I’m pretty sure the majority of the playerbase would have sided with Momma Lillith.
Yes she was kinda ruthless and didn’t really care about single individuals and was kinda sadistic.
But the so called angels are much worse. And she just wanted to overthrow hell’s ruling and end the Eternal Conflict. What’s wrong with that? She even wanted to hand over sanctuary to her children, the humans.
This has absolutely nothing to do with Inarius, and Lilith and the demons that came with her murdered hundreds of thousands of people. The main hero saw through her bs and ended her. There is nothing special about this demon. She is just a thief that stole Anu’s eye with Inarius and they used its stolen power to create humans in this fantasy world. Talk about power tripping over some creation that doesn’t even belong to you. The world of Sanctuary is literally Anu’s power.
Ehmm…the demons were already around in sanctuary.
Sanctuary is in generel a horrible place. There was no absolutely good ending for Sanctuary and humanity. Lillith was the least bad option.
The Nephalem killed all of them in Diablo 3. The world was somewhat peaceful for years until Elias got Lilith back into Sanctuary which brought hell with it. Almost all of the creatures you fight talk about how they are Lilith followers. I know there are also cults of the 3 primes as well which probably existed before she came into the world again.
The Nephalem killed the primes but not all demons. Since the worldstone gone, demons constantly flooded sanctuary. Elias only made things kinda worse but not by that much. Demons were around already and will always be. That’s the point of the Worldstone part of the lore.
And yes there are cults of the primes which goes back all the way till the sin war era. It is also heavily mentioned several times in this game. The Triune cult which was a religion and church plays a heavy role too. That’s also nothing new.
True. Lilith still deserved death though. If she wanted to actually help people coming out of her prison she did a bad job of it. She didn’t even care about Rathma dying either. Not a single tear or sorrow, just that it was his purpose to die so she could get the key to hell. She had a very dark agenda from the start and even manipulated Inarius as a succubus to create Sanctuary. I feel she was a bit of a mastermind and waited things out until she got her chance to take Daddy’s seat. You can’t trust something created from pure evil like that.
I mean, just look at what her Father did to Kurast. That was an absolute heartless massacre on levels never seen in Sanctuary before.
Well she is a demon and still she cared. Don’t expect every being of the universe to process pain and sadness the same way as humans do. She even confronted Inarius for the killing of her son. Inarius killed Rathma, not Lillith
But that’s also why i wrote in my earlier comment that she was kinda ruthless and didn’t care for single individuals that much. That’s why she didn’t care about the 3 people who needed to die for her to return or the people her followers killed. She cared about her children as a whole. In a big picture. Which is kinda understandable. If you are a huge animal lover and have 300 baby bunnies and 200 baby foxes and several other animals at home, as much as you love them as your children and you love animals, you wouldn’t hesitate to put one down to save the many. Maybe you would feel bad but it is a must.
Look at the whole picture and the possible key players and the possible outcome:
Angels (the good) : Always wanted to wipe out humanity. Tyrael the only thing standing in the way
Inarius (the father who should at least care): Wanted to murder all of humanity and even used and sacrificed everyone who followed him for selfish reasons
Prime evils: Wanted to alter humanity and erease their angelic side so they become demonic and to win the eternal conflict with them. Or they just straight up fed on humans
Lillith: Just wanted to overthrow the rules of hell and be the prime ruler of it and leave humanity the f** alone so they can live.
The last one is what she wanted you to believe. The hero saw through her lies in the scene where she traps him in his own hell. Let’s not forget what she did to that poor kid just so she could sit on Daddy’s throne too. That was one of the major reasons the hero went after her, ultimately killing her.
You personally fell for it hook, line, and sinker. Lilith is not the way to save Sanctuary. She would of took over the Lord of Hatred’s seat and became just as twisted as him, enslaving humans and changing them into demons to fight the high heavens. “Sin is your birthright” is not a holy thing to say. She literally made those people go into a cannibalistic-blood frenzy and murder that man in cold blood. Not to mention those lunatics were eating people too. Did you see the shed and the corpses? The force-feeding people her pedals before they killed them? How about when she and Elias were just standing their watching a dude being eaten by dogs for over 3 minutes? Plain and simple: Elias was an idiot that was deceived by a very powerful demoness. That’s all her doing and the entire thing was a ruse to fool you into believing she actually cared so she could get what she actually wanted.
But no, Lillith trapped you in “your own hell” because she still didn’t trusted you. Again, don’t forget, she is still a demon. Not an all good and naive being. And again i’m not denying that she isn’t bad. But if you have to choose who to support or to spare, it is a nobrainer to support Lillith. All other options are far worse. Dunno what the writers were thinking when they decided that an emotionally broken and naive and untrained wannabe magician little girl could do anything with or against Mephisto. Every decision at the end of the game was dumb beyond any level.
There is no “you fell for it”. The entire plot and all the motivations are crystal clear. You see or want to see too much behind it. And you forget she is the daughter of MEphisto and not Belial.
And yes “sin is your birtright”. She was right. Even i agree with that. Because it is. It is not a duty but a right.
I didn’t understand the story. Lilith may be a demon and may have killed some people. But she said she doesn’t want to rule Sanctuary. She said she wants you the protagonist to rule Sanctuary. She wanted give you the power to kick out the Angels and Demons from Sanctuary so we can live better lives. And then we killed her. The story wasn’t very immersive for me.
