Pay to Win promise has been broken

Excellent point. And since I am not able to gain power IN the game, because I cannot START it, because I didn’t PAY, then it is a Pay2Win.

That said, it’s a minor one in this case and not one that bothers me if there are no more such instances.

?? You said a leaderboard is “winning”. There is no leaderboard for top people who get to HC 100.

There is a collection of people who qualify AND submitted their name via the Twitter entry. There is no ranking of who hit HC 100 first, second, third, with this contest.

You could be the 3000th person to hit HC 100 but if you are the 500th to submit your info, you would be on the statue if your entry is valid.

You’re just completely making up arbitrary rules and boundaries for what P2W is.

If I buy the game for $70 and don’t wait for a sale then I’m paying more money for Earlier Access to the game, and it’s actually a way more substantial advantage because this game likely won’t be on sale for a very long time.

So blizzard can’t even manage there own race to make it fair they are relying on you to post to Twitter so download that app and make an account. O forgot pay that extra cash to because per game reviewers u can be 100 before others get to even play but it’s not pay 2 win we promise

Is it early access though? The full game will release on 1st-2nd of June, depending on the timezone. Its not some early access version, its the gold version. Its literally the full release of the game that costs 90-100 bucks. People who buy it cheaper will have a 4 day later access to the game.

Yes, the top 100 people to complete getting to 100 and posting on twitter is not a leaderboard that tweets out to everyone following in the order it was achieved? This is not magically a leaderboard because its not in game? Are you kidding?

Let me toss a coin. Heads its a leaderboard, tails its a leaderboard. I don’t even have to look because its a leaderboard.

This is first a slap in the face because there is no in game leaderboard. Second, because it is ran on twitter which many don’t use, third it give a pay to win advantage to anyone that got premium packages.

It is a marketing event for people who want to engage in HC. It is promoting that game mode and encouraging people to play it.

They said there are no leaderboards in game and won’t be until at least Season 3.

This is not a race in-game so much as a race to submit to Twitter and qualify. Blizzard was pretty clear about that - you have to both hit level 100 HC AND submit for it.

I think people just kind of jumped the gun and assumed more about this opportunity than there was. I admit I had to sleep on it a few nights myself.

It is not hit HC 100 first. It is the first 1000 to submit to Twitter AND have hit HC 100. You also have to agree to let your name be used in promotions and stuff (like all their other contests).

I need coffee still and the kitties want to be fed. This is not quite what was assumed.

It is the first 1000, not 100. They never said they are listing them in order of who hits level 100 HC. They just said the first 1000 who submit an entry to the Twitter page and qualify. The contest does not require you to be in the first 1000 at all. Just be in the first who submit to Twitter. Consider that two races if you wish.

Again though, I suppose that is easy to overlook if people assume it is based on something most games have - a leaderboard.

Still why would you start this race before the official release? Not the early release? Still wouldn’t be far since early release would know where to start and how to fast track the xp. Should be started at season 1

This is what we call pay to play.

So now the leaderboard is on twitter, so much better. There is a lot not in game that should be. Its almost as if they were planning paid expansions like a console game.

Absurd. Its a race to 100 which is done in game and with people who purchased premium access getting the advantage.

You may need more coffee.

Yes, the contest should be in season one. There is more to it. Some people have played early beta and know exactly what to expect. Those people will have a massive advantage over cold players.

I think you need to think of it this way.

100$ version = play on release day

70$ version = discount bargain sale 4 days after real release.

Every other wording at this point is just a marketing ploy.

Jokes on you, they may be into that.

So, after reading the majority of the replies in this thread, it’s clear the vast amount know what real Pay 2 Win is.

Unfortunately some have their own agenda, which they’re trying to force onto others and instantly claiming they’re wrong/incorrect/irrelevant because they do not go in line what they that personally deem to be true.

So yes, this race happening during the early access is wrong. It should have been done when everyone was able to access the game. However, this doesn’t mean in any shape or form that this is a P2W scheme. I look it at as a raffle system at a party. You pay to get into the party (base price of the game) and then you pay for your raffle ticket (deluxe or ultimate edition).

