Probably the biggest blunder in this game. There are a few others but none even come close to this in my mind.
This is the formula for ARPG’s, you fight, you get loot, you level up, you go fight harder stuff.
But in this game, it’s you fight, you get loot, and you fight things at random difficulties.
What do I mean by that? Sometimes the game makes it feel like no matter where you go that you’re gimped AF if lady RNG decides to screw you, then you get a few good item roles and you start smacking stuff to the shadow realm.
It’s really random and dumb. There is nowhere to grind power if you’ve fallen behind because of bad luck or perhaps you have the audacity to use a sub-optimal/meme build.
It should be if you are falling behind, you go back to another area, do some side quests, level up a bit (power up).
But in this game it’s just all pointless. Nothing makes sense. Everything you fight is the same. It’s really bad. The RPG in ARPG has been stripped out due to this one mechanic. There’s no point to your choices, you just endlessly run in random directions and fight stuff. It’s not good at all.
Should of been like World Tier 1 scales so you can play with your friends, everything else should of done the tested and true method of normal/nightmare/hell difficulties.
Very disappointing. Feels really lazy and not fun at all. Hopefully seasons in the future can somehow fix this garbage mechanic.
100% agree. The other thing that they forgot is in other Diablo games as you get towards the end, the monster difficulty ramps up dramatically and you geninually tell you are at the end. In D4 everything scales constantly and feels tough so that whole dramatic effect is gone. Fanbois can flame away, the scaling was a mistake in this game and there were much better altnernatives but the devs were either too rushed with lack of talent or under the gun to release.
I experienced some points in time where I definitely felt weaker when I leveled but more often than not I felt stronger, and come level 50 or so you look forward to consistently fighting things a higher level than you so it’s not a big deal.
That being said, the points where you feel weak should be addressed, but this is going to be hard because every class will experience this at different levels as they all hit power spikes at different intervals
Oh man, you should have been there for the start of D3 without level scaling. They screwed that game up so bad. I imagine they’d need to balance this game for eternity, since there are so many builds and combos. I wouldn’t expect it to be perfect, but at least it’s not unplayable like D3 was.
I did buy D3 on release and everything I thought was pretty good. I did not share the same experience as you did in the slightest regarding it not having scaling or have ever heard anyone say this before.
Because the difficulty in this game makes no sense and you can’t grind through it or power up your character as the game powers up with you making everything pointless and weird.
Also it’s not even like the game is hard, you just feel under powered. Like everything is taking way too long to kill.
A couple of things. One, do not be surprised if this thread suddenly disappears. Blizzard does not like repeat threads.
Two, monster scaling is being done to combat problems with previous Diablo titles. First is repeat the same content, in the same order. So, Play Your Way becomes a thing. Because of how the game is set up, I cannot quite start at the Dy Steppes. I can survive on the fringes because of monster scaling. Second is Power Leveling. Basically, until you get to level 50, you face monsters of your level and your friends face monsters of their level. Even after level 50, your friends get close to nothing out of WT1 and 2. Third, account buying. Basically, someone does not want to even put in the work for the character. With monster scaling, they are going to get trounced - at least while getting used to the skills - while trying to farm lower content.
The thing is blizz expects u to think. You leveled up upgrade your gear, upgrade your gems rings so many things can can help u then synergize your build better level scaling is perfectly fine just need to put some thought into your character instead of aimlessly running around
Do you also dislike this in D3 after they patched it to have level scaling? It’s a challenge, since you didn’t find good gear. Look for/create good gear and tweak your build.
In this game you don’t choose builds, gear drops randomly and you use what you get. In other games maybe I can grind for an item to boost my power level. In this game however you can’t because as your grinding for upgrades, you also are leveling up which is simultaneously weakening you.
There are no choices, only luck. It’s like you got good drops you feel like you’ve done good, but in reality it’s because you’ve gotten good drops. Your choices have very little to do with the game play.
Game is also not hard, just you feel under powered at times because you don’t get enough upgrades for your char.
They done the same scaling with wow when they so called made leveling longer with slog like mobs that took forever to die. When everyone quit leveling alts, they nerfed the scaling down to like ESO levels that they die far quicker.
Without Capstone Dungeons, there would be people trying to play on WT4 with a first character. People routinely start D3 seasons on Torment 5. So, give it time and you will be able to start higher.
There is a complaint about gear drops. Apparently, Level 70 Ashava is dropping gear you cannot access until Level 80. So, it does appear that gear drops need to be tweak. That stated, below Level 50, you are not supposed to see Legendary or higher gear without defeating The Butcher. You are supposed to use Aspects to upgrade your Yellow gear. So, “truly” powerful because of gear is not going to happen before Level 70 and that is not going to change soon.
I do not make skill choices based upon gear drops, video streamers, etc. and that does give me a lot of choices for builds. Yes, there are always going to be “better” builds but all builds will be viable. Once again, some may not be fast and easy but…
The problem isn’t monster scaling. It’s in the implementation. A level 1 char and a level 1 monster are roughly equal. However, a level 50 char and a level 50 monster are not because the level 50 char will like have an average item level of around 40. That’s the problem.
However! I beat the capstone and moved to tier III at 50, while geared as expected. Now, I’m finding higher level items, including sacred and unique. When I hit 70 and move to tier IV, I expect even better items. So, push forward! You’ll get there! In the meantime, all we can do is wait and see if they adjust the scaling.
That’s the whole point. What is the point of Tier 3 when you just go to it at level 50? Why not just have 1 tier? Everything scales to your level anyways. It’s not like I can grind at Tier 2 to get to Tier 3. It’s not possible because of level scaling.
So the tier system doesn’t even mean anything.
It’s like easy, easier, easiest, and role your face over your keyboard.
Those are the difficulties in this game. The tier system makes zero sense with level scaling. It’s not like you power up to move up tiers. It’s just weird.
