Game keeps randomly causing my computer to crash and restart

When playing D4, my computer sometimes randomly crashes and restarts. I’m unsure what the exact cause is, but the most common locations it occurs are when I’m in dungeons. However, the crashing isn’t limited to these areas and has occurred in the open world on occasion. I’ve checked my computer’s stats and the voltage and temp are both fine, so I know those aren’t the issue. I’m also on the latest drivers. Lowering the graphics and undervolting didn’t fix the issue either. My computer is beefy and relatively brand-new (all parts were purchased almost 3 months ago). Diablo 4 is also the only game I’ve played that caused this issue for me. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? And if so, have you figured out a way to fix it?

I’m having the same issue, working in trying to figure out the reason.

Same here, but it just started this afternoon - after whatever they did to fix the login issues. I can play for about 5 minutes before the comp reboots. . .

I think I found my issue, the latest graphic drivers messed with my settings in the X1 precision software I use with my evga FTW3 card. Reset to default and so far so good.

Same issue.
Game is causing black screen and PC restarts.
Occurs completely random (happened even during a cutscene once).
Different settings, resetting undervolts, updating drivers, etc. did not help.
Hardware is fine, temps are ~70°.

Specs:

Windows 11
EVGA 3090 TI
Ryzen 5800X
32GB DDR4 RAM ~3600 MHz
NVMe SSD

Think I found the issue on my end.
New nVidia driver branch (535) seems to be more aggressive in a way that is provoking memory related BSODs.

I had to disable the preset XMP profile in BIOS and finetune the RAM OC settings. Issue has disappeared since then.
I wonder if this will be reverted in an upcoming driver release or if this is a bug.
Theoretically, a rollback to an older branch should also do the trick.

I’m having same issue. My PC would BSOD or hard reboot at random times. I’m running 2080 Super and I7 9700KF - only game I’ve experienced this in, is in D4.

I did some research, been everywhere on every forum to find out what was wrong.

Yesterday, I found someone who said they had same issue in New World, when that arrived and had to manually put more volt to their PSU. I found Windows Event Manager, who told me it was a Windows Kernel-Power-41 error.

I’m not really into software and hardware, usually just buy things and let someone build it for me.

TLDR; I went to BIOS (very scared, never been in that before) and set CPU voltage up to 1.350v which fixed everything and I did not crash anymore. Downloaded some hardware to watchover the heat of my PC - seems like 1.35 is too much, so next few day I’ll have to find the perfecct volt of being able to play vs. too hot PC.

Anyways, I think it’s bad coding of a game, that I (a simply mortal) got to be in my BIOS and make things I barely know anything about.

Exact same issue–it’s happen 3-4x since the game launched. I’ve tried a variety of “fixes,” but nothing has worked yet.

Interestingly, the issue now seems to happen daily despite various attempts at fixing it. It’s never at a high performance load moment either–it’s usually shortly after loading the game.

I have same problem  i decided just wait till they fix it

What fixes it for me is to setup CPU Affinity and set Priority to high. (Google D4 CPU affinity) Explained there: www-DOT-getdroidtips-DOT-com/diablo-4-stuttering-lags-freezing/#9-Set-CPU-Affinity-via-Task-Manager

Currently experiencing the same issue of PC fully restarting while playing the game. What’s interesting is that I was able to play just fine for a week, then suddenly yesterday the crashes started happening. No updates/changes were made in terms of drivers or BIOS settings.

Since then I’ve tried scan/fix files, GPU driver updates/rollbacks, BIOS settings, and am now reinstalling the game. I tried lowering FPS but it actually crashed before I could commit. If reinstalling doesn’t work might force low settings via config file.

pasted from other forum:

Sadly a lot of people are having this error and there’s no real fix, some people have success turning off nvidia reflex, others turning off steam/discord overlay, others reducing the load of their VRAM by setting textures to medium / reducing resolution / ramping their GPU fan up to 100% at all time to cool the VRAM (GPUs don’t take VRAM temps into consideration for fan speed). with successes very mixed.

It does seem to be an issue with VRAM temps as this game is badly optimised and runs it HARD AND HOT. I’ve been arguing with support for days now and are refusing a refund because it’s been over 2hours (due to troubleshooting taking well over 2hours) which is unethical, shady, and here in Australia ILLEGAL (already reported them to ACCC).

Re-installed the game, deleted localprefs file in Docs folder then launched. Was able to turn all settings to low, disable NVIDIA reflex, and cap FPS to 70.

I was crashing within 5 min of launching, so far been playing for 30 min.

I am also Having a hard reset to black screen. Then my comp won’t identify a source to my monitors which requires a reboot.

I have been watching temps and noting seems out of ordinary. Happens at very random times. Pretty frustrating, especially after attempting all the “fixes” with no success.

This issue is starting to look pretty common and should be addressed swiftly.

So you pay 100 bucks to not play a game. This is ridiculous.

Same issue, black screen randomly hard reset with 9600K, 32gb ram, m2, evga 2080ti. Only problems with this game, I tried to change conf to low, med, hi and ult and same result…
