I fixed this issue by disconnecting my external SSD drive.
You ever get a working fix for this iv had the same problem last night and still this morning. Try all of the ideas to fix it iv seen on the forums without any luck, sux that im going to miss out on getting the mount not cuz i can’t kill the boss but that i can launch the game
try borderless windowed instead of windowed
Just an FYI it’s not a mount you get. Just a trophy to put on a mount. So it’s not a SUPER big deal if you can’t get in this weekend.
But hoping the problem will be solved before launch is a big deal.

After many try and error, by unplug “Xbox 360 Controller for Windows” before start the game help for my case.
I guess threads got merged? This is confusing.
I tried rolling back GPU drivers, still nada. I tried putting chroma effects to 1, nada. I’m already on borderless. I don’t have a wired xbox controller (Bluetooth, and Bluetooth is off).

I tried “spam LMB real fast” and I do get further but I still get locked up at some point. No error message, most of the time no “Program not responding,” but very definitely entirely locked up.
I am having the same issue. I was only able to log in twice last night, once at 4 PM est just about and 7 PM est. Tried to log in for world boss today at 12 est and I couldn’t get past the DIABLO or DIABLO IV splash screen. Sometimes it freezes at DIABLO without showing the IV, sometimes it freezes at the IV.
I even left it to “load” on the frozen screen for 30+ minutes while eating lunch today, nothing.
No bitdefender, microsoft security is OFF as well, no firewall issues.

Intel 8th gen i5
I’m not picking this up on release if this is the state of the game so close to release.
Edit: Spamming mouse click gets me to “Logging into diablo IV” and my friends see me log in but my screen never changes from that prompt.

Exact same issue as mine then. Its weird. I got so excited when I sat down at my PC today because it actually moved past it… only to freeze at a later spot, and start doing the cycle over again.
The fact that this is happening at varying rates and some people can sometimes get past it, think they fixed it, and then only find out they didn’t fix it seems to imply that its something on Blizz’s end, somewhere. Can’t tell you if its in the code, the servers, the network, what.

This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard, why don’t you have the game connection/client time out after 2-3 minutes, not 15 minutes.
You’re basically saying if it doesn’t log in first try, you have to wait 15 minutes to try and start the game??
What fixed it for me:
- delete LocalPrefs.txt located in “C:\Users\WINDOWS_USERNAME\Documents\Diablo IV”
- Remove Razer Synapse 3
- Update Graphic Driver
- Remove Folder Compression on the Diablo 4 Game Folder. (This one helped against grey screen at Loading).
Now it starts instant, the Folder Compression was the MVP Solution.
Just checked the Chroma setting in
“C:\Users[…]\Documents\Diablo IV\LocalPrefs.txt” → DisableChromaEffects “1”
and it instantly worked fine for me, before I wasnt able to play since today morning.
Just updated GPU driver, don’t have synapse, deleted localprefs, did not have folder compression turned on to begin with. I did turn off indexing just to see if it helped though

I went in and tried to check compression and none of my folders were compressed. But while in there, I unchecked indexing and it works!
Edit: Just got refresh and saw the same for Setari. I think we did it, I think we solved the gray screen!

where did you uncheck indexing?
Right Click on the game folder, then Click on Properties. Under the General tab, uncheck the box next to “Allow files on this drive to have context indexed” and click on the OK button.

Same issue. Disabling indexing does nothing for me.
The game either freezes on a gray screen right at launch, or the game loads and freezes at the “Logging into Diablo IV …” screen.
The game process sits 0.0-0.5% CPU usage and 0% disk usage.

i’ve got a 4080 and a 7700x, i dont think its a hardware issue because i’ve seen such a large variance on what everyone’s got but we all have the same issue.
but i do also have win 11

Had the same issue. I’ve disabled some apps and it’s worked 3 times in the row.
Apps i have disabled:
-All Razer apps
-Lively wallpaper
-Logitech hub
