For the moment VoH will be DOA if they continue on this force grouping policy for the new content. I will not support a franchise that will not give solo players a benefit of a doubt to enjoy new content.
This is literally why I didn’t preorder. If I want to play in a group I’ll just play wow. I play Diablo as a game to chill and turn on music and murder monsters. All they are doing is killing their own game and it’s a shame because they are kind of going in the right direction. But forcing group play to partake in an aspect of the game you paid to play isn’t a good move imo. Luckily we have other games to play that don’t do this and you can enjoy every part of the game solo.
They would never go to the levels of lost ark. The most I saw was having to hit spells back at the boss at the same time. They know their audience is not good enough to do Lost Ark raids. I said it was like Lost Ark because it is a hybrid.
Diablo is a group game though in my view. There is nothing being forced here. You dont have to get the cosmetics. You only can get 1 scroll a week and only need it for bricked items. I dont see this being an issue unless there are uniques only in this mode and then that is a problem.
You have terrible logic. Forming a party of 4 is available to all players all the time since day 1.
Telling people they cannot play without grouping is literally forcing someone to group to do it.
I don’t see how it wouldn’t considering the Dark Cathedrals are end game meaning Tier IV or as you suggested, Tier V taking Tier IV’s place. Or maybe the Dark Cathedral is a Tier V unlock?

IF there are items you can only get in this mode I agree its a problem. IF not then there is no problem.
It’s a co-op dungeon thus why wouldn’t there be gear drops?
The real question is why do all these people on the forums give a damn if someone wants to do it solo, when you have a group finder if you’re a group andy you’ll be in a group every time you run it.
I mean exclusive gear drops. Drops you only get in this dungeon. That could be an issue. That would be forcing this on players.
Far as I know this dungeon drops new cosmetic currency and a scroll to reset tempers and its once a week. Seems ok there.
DIV is a MMO-lite game. They are favoring group play probably because their psychologists told them it increases retention. You know social networks and mobile games everyone hates but few leave, because “all my friends are there”.
Technically It wouldn’t be possible to run the Dark Cathedral solo as Blizzard have implemented it currently. It has ground levers meaning a player has to stand on on it to open the door. and separate hallways for two players on opposite ends.
My question is then, if it is true that it is just cosmetics then would there be whole sets you can unlock for a particular class and will they put some of the skin’s from the store in this co-op dungeon? Like as in the 2500 Plat ones? Normally those are the best looking.
Companion hotkeys go here, activate, click etc. Thousands of games have it. Novice level coding required.
Then on top of that, are the puzzles really going to brick a run? No, they sound pointless and annoying kinda like nightmare dungeons on release which people complained to get rid of. Pointless clickable interactive stuff which did nothing but slow down the runs cause backtracking and annoy people.
Blizzards AI for followers are not that good. Thus you wouldn’t be able to have a Merc or minion do it. At least not how they are currently implemented.
Not big on the environmental puzzle aspect myself however, assuming it is just for cosmetics case and the scroll then I would rather the group players have this and see how this goes and wait what the feedback is and see if there isn’t a change to it or a rework.
Were going back to the Kurast region so maybe we can get dungeons that can be solo able that are multi layered and where you have to fight bosses with huge arena centric rooms with a bunch of minions.
When solo you do 100% of the damage. When in a party of two you might only do 10% of the damage. That’s maybe generous for some builds. The power spectrum is very wide from character to character. I get that’s why there will be “twitch” mechanics, co-op puzzles each player must participate in that must be timed well. If you succeed in your part of the co-op puzzle but your party members keep failing it, there is no additional difficulty for those able to perform their part, imo. I can see doing this event with a friend could be fun but I can’t see it being fun with a stranger.
My main issue is not just based on what is dropping. Diablo is based on lore and this is the FIRST time EVER that bosses and part of the lore in the game is closed of based on number of players. Yes - there will be plenty of solo players that will never see this content and that is good for the game how? We know Blizzard is forcing players into this content for a reason. And they will continue to do this rather than give players freedom to play content on their own speed and terms. That’s what most FTP games do as well to get control over player behavior.
Acting like “just cosmetic is fine” still does not point out the big questions that players should be asking. Why is there now no longer PLAYER CHOICE to play Diablo content either as solo or in a group? Why is the developer forcing this on players instead of making both solo and group content in the game better and cosmetic content available for both playstyles? And why should players that are NOT going to be playing the group content pay same amount of money for this expansion and content, that for the first time in the history of the franchise - is locked behind number of players?
Even if there are only cosmetic rewards it’s a big issue to me because it’s a new activity that is one of the selling points of the expansion which is completely locked for solo players. Feels like a slap in the face tbh.
Also, the fact that they couldn’t or didn’t want to implement mercenary AI to be the player 2 is laughable at best
It’s probably more of an issue they couldn’t rework the AI of the mercenary characters and the minions in time for the release of the expansion. Doesn’t mean it can’t come later.

That is a fact.
I group with friend for fun but it is slower for us both because we are grouped. There is no synergy between classes. There is 100 percent hp per player which is unheard of in multiplayer games. Most you see is 50 percent. And those games usually have buffs and synergies between players far superior than d4.
Maybe try playing with people on your own level and quit thinking you actually doing something in those carry groups and you might learn a thing or two on how the game works.
