“I can’t fathom how this game is worse in every aspect than Diablo III,” you lost me when i saw this. This in every way is a million times better then D3, D3 was so bad and the most boring game ive ever played next to the Incredible Hulk for Sega Genesis i cant even bring myself to play it again for any reason. I don’t care how good the seasons were.
Combat is really clunky too still, for some classes and builds. The whole builder spender system is kind of trash as well, fortunately it is eventually mostly alleviated the higher your level or build. Barb in particular has a lot of issues on that, as well as other bs. Triple shouts don’t go off correctly on kb/m. Core skills randomly don’t go off if basic is held down. Metamorphosis rubber bands and double presses.
F2P arpgs feel smoother.
There’s too many things wrong with this game to count. I’d be amazed if the team there manages to fix the game but am not expecting anything anymore.
This is the only thing that is actually a fundamental problem with the game in your entire list. The helltide timer definitely needs to go.
Something that is fundamentally bad by definition will never be not fundamentally bad, because it is fundamentally bad. You have to redo the entire thing to change the foundation.
Wait for Diablo 5 bois.
The game has really improved by leaps since before S1
There are 2 big issues with the game
1 - Itemization
2 - Mobs never evolve
If they fix those 2 things (without even doing extra work) the game will be in a much better place
Actually season 2 was a huge improvement to the game - it feels good to play the game now. I hope they will keep seasonal game mechanics in dungeons as a modifier or something. The game is definitely on a positive trajectory.
However the biggest issue currently for me is that weapon stats are superfluous, you can literally just summarize all of those increased damage modifiers into one number.
We need more variety in the weapon stats eg. attack speed modifier, life on hit/kill, resource on hit/kill, fortify on hit/kill, chance for potion to drop, chance for extra gold to drop, bonus exp on kill, random elixer effect, +5 paragon points, etc.
This would make weapons much more interesting for me compared to currently.
Also I wish that cinders and gold would auto pick-up…
- Content in seasons should go to the Eternal realm for players to enjoy permanently.
- The game needs a party or group finder for activities.
- Needs an in-game encyclopedia with enemies, places, terms, collectible entries (including audios), and more.
- Requires housing, with the possibility to decorate your house.
- The vampiric powers idea is nice. It should be permanent. Choosing to be a vampire also should have a side effect, such as weakness to fire.
- Players should be able to play seasons with their already leveled characters instead of having to create a new one. Leveling a character to 100 every season is incredibly tiresome, boring, and uninteresting.
- Necromancer: we should be able to order skeletons to attack specific targets as in D3.
- Necromancer: we should be able to create different combinations of minions, such as sacrificing all skeleton mages to have 2 golems instead.
- Blood builds are totally useless and uninteresting.
- There are no item sets.
- Most skills are not visually appealing, especially sorcerer.
- For rogue, there’s no viable full stealth build.
- We need the Blood Knight in D4 as well.
- We need the templar.
- Possibility to attack NPCs in towns and being targeted by guards for doing so (crime system).
- We should be able to play as villains completely.
- More character creation choices.
- Cosmetic prices are obscene.
- Ability to transfer our game license to Steam if we want to do so, instead of having to repurchase it, or just pay a small fee to transfer.
- No level scaling for enemies.
These are only a few things I’d change. But I know there are many others. All in all, the game world feels very rich and there is so little we can do. So many NPCs and yet they are like just part of the scenery. We should be able to do a lot more with those NPC characters populating the world. They just didn’t try.
D3 was so bad…
Diablo 3 has become the fastest selling PC game in history, accumulating 3.5 Million in sales over its first 24 hours of release and 6.5 Million in the entire week.
Diablo III is one of the best-selling PC video games of all time with 30 million copies sold worldwide .
It also ran for 29 seasons.
Cant be that bad hey.
Yet so good it inspires posts like this
It really is the ‘diehard’ fans who want the game to essentially be rehashed D2. Unfortunately for them (and maybe the franchise as a whole?), D2 didn’t sell as well as D3 did and D4’s also outsold it. The writing on the wall is that what they’re doing now is working out better for them. Besides, D2 still exists for anyone who’d prefer to play that. It’s not like Overwatch where an old game got full-on replaced by a new one.
Really? That is your conclusion? that D3 is better than D2 because it sold more? And D4 is better than D3 because it sold more?
Guess what, the market is bigger than 20 years ago.
-
Boring recycled skills and classes zero originality on display in any way.
-
The skill tree (skill twig) it pathetic and offers almost nothing in my opinion.
-
The Paragon notes could not be more boring even if they tried.
This same game with completely new classes, skills, a robust skill tree, and a paragon system with game changing stuff would make that game amazing.
As it stands it is simply the same thing I have played for decades more or less. Not horrible, but it could not be less inspired even if it tried to be. Blizzard in my opinion is happy to just be decent. They have no real desire for greatness. It is what it is.
My personal experience is I have played D4 the least out of D1,D2,D3,D4. Also probably less than every other ARPG ive played. The campaign was great but the end game is really trash. The core of the classes is pretty boring. D4 Needs a lot of work to make it ‘fun’.
Honestly this post is a complaining about personal beefs and this post overall is pretty bad. I would say it’s fundamentally bad.
At this point especially calling Diablo 4 a bad game just means that you’re kind of soft in the brain. No one should listen to you and no one should even read it after the ridiculous headline. I got a couple of lines in and made this comment because it’s a fundamentally bad comment.
Cheers all
I bet you won’t stop playing though. Its soooo bad… Lol
Yeah, and D2R, a game that released just prior to D4, also didn’t sell as well as D4 did. The game’s design just isn’t as appealing to a wider audience.
I loved d2 but i didn’t buy d2r. Why? Because i generally dislike remakes.
Season 2 adding stashes beside every vendor alone made the game 100% better to play.
The game still has some fundamental problems to it, but the problems are mostly in the game design philosophy – basically Blizzard wants the game to be always-online. This is a fundamental problem which will never be solved because Blizzard wants you to be showing off shiny premium skins to other people in the world. This introduces issues like lag, which is self-explanatory, and the excuse Rod always gives about why they can’t add more stash space because “the game loads the inventories and stashes of every player in your instance.”
In addition, the MMO-aspect of the game means Blizzard wants you to waste time and be timegated rather than just having fun playing. This gives you incentive to be online and show off your premium skins to other players, so they also buy skins and battlepass.
These are fundamental issues that will never be fixed. All the other problems in the game stem from this fundamental game design philosophy problem. It’s why you had so much running around town before Season 2, so much running and backtracking around the worldmap, timegated farming events, etc.
All of it is designed to keep you online so you can spend money in the cash store.
Or it could just be that people don’t like buying old games in general. Only collectors and people looking to relive “the good old days” buy old games, and the odd person who wants to see what things were like before they were born or were influenced by an influencer to do so.
Either way the market for a game like Diablo 2 Resurrected would always be smaller than the market for the latest heavily-hyped AAA version of the game. Most people will automatically get Diablo 4 over Diablo 2, by sheer virtue of it being the latest.
