If I did, you would have better answers in Blue, or at least I would make a better effort.
I read the rest of your replies too. Jeez.
Ok.
First off, you aren’t running long enough to even come close to filling VRAM. So I think that is not your issue with your crashing so fast. Most VRAM issues take a bit to kick in and cause issues, once you played long enough. If that makes any sense.
Is there any chance you have used MSI Afterburner before? It also can add a tool (RivaTuner) to show you an onscreen status overlay of your card that you can customize and it shows while playing. But I don’t know how savvy you are with things like that.
As for temp monitoring, I have been using HWMonitor version 1.50. Its kinda average, can be buggy on CPUs sometimes, but it shows my VRAM temp on the GPU. It also will show VRAM use, and a number of other useful info on the GPU and system in general.
But with your description of the issue, I don’t think you are getting in long enough for the VRAM to be causing it right now.
This might be something else.
What brand and wattage was the PSU? And how are your power cables connected? Believe it or not, the game is very power demanding and can spike power usage more than a lot of other things, and there have been a few other cases where the PSU turned out to be the issue. Not saying it is here, but was simply curious.
Honestly, if it were me, I would just keep the settings conservative. High FPS in this game isn’t needed really, and many have not seen much difference between Ultra and High settings. And not many have HDR monitors either.
I appreciate your help, especially given you’re just a fellow gamer! Shame Blizz won’t come in here with any suggestions or even recognize this issue. You know what really bugs me, is that this game worked just fine for me in beta. No issues at all. At 175Hz, even. The only thing that has changed is I have a different GTX 1080 Ti in my computer because before my last travel-for-work, 2 weeks ago my EVGA FTW3 Hybrid GTX 1080 Ti died, someone at the site I was working at the last 2 weeks had replaced their MSI Duke 1080 Ti with a 4070 Ti, so they offered to lend me their 1080 Ti. Holy crap, that’s gotta be one of the kindest gestures!
Anyways, the PSU is a SeaSonic PRIME 750w Titanium, so a very good PSU. Never had any issues from it. I’ve ran DOOM Eternal on ultra settings with HDR at 175Hz at 3440x1440 and that wasn’t an issue. I’ve done photo editing with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, which are also pretty power-demanding.
Personally, I don’t really like MSI, as they seem to have a lot of issues with hacks and stuff, so while I used Afterburner in the past, I don’t anymore. I am monitoring my temps though and they’re all doing pretty dang well. The GPU’s hotspot maxed at 84 C, while the GPU core was only hitting 70 C. Power draw is apparently at 105% max on default on this card. Guess I’ll download HWMonitor to see the VRAM temps.
Yes, that is a very nice quality PSU. No argument there. And that should support the GTX1080TI. I would probably feel better at 850W, but the 750W should be ok. You are running dedicated cables to both power connections right? I had one user using one cable and piggybacking the two on the card from it.
Direct power, yep.
So I’ve been able to play without issues at 60Hz and HDR. As annoying as it is missing the higher refresh rates. Oddly, even though I have G-Sync enabled, the game was having screen tearing when I had the fps limited to 60 fps with VSYNC turned off, so I turned it on. Technically with G-Sync you’re support to keep VSYNC off, so that’s a bit irksome. Oh well, glad to be able to play at least. My God does the game look better in HDR though and higher resolution than my sh*tty ol’ laptop! Appreciate all your help!
Well, speak of the devil, seems they just put out a patch? Not sure if it already installed before this whole discussion earlier or not. Hope the random glitches and crashes part at the very bottom of the notes correlated with this whole thread!
Saw it on Wowhead, but it’s possible it was actually an older patch or a patch coming up. I thought I saw it as a new thing, but this was on Facebook, so it’s possible I was seeing a days-old news update.
And what do ya know? Was playing for about 20-30 minutes and the game crashed when I opened the Blacksmith. Sigh
This time it was even more briefly lived, was idling in Khyovashad (sp?) while adding someone on friends list and monitoring temps, and it froze and crashed. Incredible. Where’s Blizz?
Amazing. Uninstalled the high-res assets. Relaunched game. Got in, was able to salvage all magic and common stuff, then game froze.
Literally what the f
And I’m not allowed a refund, this is seriously utter BS.
Ugh I literally just was traveling for work for 11 days and could barely play due to long days and a sh!t laptop that really isn’t fun to game on. Now I have a few days off before I go working long days again lol this is such bs
Hey friend, good news. I figured out the problem. So I had an eVGA 1080 Ti that had died before my last couple weeks of travel right? So a bud at the site I traveled to gave me his old MSI Duke 1080 Ti, hoping it would work. I never thought the GPU could work sometimes but ultimately, it was the culprit. I ran 3DMark this morning and about 20 seconds into Time Spy Extreme, it crashed. I got myself an ASUS TUF 4080 and thankfully no issues! I am running ultra settings, 175Hz, HDR, holy moly! I just haven’t downloaded the high detail assets, but we’ll see. I’m just happy I can play now! Appreciate all your help, but I am glad to say my issue is resolved! <3
For now, I wouldn’t go too crazy with settings, till we get a bit further along and they address some of the VRAM issues.
Please, run HWMonitor and keep an eye on your GPU VRAM memory temps. If they are running above 85c, you might want to take some action just to keep them cooler.
Memory is maxing out at 68 Celsius and the GPU’s hot spot is 77.5 Celsius. I’m pretty happy! I’ve been in-game for a couple hours now and it feels so great! My settings are cranked pretty high tbh lol GPU-Z shows my GPU’s memory has maxed out at 11.5GB being used, which is still under the 16GB that it has, so I am really happy to see that!
