Not a post about getting or not getting the Cry of Ashava.
Hoping for objective discussion as to the scummy-ness or perfectly fine attention grabbing effort of putting a “fear of missing out” unobtainable item in a pre-release activity. I’m sure it’s not the only time, but usually people who either pay for beta access or are backers get a special something before release.
This was public and I don’t know if it’s a bad trend for gaming or if it’s no big deal. I know I was stressed after losing the first boss spawn that I might not get the trophy. Then I thought… damn them giving me fomo game anxiety and it’s not even out!
FOMO is a powerful, free tool they can use to fill the servers for their test. The pixels required for the mount trophy cost them nothing and give them a lot of data to work with at the same time.
Did I like the achievement being tied to a group effort with limited attempts? No, not really.
They had to encourage people to test the servers. Imo, without it. Very few would have actually done the world boss. Especially in the state we were in.
Also its a tiny little trophy you probably wont even use.
FOMO is stupid, it’s for weak minded people who can’t control themselves, it’s just a cosmetic, nobody will even care about it after a month. Literally a man children wanting a toy they can’t get or feel they have to get it at all cost just to forget about it month later. O have a 3yr old and he is behaving exactly the same. FOMO is for dummies.
FOMO is powerful and works way better than it should.
If I’m to understand this correctly, we all get access to a free battlepass during the season? That battlepass will include the power increase elements so there’s no p2w element in the premium battlepass and it will also include a currency you can use to get the next enhanced battlepass? The amount earnable in that will NOT be enough to buy the premum pass however (basic battlepass above free is 9.99, premium is 24.99 according to Rhykker). The premium Battlepass WILL be cosmetic only but you can bet your bottom dollar it will have limited and very cool looking skins etc. Skins people will want because customization is a thing and everyone wants to look cool and different. Since they cannot get that premium pass with what they earn within the game, FOMO will take over and you’ll see an increased level of sales for subsequent passes.
I could be wrong about the battlepasses though, correct me if I am.
FOMO is like a drug.
For a better breakdown on the Battlepass stuff, Rhykker has a good video on it.
I have to speculate that its a mix of both. The suggestion was probably brought up by someone that should know better. The green light was given by an executive type which tend to lack empathy and only think in terms of statistics and numbers.
I always thought FOMO is missing out on a thing or something to do…a goodie or an event. The Ashava event…while a lot might have found it fun, to me sounded like waste of time with the amount of failed threads. Couple that with the cosmetic reward (big whoop)…in this particular case I had no interest in a highly probable unenjoyable event OR the reward so…yea…no FOMO on this end.
FOMO is like people saying they reward isn’t even good but they do it anyways and struggle to get it because what if they change their mind later? What if the actual item is better than the preview?
Well, if they don’t get it now, they will NEVER get it. So they fear the missing out of it.
Anytime you see “available for limited time only” that’s FOMO. Can be a seasonal or one time event, anything in a cash shop they say will go away at the end of the time.
Disney was among the biggest and best at this when they’d say their movies all go into “a vault” and won’t be available again
Yes they do, it was not a “server slam” it was a marketing stunt for free cheap advertising. The problem is people playing for the first time felt the opposite of hype and were disappointed.
I think it’s unethical but I also get why they did it. Stress testing. They wanted as many people on as possible and to stay on. But now that that’s out of the way, they should be granting the item to anyone who max leveled.
