The art and graphics are very well done, the setting is a huge improvement on D3 which was a bit too cartoony.
The setting is very well done.
It is annoying that I can’t track all my active quests on the side and have to constantly open the map menu to start tracking my next quest. This just feels really clunky and tedious.
I do like the blue quests and how they add extra little bits of lore and back ground to the game (the exorcism one was a nice little storyline), I like that you can find some different ones as you explore the map.
I am dissapointed that the item/skill system is very similar to D3 as this was the biggest reason I didn’t really enjoy D3. I think there is too much emphasis put into the items you find for how you customise and build your character rather than the way you choose your skills. You don’t get to individually set your stat points so there is no customisation there, and there is little customisation in the skills.
I find this makes the game waaaaay too dependant on the random chance to get an item that suites your build, which can make it feel like your playing the slot machine to build your character the way you want rather than having more direct control. This is especially annoying as you are leveling a character so constantly changing out equipment - it makes the leveling feel more tedious as you can’t really design your character as you level, and only really get to design your character in the end game.
E.g. I like the extra charge on my dodge ability that items will randomly give me, but I can’t decide I like that ability and decide to always have it through a skill or direct customisation of my character - I have to hope one of my items that is useful drops the skill.
I would prefer more direct control on how I build my character.
It also makes it annoying in terms of needing to keep your stash full of equipment to specialise in different builds rather than being able to do that customisation through my skills and stat upgrades which doesn’t take up space!
The damage modifiers seem a bit too complicated? some of them aren’t well explained exactly what they do - what is over damage?
I don’t like that when I hover over an item in my inventory it doesn’t open up a side by side window with the item I have equiped so that I can compare the different stats on it directly rather than just the armour/damage difference. It just makes it more tedious to compare new items.
With the wardrobe modifications, it would be nice if I had a toggle out on the field to have my modification on or off so that when I pick up new equipment I can see how it looks without going all the way back to my wardrobe.
The emotes thing is weird and I don’t really like it being implemented in quests it feels really forced and just odd.
Some of the side quest dungeon things are a little bit too big and end up being kinda tedious, it would be more fun if they were a bit smaller with the focus being on a challenging mini boss fight at the end to clear them. Maybe 30% smaller would make them much better.
Overall it isn’t bad - feels a bit like a re-imagining of D3 as it feels like allot of the in game mechanics are recycled with a better setting and graphics. I do really wish they didn’t keep such a strong focus on the items as being the only real way to customise your character though… As this was my biggest dislike of D3 and something I wish they moved away from more.
Spoiler? idk
When the black dog brings you through the portals and you go through Tristram it would be cool if there were more easter eggs in there, or even like the old Tristram theme song playing.
