This’ll be the first time I’ve bought an expansion pack from Bliz. In the past I’ve bought complete games that had all the expansions in them already. So I’m not aligned on an expectation. Based on price I’d expect something close to the amount of the full game, but I really don’t know. Some insight from those more experienced than I would be welcome.
not even close to the amount of a full game. I still bought the expansion, but its nowhere near worth the amount they are charging. The new area is just that, 1 area. Think Scosglen or fractured peaks when i say “area”. Guess we will see how much of the story there actually is, but i cant see all that much stuff being added. The new class looks fun though.
Oohhhhh, see I was envisioning a region the size of Estuary… That it’ll be more like one of the smaller regions is very helpful! Wow, i’d have been seriously disappointed without that insight.
I’m very curious about story size as well. The base game takes about a week to get through, I saw an estimate somewhere it was targeted for 40 hours? I wonder if we’ll get half that at least?
A new class is alwas welcome, regardless if it’s one I’m excited about (this one I’m not) but would it be fair to say the class is 20% of the content or would it be more like 33%?
Probably enough to be completed in a day or at most would be two days.
It all depends on the ‘burn rate’ (how fast) someone eats up the content. To 100% the story probably like 10hrs at a normal rate. To 100% everything probably a lot longer, maybe even up to 40hrs. Just guessing going by the size of the area. It could all take a lot less time, or a lot more.
It is all still very much welcomed though.
any addition is much welcomed, but it would be more welcomed with a lower price tag lol
It’s $40.
If you don’t like it, don’t get it. Or wait for a sale.
But if you bought VoH as a prepurchase, all you’ve said to Blizzard is “Yes, this price is acceptable. Here’s my money.”
I feel $40 is low given the times we currently live in. I use to play eq1/2 and x-packs were always $40 and up for special editions going back to 2002…
I’d like to set aside the discussion on price, if we can, and consider the content. Pricing, as a statement of value is a very subjective concept where content can be measured.
My thinking on the price is based on the content as shown. Since we havent been able to actually play the new content, its all speculation at this point. Ive always enjoyed the Diablo games and i have no problem paying whatever. Im comparing the expansion and price to expansions and prices that other developers have released. Take Final Fantasy XIV for example, those expansions are huge compared to we have seen with VoH.
Edit: Im not saying its not worth it, its up to you to decide if its worth it. I did buy VoH so clearly i thought it was worth it lol (even if it is just for a month or so.)
I think with all the new stuff we might hit 1 month and half to 2 months of engagement then its going to get old which is ok for a season but not for expansion.
New zone, roughly the same size if not bigger then the other zones in the game, comes with new dungeons, strongholds, and waypoints. New class the Spiritborn. New Co-op Dungeon that requires 2 more or people to complete. New Kurast Undercity Dungeon that is supposed to allow some kind of target farming from what we understand, but no specifics have been given. New Runeword system.
Everything else you’ve seen from the PTR (aside from the Runeword system) will be a base change to the game. Such as the level rework, paragon board changes, difficulty levels, etc.
Apples to oranges. Not that I wouldn’t mind a whole new continent of content, which is originally what I thought the new zone would be since little miss soulstone decided to take a boat and go east (or was it west?). Apparently all she did was make a u-turn once she got out to sea.
If you go on PureDiablo, they extracted a map from the PTR files that you can view.
Nahantu looks like it increases the original size of the map by roughly 15-20%.
I thought the same about the new continent of content. Its not really apples to oranges though. An Expansion means the same no matter what, expanding on the original by adding new content. It just depends on how much and often the developer is going to release them. if Blizzard is planning on an expansion every year, then yeah, its a bit different. We wouldnt end up with as much content than another developing and releasing every 2 years.
Well I take it from the genre, more so then the industry. Diablo-esque type games are very different then MMORPG’s. Take D2 or D3 for example.
Now D2 we got 2 new classes, runewords, the 5th Act, and numerous items along with some other goodies.
D3 only added 1 new class, 5th Act again, and actual endgame content in the form of Rifts, along with new items, etc. Then it continued to get get support through seasons over the years.
Where as FFXIV, and WoW are giant MMORPG’s where expansions are meant to tide the player over for the long run, with constant updates up until the next expansion comes out. After all you are paying for the service through a monthly subscription. So yea, apples to oranges within that context.
I expect alot of content just from the spirit born class itself. Then on top we have a few extra activities to tackle endgame like the undercity and the dark citadel.
Personally I’m looking most forward to the DC and how blizzard tunes it for group play. I’m hoping it’ll be a well balanced mode that ain’t face roll but isn’t too demanding with coordination otherwise pugs will fall apart.
Ok, i get where you’re coming from. That makes more sense now. Although, D4 is starting to take on more and more MMO-esque features lol
