Recognizing the properties is really tough.
So, I made a tool.
Actually, if D4 game QoL is qualified, there’s absolutely no need for me to spend time creating this redundant software.
I cannot resist that I’ve spent more time appraising gears than actually killing monsters…
it bases on Tesseract OCR 5.0.
And python program to filter the recognized text, if it is a junk equipment, it would send a “space” key.
Sure, OCR tool has problems:
it does make some mistake, you may miss some good items.
it’s slow, about 3 seconds to recognize one item.
However, you can drink Coffee or have a short break when recognizing.
Actually, I tested and debugged it with screenshots. it can work without the game.
The most important question: Is it legal to use or share the tool?
Until such a time that Blizzard oversteps their bounds and installs software that can do more than it currently can, there is no possible way for Blizzard to know what is drawn over the top of D4 by another application, nor that AHK has sent a keypress to the game. Neither of these things modify anything visible to the game.
That said; the only way you would get banned for such a thing is by… oh, I don’t know… posting about it on their official forums!!! Lol.
I don’t know what possible use there could be for a script that takes 3 seconds per item to validate that item anyway.
On the bright side… something is coming soon™(jk with the ™)
1.1.3 Build #44582 (All Platforms) - August 29, 2023
Affixes on items will now sort consistently.
Developer’s Note: We’re adjusting how Affixes are displayed on item tooltips in Season of Blood. This change will lay the foundation for our ongoing work of making random Affixes easier to compare.
I’m anxiously awaiting this.
It “might” be an Affix hierarchy!!@.@
eg. let’s use Vuln, main stat, crit dmg and core…
They might be reworking it so that -
Main Stat is always in Affix slot #1
Core is always Affix slot #2
etc.
We shall see. No more Affix confetti will be a huge QOL for quickly scanning items and not only knowing what to look for but WHERE to look.
(p.s. if so my aching eyes rejoice!)
And THATS WHY we ALL Should have the Option to ENABLE it!!!
Its a BASIC QoL!!!
Ppl even if they like D4 or they Dont should understand a very simple thing.
These QoL aint at the base game (map overlay loot filter) for 2 reasons.
• Game wasnt Ready to be released (it got pushed due to shareholders)
• map overlay/loot filter aint implemented due to the game wasnt ready to be released…
Ohhh I said it twice?? Let me add the second one then…
Devs have No experience at Arpgs thats why they dont get the importance of these QoL… (maybe they get added at the Xpac to milk the rest playerbase that still put on the nostalgia glasses)
To white knights, the immersion excuse has to stop…
A Full Screen map is breaking the immersion ALSO.
(exile, singularity, 12vegan, veszerin hi)
I know <3
I mean considering their current fixes and patches, this might sadly be the outcome though
Worst case could be an unintended rework and setting fixed affix hierarchies to the statlines… Like
affix #1 random affix group #1
affix #2 random affix group (#1 or) #2
affix #3 random affix group (#2 or) #3
affix #4 random affix group (#3 or) #4
which would break probably most pieces of gear throughout the game and always contributing to some horrible rolls on it, not to mention it wouldn’t be fixable with any decent re-rolls at the occultist too.
So all that’s left is hoping for the best, without having any expectations
At this point I don’t even know if I’m going to play anymore but that would be nice. Not sure why it wouldn’t just be like that in the first place until I remember that nothing they do actually makes sense.
It’s strange…
My whole time with this game. I truly like it and …not hate. I try to not experience that emotion or state of mind. It has its moments that surely test me.
There’s these ‘feelings’ when playing that, without getting into console vs pc debate - I just KNOW that x,y and z are how they are because of console. I can’t explain it but it ‘feels’ off.
Same with a lot in the game with, as you said “…nothing they do actually makes sense.”
It DID and DOES though to the ones who designed it ie. be they a casual or non-gamer or one without experience in fast paced arpgs. Heck they probably thought it was amazing and would be well received. (big one being simple QOL issues and all the layers… I could make a 30 min video on over a dozen)
That’s another ‘feeling’ I get. Like a lot of things are really good then side by side other things are just ‘off’.
Such a mixed bag this game.
I am enjoying it though except my bursting stash as RNG has been kind to me lately and I’m worried about trading with all the nonsense surrounding it - as well as “wtf why 3rd party portal??” gripe haha.
I’m afraid the answer to both parts of this question is emphatically “no”. The EULA expressly prohibits software from reading any part of the game’s RAM or the GPU’s framebuffer (as that is being fed data from the game as a visual feedback output).
Specifically:
Basically, in a nutshell, if what you create can do something the game itself does not already provide access to (the ability to analyze and highlight desired items automatically), you cannot use it nor can you distribute said software.
The above information was taken directly from Blizzard Legal’s EULA. Do yourself a favor and avoid a ban by not using your OCR software.
