My 3 friends who play with me and liked the story of the standard edition, told me that the story of vessel is bad.
The two streamers I follow also complained about story.
Is the story really that bad?
For me, the story of standard edition is mediocre below average, the outcome of Inarius and Lilith is unpalatable and would certainly generate problems in the short and long term.
Getting rid of Lilith and Inarius will force the story to make the protagonist deus ex machina like in diablo 3, which is terrible, no one can do a thing but protagonist can solve everything.
Even at the beginning of Vessel Iâve already saw a discrepant narrative problem.
I am a nephalem boosted with the blood of Lilith, I have destroyed countless demon lords, but for some reason I calmly watch a burnt knight threaten me and my friend ⌠and just do nothing about itâŚ
They are literally directly threatening me and saying they will hunt my friend⌠and i just do nothingâŚ
Standard edition outcome forced this situation to be like:
a) I destroy every single enemy because iâm a F god (bad for the story)
b) Iâm just dumb and do nothing even being a god (bad for the story)
Iâm just at Travincal, i hope iâm wrong, all my friends and streamers are wrong and the story is actually good.
Play through it yourself and come to your own conclusion. No one can tell you how you will personally feel about it. Would be like me saying Popeyes Chicken is amazing, but you hate fried food, so you think it sucks. Different strokes for different folks my dude.
I liked the vibe of the new Prava and the burnt Knight, but thatâs if I werenât going to consider the first game.
Both have interesting design and personality, but the first game doesnât allow me to take them seriously.
Iâm just at work, iâll finish the campaign ASAP to make my own conclusions,
The purpose of this post is to find out if the fact that my friends and streamers complain in the same way is a coincidence or if in fact everyone didnât like it.
Still going through it with the wife myself. We just entered the first zone and unlocked the first waypoint there. We have limited time to play at night, so itâll be a while before we finish the campaign.
I mean if you want to be spoiled there are plenty of videos out there I have no doubt. So far weâre enjoying it, itâs a very interesting start to the story, but weâll see how it progresses. Iâm not going to be swayed into believing itâs horrible before I fully play through it though.
Donât get me wrong, I may end up at the same conclusion, that itâs just a bad story, but Iâm keeping an open mind for now.
Did they ever explain why you, the main character, were going to the jungle and why you need to help people you could care less about in an apocalypse?
Some people may say buy it and try for yourself but if most people say its bad then its most likely bad. Especially if the people who are saying its bad, loved the base game story and are people you know personally.
Thats like someone liking popeyes 1 year ago and then popeyes changed their receipe and now the people who loved popeyes a year ago are saying its bad now, then its most likely bad. Doesnt mean you cant enjoy it but âbuyer bewareâ.
Iâm not a fan of the D4 story (base and VoH) but my biggest gripe about the story in VoH is its short. On the plus side, thatâs also a good thing because I just wanna get past through the campaign quick.
The cut scenes were unexpectedly great quality, and i really like some of the expansions music.
Story was terrible, but no worse than any other mmo/rpg. Theyâre always bad, but quality writing isnt why i play these games.
Now you wanna talk about other design features or bugs, thats a different tone, lol. The guys who coded sorc âfamiliarâ skill literally spoke to no one on the rest of the class design team (if there even is one) before copying through their code; so many bugs that were noticed by one casual player on the first run through the campaign missions isnt a great lvl of QA. I havent tried the new passive but i am not looking forward to sorting through that.
I guess i should clarify a bit: stories in games like this, i always end up bored. I just want to mess with combat mechanics, so im not target audience.
While I have had limited time to play and played a bit late last night. I really believe Spiritborn intro was a HUGE missed opportunity. They should have started on the border of Nahantu, and due to a prologued chance encounter with Neyrelle that established a vested interest in her well being and success with her goals, that should have sent the Spiritborn to previous zones to waylay any coming after her. Where they then fall quickly in sync with the main campaign.
Also, how are Spiritborn a wanderer that dealt with Lilith? In particular if you played the campaign in previous seasons or prior to expansion? We need to know why they werenât part of the story and only discovered at this point. It just does not fit. Very lazy story connection if any.
That said, this coming from someone not playing for the story. So I imagine it will be harder to digest for others that are playing for the story.
