I built my rogue using the best, recommended build guides. As best I know, I am using the best items that have dropped for me. Things have worked very well
until now. I was doing really acceptable damage and able to play very well until now. When I reached level 50, and Tier 3 all of a sudden my rogue is almost unplayable. The damage in nightmare level is too much, my damage is nowhere near enough anymore, I have to work frantically to even survive a single sizable mob wandering across the countryside.
I’ve talked to a few very high end rogues, level 80 and up, who have taken a look at my build and equipment and said that their only recommendation is to have a high level friend take me into nightmare dungeons where better equipment will drop so that it improves my rogues playability. This issue there is that virtually everyone at a high level has gone on to the new season and aren’t available to me.
Any suggestions on what I can do would be greatly appreciated. I don’t have a ton of time to play, and I have spent everything available building this rogue. I would really like to be able to continue to play it.
Well, yeah, you went up in difficulty, so yeah, the game got harder! That’s expected! As a rogue, you are used to blaze through things like hot knife in butter, but that will happen every time you change to a higher WT. Once you get Sacred gear, adjust your aspects, find better hearts (heart level goes up per WT), you will once again blaze through everything… until you go to WT4. Then, the cycle repeats. That’s normal, it’s how the game works.
I appreciate your thoughts. But I literally can barely even survive a single mob when going through the territory trying to get to an area. I would say I only even manage to stay alive 60% of the time. And I am transporting back to town to refill my potions after every single encounter. You can’t play like that?
Yeah idk man. I took an entire day to change all my gear to penetrating shot and it was painful but I have read some people have had good experiences with it. I really wanted to do a ranged build but so far melee has been the only viable option for me. And I have quite a bit of unique bows and good aspects etc
I understand. I based my build on all the best recommended penetrating shot builds, which many people said could do huge damage in the endgame.
And I am definitely not a melee guy when playing a rogue. Ranged attacks are what I have fun with. If I wanted to melee, I would have built a barbarian.
Yeah I really wanted a ranged rogue, I agree barb should be the melee king. I was going to make a barb alt but I knew the nerf hammer was coming soon so I’m glad I stuck with the rogue. I’ve seen some late game ranged rogues on YouTube etc, and the damage looks decent but the gameplay looks like a snore fest. You end up having to kite a single mob at a time in high NMD
From my experience pen shot wasn’t that great until I got all the working parts and even then it wasn’t much fun when I was solo. None of the ranged builds were. In a group it was awesome but when mobs are always gunning for you it was an exercise in frustration. If you are a solo play I would consider sticking with a melee build until you have amassed all the parts to make ranged builds run smoothly.
This is what happens when you listen to content creators and follow their builds. Rogues are not the OP god tier class that they have been saying it is. THe majority of content creators who make tier lists and state rogue as the best class, are barb/necro/druid mains. And are just wanting to get their favourite class buffed. And yes this sounds petty but there is no other explanation.
You will find out the hard way that the majority of rogues can only clear high tier content by out-playing the content. So Instead of just equipping the right gear with fortify and facerolling through enemies (ie what the barb/necro/druid can do).
Your’e going to need to CC mobs, knock them down with traps, poison them to buff dmg reduction with poison, kite them, freeze them… whatever. Basically anything besides standing there and taking hits.
if you dont’ want to do all of this you will be stuck farming equal leveled enemies who wont instagib the rogue with every other attack.
No, not seasonal. Its the one I have been building, in my available time, for the past 4-5 weeks.
Sounds like I literally need to start all over with building a barbarian from scratch, just to be able to stay alive. And I had really been enjoying playing ranged, at least until I hit tier 3. Now, another four to five weeks of work before I have a viable character. Not at all what I wanted.
Thanks to everyone for your input. It seems that ranged rogues were doomed from the start and no one, not even those major sites proposing the penetrating arrow build, were honest about it.
True. But at the moment the game provides no benefit from doing higher level NMD besides glyph xp, which is easy to get from mid tier NMD.
That’s my main problem with this game, should be better drops from harder content, any blizzard game I’ve played follows this design. Somehow they forgot this. Might as well farm norms
I cant help without knowing what your running are you able to make a planner? If you make a complete planner I will provide some advice and for clarity I have cleared NMD T100 both pre season and in seasons already as well as Echo of Lilith.
Check out the TB blades end game build on max roll.
I suspect beyond a build issue (since really most builds will work at lvl 50) you are missing some key aspects that are avalible on the codex.
The ones not in the codex, momentum aspect (stolen vigor) or the heal per second for each nearby enemy should be good enough to keep you alive at the current difficulty. That plus disobedience and/or the barrier for damaging elites will make you practically untouchable at WT3.
Finally, if you are currently dying, don’t fall for the cute/fun aspects. Especially the ones that need to combo with each other that gobble up 2 aspect slots.
Dkoi - I’m assuming that a planner would be a complete listing of what I have put points into for this build? It might also require you to inspect my currently used equipment, which can only be really done, in game, but we could certainly arrange an “inspection” so you could see. I can put something together, as far as the build, but it will take some significant effort. I greatly appreciate that you have such vast experience and have achieved so much with a rogue. Look for a response from me on Thursday. Tomorrow is a 12-14 hour work day, plus commute, etc. No time for anything but work, a meal, and sleeping.
I greatly appreciate the assistance. I’ll respond as soon as I can.
I’ve had this problem too. I made a build based on Rapid Fire.
The problem is starting Difficulty 3, you have the Protection Aura mobs in almost every pack, and if said mob happens to be in the middle of the clump, I basically can’t kill it since Rapid Fire has no real pierce. Shadow Infusion needs something to die for damage to happen.
So I have to either kill through the ridiculous damage reduction, or run around till the group loosens up enough to squeak a shot in to the Aura mob, or try to dive into the middle of the group and shoot the mob point blank while spamming potions.
Honestly it’s pretty horrible design. As it stands, the Rapid Fire core skill is essentially unusable starting world tier 3 because of this, unless I missed some way to give it some pierce power. So far all I found is an effect that makes it scatter a very minimal amount of damage randomly past the target. Meh
Just keep at it. I went to WT4 and noped back to 3 like a coward. It got boring, so I went back to WT4 I ran away, a lot. But after maybe 30 minutes of that I replaced 2 items. Just try again friend! You can do it.
