Then 7 can be enough too. Or is 5 enough for you? Because if it is, by what reasoning?
As pointed out many times in the thread; the LMB/RMB builder+spender combo of basic and core abilities are virtually enforced. Then if you go ult (which is hard to pass up on for DPS), then you have 3 slots for flesh out a build which will likely include mobility, utility and possibly spammable nukes.
At some point, if you have too few slots, you sacrifice effectiveness for fun. It is more fun to be able to meet more challenges head on with the tool needed, and still NOT be a swiss army knife that can do everything.
But at what point is that? 5, 6, 7?
Without an ult, it seems to be 6. With an ult it needs 7, based on the ability categories and amount of utility equipable.
Without that 1 extra slot, builds become boring fast when you canāt spice them up by breaking up the rotation that heavily start to be identified by the builder/spender combo.
Having 2 auto attacks, a long CD ult and 3 slots really means the 3 slots grant you mix up
Ive been pondering about this a lot as wellā¦ Sadly im not the youngest anymore but I am not a greybeard either orso. Anywayā¦
I bet blizzard has been twisted around this choiceā¦ At least I hope they have beenā¦ I reallyā¦ really would like some dev feedback on the choice with an in-depth explanation and examples why another choice would not have worked out that well for the gameā¦ I have been searching for this a while now butā¦ i am still missing the core of the explanation as in why they have chosen this way of things.
actuallyā¦ i think it is even more limitted than thatā¦ generally you would want to use skills that bolster either your defense enough to surviveā¦ and or bolster your dps or crowd controlā¦ mobility skills are the first to go. just look at D3 builds overallā¦
The āfun skillsā are the first to goā¦ which makes the gameā¦ fun! ā¦
Some have assumed itās to make it console-friendly.
Some assume itās the ideal number based on some arbitrary reasoning they donāt let us in on.
In practice, to many, it seems that 6 is just 1 short.
Put that under utility, in the vein of buffs and debuffs.
But yes, I found myself dropping abilities like āIron Skinā or even Warcry as a steroid, just so that I could have something more fun. In a 2H Bash/Rend attack speed build I ended up taking skills like Charge which is both mobility, and can corral mobs for the Rend AOE.
This gets boring faster if you cannot breakup the regular combo rotation with some non-Ult, non-AA skills (this is relevant since all the Barb shouts, for example will almost always feature in any build, but they offer little dynamism). It becomes familiar fast and you canāt add more skill shots to your build, more repositioning tools, more CC-breaks that end up leaving you stranded, immobile and feeling frustrated = unfun.
Trading fun for meta is boring, an you can still have 7 slots and all the factors of build diversity, identity and āhard choicesā
Are you okay? Lost ark is an ARPG and an MMO, which you may not be aware of, Diablo is trying to be as well currently. Try to read with your mind unclouded by hate.
It is more strangulating than meaningful right now with the skills currently in the game. Just by opening up on slot it would feel way more fun and interesting instead of just using the same basic stuff over and over since things are so inflexible.
I want to make a necro summoner build. Decompose (left click, blight (right click) then i want raise skeleton (button 1), corpse explosion (button 2), blood mist (button 3), golem (button 4) and then where do i put my ultimate āarmy of the deadā
So you can see the build is logical, i need to heal my skeles, taunt with golem, corpse explosion, blood mist to avoid been hit sometimes and my ultimateā¦you guys tell me, is it an ilogical build? whats should i sacrifice and why should i?
Most 6-slot proponents are going to tell you sacrifice the ult (standard reply) or your āconvenience pickā = bloodmist.
See, the 7-slot build didnāt lose much identity from the 6-slot variant, did it?
However, the 6-slot gets boring faster. In some cases rapidly.
At this point itās impossible for Blizzard to change this before launch and the rebalancing would require too much testing and manhours.
We could perhaps hope for some discussion or testing for later seasons.
i wouldnāt say that 6 buttons gets boring faster as it in the mind of the beholder.
i think the spec your playing has WAY more to do with if its boring or notā¦ and in full honesty 1 button difference wouldnāt change the playstyle that much to make it a huge impact
OH, seems like 7 skill slots is not such a big deal, maybe we can get it someday then.
1 button is a big change for your combat rotation in terms of bringing on 1 single dynamic skill more, like adding charge to a 3-shout build. Try going without a mobility skill, then include it and feel the difference
Based on Blizzardās philosphy and the massive outcry of having a āforcedā ultimate button, itās more likely that we will get no change, or a 7th open slot well before a dedicated ult button.
Just 4 more days then we see if Blizzard shuts this down at the next interview
