I'm at a point where the smarter choice would be to buy gold

I’m not going to buy gold, but because of the game’s design, in order for me to jump build and keep being unlucky with the rerolled stats when “enchanting”, it has made it so I either need to farm hundreds of millions of gold on my own, or buy gold from some “very nice people”.

This is a consequence of a horrible game design for intended gold income and intended spending.

Blizzard really needs to fix this, because while I’m a masochist at heart (jk), WoW (and other games) have proved that there are plenty of players who rather choose to buy their gold instead of farming it.

It’s pure insanity and off-putting to be playing a game like this, even though I want to like it. There’s just so much in the game that makes me not like it. Great job, Blizz.

The thing I don’t understand is that d3 is right there with free respecs, and though changing the stats on your gear is still expensive, I don’t recall it being so bad that any gold selling occurred.

It’s been a few years but I seem to recall never needing to try too hard to get gold in that game. I still broke down most of my items for mats and even then I don’t recall every feeling like I’d rather had the gold (like I do in this game).

I would hold off for now.
Save yourself some frustration and just work with what you have until Season 1. Just friendly advice. I stopped caring for the time being myself. Some rolls are stupid high rn.
Also:
The Occultist is bugged with certain items and affixes. They get stuck in ‘loops’.
If trying to roll some thing vs said loop = Paying double because they’ll always give 1 fixed Affix and 1 Random. Your random odds dropped by 50%.

Also - there’s no way that there won’t be changes to either 1. Our Gold/Materials income or 2. Prices.
Currently it’s far too grindy(in a system of GRIND this and that) especially for a “Blind Reroll” system where we’re not even sure what available options are.

…are you just taking 1 rare and rerolling it until it gets the exact roll you want?

I have pretty good gear and I haven’t paid over 1 mill for any single enchant.

Step 1: Find a couple of good rares for a slot, each with some of the affixes you’re looking for.
Step 2: enchant each of them a few times and pick the result you like the most.

If you need to farm hundreds of millions of gold at any point for items, you’re doing it wrong…

Step 1: get a potential upgrade crossbow that finally has a higher item level and 3 usable stats

Step 2: reroll the 4th stat so the crossbow it took weeks to find is finally an actual upgrade

Step 3: continually get the same rolls

Step 4: unaffordable.

Step 5: get a potential upgrade crossbow that finally has a higher item level and 3 usable stats…

The point is more about the underlying design causing this mess. Because while yeah sure, there’s not much time left of this specific patch, it’s going to happen to many players again and again, further down the line, and then there might not be a new big patch incoming to excuse not going for a new build at the moment.

I only said that in regards to S1 dropping and the patch coming.

I illustrated the problems in my post, as I see them. Trust me: I’m fed up with it myself!!

You clearly haven’t tried pushing t100, have you?

The smarter choice is not to buy gold, but to buy the yellow item you want so you don’t have to reroll. That way you don’t need gold for an uncertain result.

Buying gold in this game would be pointless, you would burn through it so fast and likely have nothing to show for it.

So you mean I shouldn’t be allowed the option to not have to sit on discord participating in bidding wars for crap?

Yeah, that’s great game design too.

Nope, was there a reason I should obsess over it during pre-season? I’m not a streamer, I don’t profit in any way from doing it without any seasonal buffs.

That isn’t what I meant at all. I’m just answering op topic title that say that the smarter choice is to buy gold. Which it isn’t.
Though the system is really bad right now.

Keep in mind, I never said “smartest”. Only that it’s smarter. Which it is.

This option should not even be possible unless implemented by the actual devs.

Block the 3rd party & gold sellers before it ever comes to this point

Maybe, as my primary language is not english, I tend to miss thoses precisions.

It’s technically not an option per se, Blizzard doesn’t allow it in their rules. But it happens anyway. And allowing trading makes it possible.

I just mentioned it because that’s what people feel drawn towards due to the horrible design.

Yeah I agree. They need to cap the cost of enchanting. Maybe 2 million per roll. Getting up to 5+ million per roll is silly.

More than silly, it’s currently the hardstop of every change of build. It’s detrimental to experimentation.

I think the cost of respecing is a bit higher than needed. That being said I’ve respecced 3 times at level 100. However if you’re dropping 5 10 20 million gold per reroll you should have stopped a long time ago. I get when finding a good rare and wanting it to work, but sometimes you need to know when to say when. Gamblers fallacy is real.
