So, if I buy it on PC, will the expansion be unlocked when I play it on PS5? Or will I be required to buy it on both platforms?
it should be based on how many licenses you have. so if you have multiple copies of d4 you will need multiple copies of the xpac.
I want to say if you buy it on P.C. and you had to buy the game on console you’ll have to buy VoH twice. Worst case scenario.
You really didn’t think about that one did you. Well, did you have to buy D4 for every device you play it on? (The answer is yes). So that must mean…
Very curious about this as well; since I play the game on multiple platforms… Diablo 4 cosmetics and saves are cross platform, but two licenses were required for PC and PS5. Trophies BTW don’t unlock on both very well or easily.
If you had to buy the game on multiple platforms then you will probably have to buy the expansion on multiple platforms.
It’s crazy to me that people actually think they just get free PS5 expansions because they bought the expansion for PC… You can’t even get a free steam expansion if you bought the expansion through battlenet.
Blizzard products tend to be inconsistent with Cross Buy; IE overwatch content nowadays is all cross buy except on nintendo switch; hence the need for clarification.
It was verified a long time ago when people were crying about having to buy the game on steam because they wanted to play it through steam, but already owned it through battlenet. You wanna play it on PS5, buy it on PS5. You wanna play it on PC, then buy it on PC. There are no handouts.
Right and it’s not as simple as getting access to the base game. Are they going to lock me from playing my Spiritborns based on which system I logged into? Or even more, If I logout in the expansion zone, will I not be able to login to that character on a console without the expansion?
You most likely won’t even have access to an expansion character on a device that does not have the expansion activated.
also just want to add, I’m not complaining if I have to. I just would like to know if I do, as it will affect what edition I get if I have to buy multiple.
I think the way it will work is that when you create a character you will have the choice to mark it as an expansion character and existing characters can be converted to expansion characters and that platforms for which you have not purchased the expansion will be locked out of playing expansion characters.
I’ve been thinking about this as well. Maybe some players who bought the expansion can share if we still need to buy for every platform? Or no need?
I purchased the ultimate edition on PS5, and I have access to the expansion cosmetics/pets/etc on my PC account (I did not buy the expansion on my PC account). We will have to wait and see if the new map expansion/class is included, but so far it seems that the expansion is account-based… and not platform based.
I also have D4 on multiple platforms (XB and PC) and have this question. And I also am not complaining, I just want to know if I have to purchase the xpansion on both before I blindly shell out the cash.
Also, I have the ultimate edition on XBox, so I’m thinking that if buying the expansion on each platform is necessary, maybe I can get away with just getting the basic (cheapest) version on my PC.
So there are two components to it;
- Digital license required to play the expansion content, which is tied to your account.
- Account bound perks and cosmetic rewards, such as the pre-order bonuses.
Buying the expansion immediately gives you access to all of the pre-order bonuses on any platform you have access to - just like your regular account progress, shop bundles, etc. Same as any other account bound items.
However, just like the base Diablo 4 game itself, you will not be able to play the new content which hasn’t unlocked yet (the new class, new zones, new dungeons etc) on a different platform until you purchase the expansion for that platform. You need the digital software license, per platform, per account.
If you still have doubt, you can verify it here (scroll down to the FAQ at the bottom):
You will need to purchase Vessel of Hatred once per platform you want to play on. For example, to play on both Xbox and Battle.net you would need to get Vessel of Hatred on each of those platforms separately.
So yes, you will need to buy it on every platform you want to play it on. However, you can still save at least a little bit of money, since you only need to buy the premium version once (if you’re interested in the pre-order bonuses). For other platforms, you only need to buy the cheapest version of the expansion, because you already have access to the extra content.
Yes, you have exactly the right idea. It would not be sensible to buy the ultimate version on more than one platform, because it’s redundant - buying it once (on any platform) gives you access to all of the bonus content on all platforms.
They’ll probably let you do it though, so you need to protect yourself there and not overspend unnecessarily. The optimal strategy:
- Pre-order the highest level your heart desires on your preferred platform first.
- Buy the cheapest version for other platforms if and when you need/want it.
Pre-ordering more than one copy gives you nothing (unless you get early beta access, but I don’t think they’re doing that this time). This means that you can wait, and decide if you even want it on the other platform(s). Or even wait for a sale, so you could potentially get it even cheaper, if you don’t need it immediately on launch.
“Well actually” calm down poindexter. Whats obvious to you may not be obvious to others. You dont have to make the poster feel stupid to give him the right answer. Lol
Yes you do have to pay for it
