I feel like the devs made us pay for a broken game and now want more money to fix it

I agree, i think its unreasonable to feel the expac is a strong arm tactic to force you to buy.

Its just like ros. Its all new stuff.

Its not like necro though which is how i think some people are seeing it. And i can see why they feel there is no choice.

Im fine with voh and the expac and the power gated behind it relative to vanilla.

I am more worried about stability which depends on the bugs and exploits that are fixed or not fixed rather in the first couple weeks.

I feel like Microsoft should refund me for windows 3.1, windows 98, and windows 8 because those should have been 95, XP, and windows 10 from launch. I feel like the entire world beta tested for free and Microsoft should refund us.

yep, probably there’s some truth in this. Maybe it was because of Microsoft acquisition, they have rushed Diablo 4. I bet it was initially plan to have much more contents, with more dungeons, more bosses, and some others stuff. At least one more year of development. Business is business though…

for sure. i mean it has been said d4 got released too early. a year or two would for sure have been good.

now, im happy about the base game when d4 got released a year ago, yes, as im a pretty big campaign guy. but was it fully fleshed out? no. will it ever be? also no. thats kind of the nature of live service games.

hahaha! just tired of the entitled whiney crap. As someone who primarily writes code to make his living at some point I just get fed up with people complaining that they have to pay for this work if they want to use it.

Do people go to the grocery store and tell them you bought milk last week so you don’t want to pay for it this week? do you pump and go at the gas station because well you already filled your tank and paid them once? do you buy a song on Itunes and expect to get the full album? or expect access to every sequel ever made to a movie because you paid for one of them?

No right?

So why do people feel like buying a base game or any piece of software should mean they get every add-on expansion upgrade for free and the producer of said software is somehow ripping people off by offering paid additions to their product? I just don’t get the entitled thinking.

You know i see it from the point of view of not wanting the expac or wanting to buy it at all actually from the necro expectation players.

If you want the content and dont want to play spiritborn, I understand that disappointment.

Thinking that the expac should be free is definitely unreasonable imho.

i mean, i think you know anyway, but i absolutely agree xD

yea, these are decisions we have to make.

yeah I get that too. some people may not be interested in it, or may not be able to afford it, or have other priorities. I get that. I dont think everyone has to buy it. lord knows i have not bought every expansion to every game i have played and i never buy “shop items” from games but i mean it’s like every other available product in the world. you make a choice on whether you want to buy it or not, so why cry because it’s not free?

In d3 there were a few d3v holdouts for a couple years that didnt buy ros but i dont rmember seeing any of their posts after seasons started.

Although for necro i think there was a lot more that didnt buy but i think they eventually got in with a good sale, but that population is hard to track.

So i think you understand im not making the point or saying that proxy choice forcing is okay, im trying to illustrate why people feel that way. So hyperbolic example on a slippery slope is the easiest way to explain it.

This is why this question was not in tune with what i was trying to explain. Not necessarily argue in favor of. It actually made it harder to explain the problem albeit is in the same vein. It is the other end of the slippery slope fallacy which is the problem.

Some people feel that an expac is an or should be optional (which in itself is the problem because expac design is relative to the specific game) purchase.

Assuming that a person feels an expac is optional, which it technically is, the relative power that is locked behind this “paywall” is not optional to have.

Hence feeling forced to buy the expac to continue playing.

So the expac isnt really option to buy or not buy. You must buy it to continue playing d4, which anyone should know if they went through d3 ros.

There are a lot of people who have a different idea of what an expac means for diablo series and these people are new to the franchise. So they had / have different expectations what an expac entails.

I.e. civ expac or age of empires are totally different than as someone mentioned destiny 2.

P.s. if you were trying to help me with a counter example explaining it, then i missed your point nyurei. I thought you were trying to make the point it was stupid to make the expac decision off the power and content locked in voh, which is normal for the series and people should just buy it as part of the continuation of the game experience.

You shouldn’t “feel” anything about what happened at launch.
If you are still worried about 60 dollars you spent last year, that’s probably a problem.

If you’re currently worried about spending 40 dollars on an expansion… then don’t buy it.
40 dollars isn’t enough money to care about.
So if you do care about 40 dollars… that’s a problem. You should be more worried about improving your life so that 40 dollars isn’t something you’d be worrying about.

How many hours of entertainment will you get out of this 40 dollars?
It costs 50 dollars to go to a 2 hour movie at the cinema and buy a popcorn and a drink.
40 dollars is almost nothing.

Even if you only played VoH for a total of 40 hours over the course of the next year or two until the next expansion comes out, which is a ridiculously low estimate… that’s still only 1 dollar per hour of entertainment. That’s decent value, even in the world where someone actually values 40 dollars.

If you’re holding out for “moral” reasons, or to “make a point”… trust me… nobody cares.

I think most people that arent going to buy voh feel that they have been crowdfunding a beta.

Most will wait and pick up the game at a later date when its less of a constant reoccuring rework.

This is mainly the eternal players.

I think the seasonal players are fine with everything.

I’m a big fan of Diablo 3 - D3 vanilla is not one of them. For many players, Inferno Act 2 was the end. Despite farming Act 1 for weeks, a better weapon or item almost never came along. There were various players who, thanks to a bug with “vase farming”, found better gear and then offered it at ridiculous prices in the auction house.

It is literally the best isometric-arpg on the market with no actual competitors

The real problem? Us gamers. I got burned with D4 @$90…never again…had no plans to buy anything else from Bizz. As long as people keep throwing money at crappy companies for garbage, it will never get any better.

Noobs… Diablo 3 was exactly the same way with all the same complaints.

A game of this magnitude is impossible to properly test with just the standard beta testing. If the game was released in what some people mistakenly believe is a completed state it is almost certain it would be a buggy mess and impossible to play. Instead the basic foundation of the game was released, and piece by piece new elements are being carefully added in, all the while with the full population of players.

We are not only players but also workers who have helped build Diablo 4. Without us there would be no game. We are not just customers but investors in the game.

And that is a problem why?!?

Maybe you shouldn’t had bought an item in the AH?

See the problem with D3 wasn’t bad loot. It was that there where some “cheap” ways to get items without actualy grinding them.

People don’t want to play Diablo. They just wanna have all the loot and blast everything.

Just look in this forum. How many people have complained that the citadel is bad cause there is a “reward” you can’t get solo.

Now compare how many have complained that there is “Content” they cannot play.

People do not even care for the game. They just want “LOOT LOOT LOOT” at best for free or as easy as possible.

See i played a few hours today and there was actualy something that i realy realy like. Something most people probably do not even see or realise.

They made the Ragdoll better. Finaly when i kill a mob with my barb he does not slowly tip to the side as if he took an overdoze of valium.
