I don’t feel like it was a good change to the gems in the armor, I feel like Ruby will always be the best option, so I think better options would be
Diamond: + all status
sapphire: + flat resource value
emerald: % critical chance ( max 2,5% per gem, maybe?)
amethyst: % damage reduction (0,5- 2%?)
ruby and skull: no changes
Overall gems are not very creative or interesting, similar to WoW. They seem to be there because you expect it. Armor and weapons are mostly weak but jewelry effects are alright to have. I liked the Topaz for armor (pre PTR).
If I remember correctly the situation is now similar to Diablo 3. Weapons got no alternative to green gems. Armor the mainstat gem. Jewelry the unique stones (which was fine again). And the developers didnt bother to change that because…? But I didnt play for quite a while so you can correct me on that.
Sometimes I feel like the developers just dont want to take inspiration of Diablo 2. Solutions are there. Those jewels with 1-4 low random stats would be cool to have in Diablo 4’s loot. And the reroll feature could be used to reduce gem materials.
(equips Doombringer, equips Melted Heart) Why the hell do I need 100k health for? Might as well put in something else instead of Ruby.
Ruby is only beneficial if the player is dying. If survival isn’t an issue, well there’s other options.
