Is D4 Still Viable, In A Meaningful Way, For Eternal Only Players?

I recently came back to D4 after a year away due to a number of things out of my control. I am playing Eternal, and thats essentially what I’ve always done. I’ve tried a season or two previously, but other than in rare cases, starting from scratch and building an entire new character bores me. I would rather be playing an existing high level eternal character in high end content.

In reading through many posts here in the forum, people seem to be of the opinion that eternal characters are no longer really viable in D4, that seasons are what everything is set up for.

Is it still possible to completely respec say, a level 60 eternal character, to an optimal new ultra high DPS build, and play varied high level content, continue to level and improve the character, and enjoy the game long term? ?

The answer(s) to this is extremely important to me, as they will determine whether I stay or leave. And right now, I really need the escape of a game of this type at the moment. And I see no other real alternatives. The ridiculously low drop rate for anything remotely of value in POE 2 completely rules it out, for me, at least, and that was about the only other option.

Your thoughts, experiences and advice are greatly valued.

Yes. That was always possible. The contention was whether or not the stuff you earned remained unaltered by the developers (such as making items legacy and the stat squishes).

This is a seasonal game. Yes, there is a campaign. Yes there is an eternal realm. But as the game has had changes since launch, the needs and concerns of players whom only play those modes have been ignored for the needs of seasonal play.

Early game is balanced around fast leveling for seasonal play. This has made campaign play an absolute joke.

Eternal has seen multiple patches completely obliterate items, turning down their power and setting them to legacy status. For Season 7, this shouldn’t happen, but whose to say 6 months later, a year later, that something similar doesn’t happen again. When they’ve made big changes for season play they’ve shown little to no regards for eternal play.

Eternal players want to play maybe a little slower, know that they can log in at any time and their character is still as they left it and they can just pick up where they were. Maybe the game is in a stable enough place that the big changes don’t happen again. But people aren’t happy with the game right now and there is now legit competition out there and those things may dictate that D4 needs to make another big change.

With how little regard they’ve had for eternal only players, I can’t sit here and tell you such a thing wouldnt effect eternal realm.

and the D4 developers appear to be continuing to alter equipment you have earned (when I came back, everything I owned was legacy and essentially useless). And then there have been the entire series of stat squishes.

Do you know what viable means? I am betting you dont.

Does D4 eternal was ever viable? Who played eternal? Season is always available, so what’s the point in playing eternal?

Eternal is always available to, what is your point?

No one liked how they did items.

OP:
Eternal is a place to play and can be fun. If you don’t like seasons or seasonal play then play it. Just know you will have some challenges here and there. Nothing says they can’t change eternal in the quest to make things better. Better is subjective.

Simple and short answer: worst then before…do not waste your time.

Yes, it’s available becasue it’s where season chars end theyr lifes.
That’s the point of eternal, nothing more.
Everything you do in eternal, you can do in seasonal…

That simply is not true.

Seasonal gimmicks aren’t available in eternal. It’s not one for one.

That’s because they’re called Seasonal available specific gimmicks content… so to be some meaning for seasons…
If seasons content were equal to eternal content, what would be the point to have seasons???
All the remainig content is available in season or eternal…

If you don’t mind missing out on seasonal gimmicks and can stomach the fact that the D4 team seems hellbent on wrecking our items every few months, yeah, it’s fine. You can take your time and play at your own rate, and eventually build up a staggering supply of mats.

For me I have no desire to play limited time modes, so eternal was always the default choice for me going in.

If items are wrecked in season, it will also be wrecked in eternal. No point in there.

Don’t get me wrong, i started playing D1 in “eternal”, and only started going seasonal in D3.
For me either way works, so i can’t find out all the fuss around eternal x seasonal…
D4 eternal is even worst, because it’s not like D3, where you have some interval between seasons, so you can enjoy eternal for a brief time between seasons…

The meaning of viable, from the Merriam Webster dictionary, and my comment was exactly as intended:

" capable of living, growing, developing, and succeeding

They’re not wrecked in season per se, because every season you start fresh and items don’t change within the season. Items in eternal that could be used across content patches are wrecked, though. Not sure what you’re trying to say here.

In my opinion and experience games like this take about 10 to 12 seasons to be stable and until they are stable they are not eternal viable.

This will never cease to make me laugh, this war between Eternal Realms and Seasonals Realms, like a GoT war between Houses.

Tbh, Eternal Realms is made to be the garbage can of the Seasonals Realms, when everything we made in seasonals go into the oblivion forever with 100x less power level.

Honestly, playing a seasonals game but staying in a realm where nothing appear except “balance”. I show some respect to these players who only play on ER because it’s really something impressive with the time.

“Ha ha” says the toxic fan helping to stoke the fires of that “war.”

What an absolute

I know it’s difficult to ear the truth, but Eternals Realms is where everything end in this game. Call me a clown if you want, but actually, you’re toxic more than you think in your word. You shoot your own feet without even know it.

It’s not me who “wrecked” gear. I was just pointing the dots…