The original creator of this thread, saying that the 1000 people who will win this contest, will kick start their career in gaming… if that’s something that they personally wish to believe and allows them to justify their hatred towards this concept, then let them. Does it mean they’re wrong, yes, does it mean they’re right, yes.

There will be the odd one or two who may benefit from this on Twitch, Kick, YouTube, Facebook or wherever they wish to stream their progress. However, just because they may or may not win a spot in the top 1,000 players, doesn’t mean they will gain instantly fame from it.

Twitch isn’t about who is the best at gaming. They need to have personality and something that draws in people to watch them. This is not Pay2Win, but Personality2Win.

At the end of the day, I agree with what some have said, that the people complaining about this contest, will never be anywhere near the top 1,000, hell not even in the top 100,000. This is because we can tell by the way they’re treating this topic, that they will not be nolifing the game. Maybe a few hours per day or even per week.

Now if in the future Blizzard decides to actually add proper P2W elements into Diablo 4, then I’ll be standing by those individuals to condemn Blizzard and hope for the downfall of Diablo 4. But this contest is nowhere near the spectrum of deception, that the 3 to 4 individuals in this thread are making it out to be.

The sooner we get to launch, then sooner this thread will disappear, but unfortunately these individuals, will continue to hang around in the forums to complain about every single issue, that they feel offended about.

Even though they’ll never enter the fields of hatred, I’m sure they’ll find something to complain about within PvP. They’ll probably complain that the paragon boards are too complicated and they demand that they been dumbed down, to allow them to avoid spending more than 10 seconds to decide what paragon skill to take.

While everyone else is having fun, they will find every possible opportunity to complain because they’re not actually having any form of enjoyment. It makes me wonder why they are part of the gaming community, as there are community in this world, which they would fit perfectly into.

A raffle ticket is pay to win, you realize this?

If I buy 1 raffle ticket and another persons buys the same raffle ticket, what advantage do I get over that person?

Do people outside the party, who do not want to be in said party, should they feel offended, that those people in the party, have the option to purchase a raffle ticket?

There is no ranking.

They know there should be leaderboards in game and will be rolling them out around Season 3. Yes, they also have plans for paid expansions. They have been open about that too. That is to be expected, honestly. People wanted leaderboards and many like seeing games get expansions and more content.

A better way to word this:

"Do you love Hardcore mode? Do you want to see your Battletag immortalized on the statue? Have you hit level 100 HC? "

  • The first 1000 people who meet these qualifications and submit an entry to Twitter will have their name inscribed onto a statue of Blizzard’s choice!
  • Submissions must include proof of Achievement, required image. Account must be in good standing, have not used automation, and the Battletag needs to not violate the naming rules.
  • Does not include a ranking of who hit HC 100 first or who submitted to the Twitter contest first.

Even Season 1 won’t have an actual leaderboard.

If I buy 6 xp boosts and you buy 6 xp boosts, what advantage do I have? Your logic seems sound. /S

You do understand that I agree with what you said earlier, that this contest should be held when everyone is able to play.

However, in my opinion, just like you have an opinion, buying a different version of a game, doesn’t mean the game is instantly P2W. People decided that they only wanted the standard version.

Do you think that those individuals, would have purchased the deluxe or ultimate version if this contest was mentioned prior to the ability to pre-purchase the game? Or do you think they would still buy the version they have now.

Do you think this thread would have still been created, prior to this contests announcement.

You’d think having their char name on the statue would make them perma #1 on the leaderboards for the rest of the game’s existence by how they’re going on about it.

Instead of, you know, doing absolutely nothing inside the game.
Maybe a title if Blizzard is feeling particularly generous.

Could it have been handled better? Sure.
Does it matter in the long run? Not at all~

The statue will be in the Blizzard HQ office, a few tweets will be made, a page on the D4 website.

People will look over it and that’s pretty much it.

If there was a title that they earned in game as well, then you know a few moment people will be losing their minds over that xD
