Only 4 skills + LeftClick / RightClick in 2023

If 6 is enough for you, don’t use more? Not sure why you gotta put that on others that would prefer more options to use the skills they bought.

This, very much. 20 charachters

They solved that in D2R with a button modifier that essentially gave you a second action bar of abilities. Not sure why they didn’t use that for D4.

More skill buttons means less build diversity and less meaningful choice.

D4 is returning the RPG to ARPG. Too many people think Diablo is supposed to be a free-for-all sandbox arcade game like D3 is. Sadge.

It actualy means opposite :joy:.

You’re free to argue that water isn’t wet, but you’re going to look awfully stupid while you do it.

I wonder how other ARPGs manage to have more than 6 skill slots. Jeez. It must be so hard and they must have more money than Blizzard…oh wait…

All these people who want more abilities must have been playing a different beta than I was.

I played a burn sorc, and I couldnt even manage to work in a core ability. You just don’t have enough resources available.

Between blizzard, inferno, hydras, firewall, and flame shield, there simply isn’t any mana left over for anything else. And when I do get my mana back, I want to put my hydras back down and chill the mobs again with blizzard so I can burn them with more firewalls.

Six abilities is plenty.

So go play them, instead of throwing a temper-tantrum and looking like an idiot.

The skill limitation is an intentional design choice for a more meaningful RPG aspect and more unique builds. If you don’t like it, there are plenty of games for you. Most people appreciate it. Pretending like it’s because Blizzard is poor or incompetent is just stupid.

‘more unique builds’ - you mean one trick pony builds where you do the same thing 10 times in pvp? Yeah that’s meaningful. You make no sense.

only after a certain point. I’ve thought a lot and tested a lot. There are 2 inverse curves:

  • Number of slots
  • Skill permutations vs total permutations

On one end of the extreme, if you only had, say 2 slots, you can have a lot of short term build identity with no synergy, but on the other extreme if you had as many slots as skills, your build will only be defined by your skill point assignments and passives.
Somewhere in the middle is where they should meet, where the design philosophy is to have as little as possible and still allow a varied build with synergies.

Even on 7 slots you will have to makes “hard choices”, sacrifice either DPS/Mobility/Utility and in most cases be unable to have general redundancy.
6 Slots, according to all the skills available and their category types, demands more often than not 7 instead of 6 skills (assuming Ult is taken).

I wouldn’t like to have a ult-only button, as a 7th, but that is better than the current layout which often forces you to sacrifice Fun vs Effectiveness- often in the form of being immobile, lacking in DPS, or susceptible to CC if you build isn’t anti-CC-centric already.

You can’t just say: “We should have fewer slots to have build diversity”. You need to say at what point is the threshold of degrading diversity? Is it 5, 6, or 7?
I believe that it is between 6 and 7 and the new long CD ults that are very hard to give up are the tipping factor. I say 7 is more valuable. Especially since from the time of trying the builds out you could access the skill quickmenu.

You are not substantiating your argument by hand of example.

6 skills is fine, worked for many years and will work for many more.

Yeah, it might work, but not be ideal.
If that’s the reasoning you fall back on, then we can say: Ah, we could map more skills in D2, and that is many years older, let’s do that. Clearly that helps no one, so evaluate the case my its own merits.

It’s an ARPG?

Have you ever played an ARPG?

Again, it’s truly surprising exactly how bad the threads on this forum are.

Have you? Lost ark got way more

…ARPG

Like jfc, this is what I’m talking about - this forum instantly became a moronic cesspool.

I wouldn’t mind one or two more slots it would make skillsets more flexible and for me personally it would make the combat more enjoyable. I hope they consider it.

We have enough buttons. I have yet to see an even slightly compelling reason for why this change needs to happen.

6 is perfect to me.

My dear gentlemen//gentlegirls. This girly finds it quite refreshing to read other peoples opinions… Occasionally it broadens my overall vision of things or thinking from other another ones perspectives about certain things.

Do not get frustrated by another ones opinion, bickering or insults. If you spend energy on something negative, you are feeding those thoughts. It is like throwing oil on fire in a sense as in how our thoughtflows work in the brain.

Also, opinions are just… opinions you know… some people like to be limited to only 6 buttons… and some don’t like it… Like me… yes! if have an opinion too yknow! i always hated it in D3 and continue to hate it, it felt really limited… Whatever other people opinions are :D. Just let me have mine!. Please do not throw me in Jail for my own thoughts! Im just some random Diablo loving gamer too youknow! I’m sorry!!!)

Can’t we make polls on this forum? ive no clue tbh
