I thought that Core Skills were those that spoke off of the “Core” tree hub. So Ice Shards, Chain Lightning, etc. And I have Helm of Perdition with +4 Core skills so I assumed that those would be the only skills boosted by that affix.
But no, Blizzard, which is off the Mastery hub, also goes up by 4. Yet Blizzard is not listed as a “Core” skill in any game guide I can read.
About the only thing I can see is that when I hover over Blizzard, the tags that appear above it are “Mastery” (as expected – and with a green background), “Frost” and “Core” (both with a grey background).
So what does “Core” mean? Why does Blizzard boost this helm?
Been a while since i played a sorc.do I don’t recall if they have this but many classes have items that will make other skills count as core. Perhaps you have one of those?
@pmulgrew: Perhaps but I have not see any affix description on any item of mine that would suggest it has that effect.
And when I remove all items but the helm, the effect is the same
@melos: Sounds like this is some official, reclassification thing. Is there a discussion of it anywhere from Blizzard online?
It was changed in 1.4.0 and is in patchnotes:
-
- Skill tags have been updated everywhere to allow more Aspects and other effects to affect more skills and abilities. Examples:
- Applicable “Shout” skills for Druid and Barbarian are now tagged as Shouts.
- New Chain tag for abilities like Chain Lightning and Rabies.
- New Mobility tag for abilities that move and or teleport the player, such as Caltrops or Teleport.
- More skills are now tagged as Core skills, such as Sorcerer Mastery Skills and other skills which use resources like Bone Spirit.
- Additionally, various Aspects have been updated to account for these changes.*
I see Core tag on Blizzard skill ingame or in Maxroll planner.

They made Mastery skills, Core skills also I think in season 5 or s4.
Just hover over all your mastery skills, you will see they have the Core Tag also.
