes. The rest of the settings I let GeForce Experience set and almost everything is at High or Highest.

I’m running basically your specs except I have 64GB of 4800 ram. I’ve hit no problems.

The game has progressively been running worse and worse since launch.

I’ve actually been watching it using Afterburner OSD. Head Start up to the patch on the 8th, it used 40-55% GPU. Later I noted 70% then it wouldn’t go under 80% and now it’s often in 90% range. I still keep frames, it’s just eating more and more GPU.

It’s a fresh install of windows since I swapped M.2 drives so fresh drivers, registry, all that.

13600k, 64gb RAM, 3080 24gb, WD black sn850x. 3440x1440p capped at 100FPS.

I have the same problem, but the actual stuttering problem occurs when I phase other players during events or simply meet them in the open world outside of cities.

The worst offender so far is Helltides.

When many players are doingHelltides at the same time as me, the game sometimes freezes, and I have to force quit the game.

In Legions, my computer stutters when I first get to the Legion raid and the other players phase in.

I am on

i5-9400f
RTX 2060 16 GB RAM
Diablo 4 on a SSD

Not a supercomputer, but I have no problems with any other games in my game library.

Zero issues in Warhammer 40k: Darktide, which is my main game and notorious for running/optimized badly.

The stuttering/freezing in Diablo 4 have increased through the games patch cycles.

As it is, I will not play the game again until the problem is fixed and I was already underwhelmed by the games development “vision” anyway.

Won’t go into that part here though.

edit: Wanted to add that Diablo 4 runs progressively worse the longer it’s open.

ah I was wondering if I was the only one… kinda hard to enjoy the game when it stutters like crazy. I get DCed everytime I try to fast travel, it’s perfectly fine in dungeons but I try leaving a dungeon and get DCed. like you I got a powerful computer but this runs like garbage. Maybe I should just uninstall as what’s the point if the PC version is this terrible
