cant believe, but this truly works!
With this method you also create a lag. But this lag isn’t deterministic. With 1 fps it’s likley but not sure to work. For a deterministic way you should use a defined lag. As mentioned in this thread you can use Clumsy or another tool for that.
I got this bug and stuck on one of my character today, I cant believe they haven’t fixed this bug yet…by reading thread people say to use Clumsy or change setting but i’m not sure if I up for it ><
This bug hasn’t been fixed since the launch of D4. I tried switching world tiers, I tried quickly finishing the event and then running in. Nothing seems to work.
Can confirm that this was the workaround that fixed it for me.
I tried many proposed solutions, but on the first try instaliing VPN, switching to USA (I’m from Poland) resolved issue.
After about 50 resets with the other methods, this one worked first try, thank you so much!
i tried whats kvick said + i tought i switch tiers in the menu to advanture then back to nightmare and it worked before that i did like 5-6 relog without switching tier maybe it can work with no event +going out and relog + tier switch to t2 then back to t3 without closing the game
Finally found the thread and person where I read about this.
It works btw.
EDIT 26th July: Did it in seasonal.
When you are in front of the cave you change background FPS to 1.
Click cave then instantly alt+tab for 20 seconds.
other than that nothing else matters (very likely).
If it doesn’t work you can try again and also alt+tab right after you click on the npc until they scream (and also stick to lower side of screen from when you load in the cave until NPC click) but I don’t think this changes anything.
It’s probably not about latency but about how assets are loaded. The lag thing might work (see below, well…above) as well, for the same reasons, but I’d try this first.
Just ‘fixed’ this (and it’s unlikely to be luck).
So:
Don’t abandon, don’t clear event (very likely irrelevant), go to the cave, change game to windowed (not fullscreen window), lock cutscene fps, set max fps to 59, set min fps to ONE, uncheck the “lock cursor to game window” so you can minimize (or Windows+M which I forgot about), accept…click to enter cave (1st time in that game after char select), right after you click the entrance minimize the game and do something else for a few seconds, alt tab back, hug the lower wall until you are under the NPC, click her ONCE and without doing anything else (no moving, nothing) quickly minimize game again and don’t click on it again until they scream.
If it doesn’t work walk outside the cave and log out and I think you have to wait out the 9s timer if you want to relog and still be next to the game. Or was it the other way around (exit right away and relog within 8s)?
Also, don’t be in combat when you enter the cave (which might be why clearing events helps).
I did clear Raze the Effigies event in the attempt that worked (2nd one where I tried to minimize with 1 fps background cap - I don’t think it made a difference, it’s about how it loads assets…although ppl had problems with necro pets that auto-aggro on the bugged barrier…but if it’s spawned bugged already you are probably done for anyway in that game).

This still goes unfixed over a month after release. Just had this quest softlock.
Blizard please fix this bug, I am unable to complete the quest even after clearing the event and logging out of the game and logging back in.
Can confirm. Just 1fps on background did the trick (you can press Win key and it still does the thing even with mouse locked).
OMG Bliz that’s not 80s anymore to rely on fps in games.
VPN worked perfectly, I am located in Montreal and I connect to Vancouver, I don’t if it worked because of the latency or the location…
Its ridiculous but the 1fps workaround is the only thing that work for me…
I spend over hour on that quest trying pulling barbs to the event, clearing outside event, switching diff etc…
Same for me. Fascinating.
Hey there,
would it be possible to fix this quest? The woman stands still after her monologue and that’s that. I tried many things posted here and on reddit
Thank You!
With best regards
Avenger
Limiting max FPS to 15 before enter the cave did the trick for me.
God bless your soul. I have been trying to complete this for 3 weeks. Tried all solutions. Trying other solutions about 50 times each. This one worked the first time. I really thank you from the bottom of my heart.
So weird. I did the switch to windowed, limit fps to 15, minimize on entering the cave, walk to ealda, interact and minimize again.
Wild that someone figured this out, but thank you.
Can confirm limiting your FPS is the workaround for this:

There’s a solution that works 100% of the time
- make sure your game is in windowed or borderless window
- set the minimum background fps to 1fps
- relog outside of the cave
- click on the cave entry and tab out, wait until everything has fully loaded at 1fps
- start the conversation and tab out again
- wait until they start shouting, then you’re safe to continue normally with the quest
You don’t need to tab out again when speaking with the NPC, just make sure the barricade is not targetable after loading into the cave.
