I wanted to like Lost Ark, I put in a couple hundred hours but it ended up feeling like a chore to me, in the end.
Combat was fun, that’s about it.
I play PoE every season for roughly a week, I hate doing the campaign over and over, there’s no reason for that. PoE is just littered with more currency types than mobile games, it’s absolutely disgusting but some people really love it.
Where’s the depth? There is none. The whole giant skill tree is just a bunch of meaningless false choices, and the only “builds” come down to do I want mana shield or do I want life leech.
It’s almost as if a person can enjoy a thing you don’t. The craziest part is some of us actually put a game down and walk away quietly when we don’t like it.
I have roughly 2200 hours in PoE, but I’ve been playing on and off since kiwi beta, each season they just inflate the game with more currency types and new mechanics that don’t really do anything new, it’s just flashier in a different way.
Do I still play it? Sure, I like playing builds I haven’t done before and the chat is just hilarious.
It’s extremely daunting and I feel like all they do is have stash/loot box/mtx sales. I just wish they would improve what they currently have. These are just my own wishes, though.
The game doesn’t have depth because all of the various skills function essentially the same and there are no meaningful choices. Playtime has nothing to do with that.
I played a ton of POE for years. I have no idea how many hours; it doesn’t track that.
I enjoyed the hell out of GD, but I do get the too many skills take. The game is the polar opposite of D4, in this regard, in the sense that both of them miss the happy middle ground.
GD has near infinite build variety, but if you dig in deep enough you quickly realize that 75% of those skills are basically garbage and you’re only making your playthrough harder if you use them.
I hope Grim Dawn 2 will have acceptable graphics, better combat, better story and some multiplayer. These are the areas where its lacking, mostly because budget reasons. But Itemization, Customization and Depth in general is way better than D4 and i wish Blizzard would have taken some notes.
This is a perception issue. Maybe your problem is that you’re so afraid of not playing a meta build that you’re required to play the exact same 2 things every time. You play HC so I don’t blame you, but that’s your problem, not the game.
In SC you could at least experiment, but I’ve seen enough PoE players who only copy builds to have an idea as to why you think the way you do.
Don’t even know why I’m defending PoE; feels like I’m just stating something incredibly obvious.
Again, perception issue…you’re taking your knowledge for granted and can’t see it any other way.
It’s fine though. Due to that experience, there’s no way anything I say will convince you otherwise.
Edit: scrolling up, I realized you took my comment on PoE’s depth and immediately assumed the only depth worth talking about was in skills and abilities.
PoE’s depth is also why it’s bloated. There are too many systems, but that’s depth that is fun if a game is very fun to play; it’s why I want combat like Lost Ark, but depth like PoE.
While there are no official seasons Grim Dawn does have community seasons through a mod. That’s one of the great decisions Crate made. There’s a lot of really high quality mods floating around for Grim Dawn.
Played Grim Dawn well before D4. The game just lacks in quality in many many areas, just my opinion. I don’t see the massive appeal other than it’s cheap. It’s really not that great of a game. Grim Dawn will have the same result just like as any other ARPG.
That’s why you say my playtime matters. Because you know that playtime means discovering that there’s no actual depth, whereas a new player might be tricked into thinking there is.
Grim dawn is pretty good but i get bored every time i get a character to level 70. The worst part of the game is the combat. Second worst part is the sound design.
One arpg ive been enjoying that i dont see mentioned often is Warhammer 40k Inquisitor Martyr
