Necromancer feedback

The fantasy was really hit on the head with necro. It feels in line with previous iterations without being samey.

The generator skills feel diverse and interesting. Bone splinters are really cool and reap looks + feels awesome. Decompose is a good option for pet builds and hemorrhage seems cool for blood builds (which I admit I haven’t played much with so far)

Minions feel like a meaningful part of the gameplay loop which is cool. They can deal real damage and aren’t too much of a hassle to manage.

Core skills are cool. I like all of them, but I think bone spear feels not really in line with other bone abilities. Bone abilities and associated passives have a big focus on basically keeping your essence full and setting up a powerful bone spirit, and I don’t see how bone spear fits into that.

Macabre skills could use work I feel. While bone prison is interesting. It’s basically exclusively used to apply vulnerable en masse and group enemies, which corpse tendrils can also do. Blood mist should probably heal more or not reduce movement speed I think. It’s a solid defensive but I personally don’t like the feel of it. Bone spirit is solid design I think.

Corpse skills are pretty cool. But I think maybe they should have another option. For minion builds especially, corpses pile up and there’s not much you can do with them other than manually spam skeletal priests. I wish I could do more with corpses outside a corpse explosion build.

Curses are done well, I think. Iron maiden especially is super awesome. Decrepify feels like a solid option, but I think it would be better if it cost less essence. It’s hard to justify 10% of your resource pool just for slow + damage reduction I think. if it cost like 5 essence it would be cool.

A few things the class feels like it is missing:

  • Necro should really get blood Rush back I think. It lacks other mobility and this would be a cool option for macabre skills
  • Melee builds feel a bit too squishy. It’s lacking the defensives like bone armor that made scythe builds workable in previous games. It might be worth just buffing the damage reduction from reap from 15 to 30%, but make it only apply to nearby enemies maybe.
  • I wish I had a way to command my pets to focus a target. Sometimes an enemy will attack me and my pets ignore it.
  • Finally, I wonder if the raise skeleton button should have a bind unique to necro. It forces any pet build to give up a slot on the bar which sucks and makes it harder to fit utility like bone prison or decrepify or golem.
