closed beta, open beta, server slam all had the fullscreen exclusive option for me, which i used all the time, and never had any issues with it, no alt-tab issues etc.
but early access now doesnt even show the fullscreen exclusive option, just windowed and windowed fullscreen.
Also cannot seem to choose which display you play the game on. You have to make the monitor you want to play on the âmain displayâ in Windows settings. Annoying.
Similar thing here - Monitor and Resolution were greyed out in Server Slam and same with this early access release. It wonât let me change the resolution to something lower than 4K, and there is no Full Screen option, just Windowed and Windowed (Full Screen). Game crashed all the time during Server Slam and so far in about 3 hours of play time today itâs crashed multiple dozens of times, whether Iâm in menus, or in action. Screen tearing is really bad whether Vsync is on or off, in game settings or card settings. Tried capping frame rate, lots of other things.
Exclusive fullscreen is like the bare minimum of what a game should have, especially such a big budget title. Is it bugged or did they actually remove the option??
there were issues (mainly alt-tab) with fullscreen exclusive in the beta/server slam, so obviously they intentionally removed it. but at least i didnt have any issues; they should have kept it, and if not fixed engine-wise, with a warning in the in-game settings that if one experiences issues, one should use windowed (fullscreen), but not remove fullscreen exclusive entirely for everyone.
Originally they disabled this partway into the slam. During closed beta and open beta I remember having the option to change these. And it wasnât until slam that I noticed that setting had changed. And I remembered them saying someplace on here about it being a bug where there was an issue when you would alt tab to the desktop when running exclusive full screen.
That said after reading that post above, it makes me wonder if theyâre going to fix this "bug"or not. And I guess that would mean that some of us are going to have issues. However:
There should be an option to use scaling. And if I recall correctly you should be able to change the resolution there. But I have yet to monkey with this.
When I get back to my office Iâm going to look into this a little more and see if thereâs an easier way to change the settings for some of you.
it wasnt obvious from the in-game setting description what kind of fullscreen mode this was during the closed & open beta and server slam, but there definitely was a fullscreen option, whereas currently there is only windowed and windowed (fullscreen). and both these disable the below options of choosing display and gpu; and people with different resolutions on different displays (eg. for streaming, or dc etc. on the other monitor) face issues due to this limitation. i think also dlss resp. other upscalers require real fullscreen modes to function properly.
Hi, if I donât get an exclusive fullscreen option Iâm going to refund the game. Someone at Blizzard really needs to weigh-in on this. For those of us with a Gsync Ultimate monitor and a proper GPU like a 4090, we canât even use Gsync properly if the game isnât running in exclusive fullscreen. Iâm being limited to 60fps because Borderless Window is the only option and thatâs regardless of my foreground or background FPS setting.
Blizzard. How can you release a game for âŹ70 and not have this basic setting?
Either they add back in fullscreen support with the ability to change resolutions again or no buy.
I canât stand movie bars at the top and bottom of my screen and the inability to resize the ui.
Changing my screen resolution for windows is not a solution, each program i run has a set scale that is different from the other.
Forcing windows into a unified scale messes up everything.
From my gathering they had it for the first couple of betas of which i was present for one of them where it worked, then they took it out with no ETA on when it would be back.
Adding back in missing features should have been a priority before even early access, itâs supposed to be the launch version with everything at the very least itâs core features.
Sounds like you need to review your GPU driver settings.
G-Sync has the option of:
Setting G-sync on full screen exclusive.
Setting G-Sync on full screen and desktop. (make sure you use this option too)
Then set your FPS to match the monitor refresh. If that refresh is 60 Hz, guess what? It will cap the FPS to 60.
I have a 144Hz monitor. The FPS in both desktop and games is 144. (well close to it. D4 runs a solid 138FPS anyway, due to how it interprets the cap I have set)
Over-running your monitor with more frames than it can display will only make the GPU work harder, thatâs it.
The only time you want to over run it a little, is to lower latency, but on a game like Overwatch or Valorant or something FPS related. These sorts of games really donât benefit from it.
Yes in Windowed Fullscreen i get those black bars top and bottom of my game screen, think they are called widescreen bars or something.
I am not using that other option that basically makes my game screen look like a windows open window, i am using fullscreen .
I used the resolution options to resize my ui, such as my hp bubble and ui buttons, without the ability to go full screen proper and be able to set my screen resolution in game, i am stuck with those black bars and a small ui scale.
I really do need that full screen proper option back, and I donât see why it canât come back if it was in game once already for a while and just removed for a fix.
So I know it does in fact work, it was just buggy for people alt-tabbing which is something i never generally do in a game anyways.
And as said before, changing my windows resolution changes literally everything on my pc, so that is not a fix.
Apparently it was removed permanently. Direct X12 API support actually doesnât support full screen exclusively anymore, so there is no more need of it. Any issues you are currently having are either:
You are running an odd screen sized monitor.
You are running an odd resolution on your monitor instead of its native resolution.
You are using some odd graphic settings under the card driver.
Make sure you are using whatever the monitors native resolution. Meaning what it was designed to run at. If you need to change it to make say lettering and stuff bigger, use the scaling features in your desktop settings rather than changing the resolution.
If you are set to the native res, your aspect will be correct. THEN the game will follow the setting. Unless you are forcing an odd resolution or aspect with the driver.
If in doubt. reset your GPU driver settings to default. Reset your Windows screen settings to default. Restart your system. Try running the game again. If the game is fixed, youâre done. If its not, exit the game, go to Documents\Diablo IV\ Find the file called LocalPrefs. Remove it.
Restart Diablo IV. It should then re-load the default graphics settings for the game and you should be fixed.
