Five builds played, my feedback

I have tried 5 builds in the PTR:
1-Barb - Earthquake/Hammer build by Rob
2-Sorc - Ball Lightning Author, not sure
3- Necro - Spirit Wave by Rob
4- SpiritBorne - Quill Volley By Rob
5-Spiritborne - RazorWings by Rob
When I look at builds, I expect them to at least do a Tier 105. Why? Because this is what it would take to level up your glyphs to 100 within a season. I first tried the Barb build as I love Barb builds, but was truly disappointed in this. I could barely get beyond Tier 90. Next was the Sorceress build. This was my biggest disappointment, in that this build is ONLY suitable for Tier 4 and that is it. Totally useless build which is extremely underpowered. The I tried the SpiritWave build and wow, this one is definitely the winner and I am HOPING that this does not get nerfed as it is the only build which could do a Tier 100 efficiently. Then IU tried the Spiritborne builds. Both were very confusing and I am not sure if I did something wrong, because the build planner both had resolve stacks in the tempering which is not available, so I used armor to benefit unyielding. Both SB builds were nerfed to the ground and were REALLY bad. Not as bad as the sorceress build, but pretty close with quill volley being the better finishing a Pit Tier 85 in just under 15 minutes.
CONCLUSION - With the exception of the Necromancer, all classes really need to be given some more juice as right now, they are extremely underwhelming. For a build to be efficient, it should at least be able to do a 105 in 8 min or less. If you are doing a pit Tier 100 in 14-15 minutes, it will take you all season literally just to upgrade your glyphs.
SEASON MECHANICS - The season theme I found to be fun, but it is too much like season 2 and really wasnā€™t a WOW factor for me. I think that it will be fun to play for the first week, and then not so much any more. I think that if I had not played Season 2, then I would like it a lot more.
Please keep in mind that these are strictly my observations with builds that I tried and which were built by Content Creators. As for the Necro build, I have seen videos of Chinese players doing a Tier 150 in no time with this build, but I do not see how that is possible unless he was using some cheat mechanics, but I couldnā€™t come close.
My biggest fear is that they nerf the Necro build to fall in line with the other underwhelming builds INSTEAD of buffing some of the mechanics in the other builds to bring them up to speed.

I am early on with my Ball lightning build and I just finished Tier 50 - Torment 3 very easily. I think the not being able to go beyond Tier 4 must be a typo.

I do agree that the Sorceress should be more powerful, but I havenā€™t finished testing and havenā€™t had a chance to get into Torment 4 yet.

They want T4 to be ā€œaspirationalā€ and Iā€™m guessing the vast majority of players hit T1 and thatā€™s it. Personally I consider maxing out glyphs as part of finishing my character at least before S6.

One solution would be to boost glyph power as anything beyond 46 isnā€™t doing much compared to the scaling of the pits. For example if you are doing pit 80 with 46 glyphs then 80 glyphs should push you into the 90s. Where now it doesnā€™t seem like they add much (to be fair I havenā€™t really tested but I never really noticed any real gain after 46). Of course, the other option would be to scale down the pits up to 100, then increase over that.

I think SB will be at least a little better than 85. I did 85 in 7 minutes with my PTR character that I leveled from scratch without boosts. With better gear, tempers, masterworking, paragon, glyphs, etc I think at least 90 would be possible. Which is still disappointing. Maybe another 5 or 10 levels in there for someone who knows what they are doing.

Edit - Finally got +3 resolve on pants after bricking 6 pairs. Then somehow got a double on it master working. With that and some glyph leveling cleared 90 in 6 minutes. There is definitely some more min/maxing in there to get at least 95 but Iā€™m guessing 100 will be doable.

You should be doing 100 with np on barbie. Maybe rob had poe2 on his brain when he made the guide

I want to echo the OP: There should be at least 1, hopefully 2, S-tier builds in each class that can level up glyphs to 100 without having to be carried.

While weā€™re on the subject of glyphs, it should not take 10+ higher pit levels to assure 100% glyph upgrade success chance.

And, since the endgame involves leveling 5 glyphs for a total of 5 paragon boards, pits should aware 5ā€“not 3 or 4ā€“chances to level up a glyph.

And while Iā€™m at it, make an alternate way to level up glyphs besides just the pit. Itā€™s boring tbh.

Every single Primary Skill in every single class should be able to run Pit 100 efficiently with decent gear. BiS gear past that point then would be able to push close to or up to 150 with borrowed Seasonal Power Creep. That would be the perfect world.

No - itā€™s really not - maybe the new focusā€™ arenā€™t scaling properly but dps just isnā€™t there!

I have a BL build titled ā€œ2.1 PTR (S7) - SORC Ball Lightning/Familiarā€ published on Mobalytics right now. I hit a wall at 90. 85 was the last tier I could finish without a struggle, and the need for a boss with low HP.

It for sure does not qualify as a high tier pit build but it can go 20-25 tiers past T4 (65)

I have plans to replace Shako with Heir of perdition for more damage, but because of Okunā€™s in the focus slot it requires an amulet with a triple hit on GA CDR, a triple hit GA CDR on Rakā€™s boots, and a triple hit GA CDR Talrasha, in order to reach the CDR needed for ice armor uptime and Storm Swell.

I havenā€™t got these items yet ( ive been using GA non-phys instead since you can get away with it when you have Shako) but when I do Ill update the build with a PIT variant. I expect it to be able to at least get into the mid 90s. I have no expectation it will reach 100 though.

My one hope here is that I hear Shocking Impact, and the new focuses are not working as they should on PTR. If that is true and IF it is fixed then this build might do 100+

It may also be able to pick up some damage if i abandon the Sidhe gloves, but the gloves have primordial on them which allows me to pick up the mana gen without wasting points on a useless passive in the skill tree, plus i wanted to try something different :stuck_out_tongue:

Overall pretty disappointing for a build many expected to be Meta considering the new focusā€¦

Sorc is generally in a pretty sorry state with all of the nerfs in the past 2 seasons with very little in the way of compensation for lost damage. I get that they dont want FO/LS to be the only build people play on sorc, but i fear that ā€œAnother Classā€ may be the only sorc that people play if they donā€™t address this

i so wanted to try Druid because people seemd to think they might actually be decent, but every build i wanted to try seemed to be doing -191243293845293475869875 damage so i went with less obviously bugged things instead :stuck_out_tongue:

I can confirm that the Necromancer with darkness blood waves is insanely powerful. I created my own variant based on something I saw someone else post. It can one-hit nearly everything and is putting out trillions (with a t) of damage every couple seconds. Itā€™s really fun to play and super easy as all I do is hit my ultimate skill every few seconds - no need for anything else except for maybe a corpse tendrils if you want to kill stuff in tight space faster. I did clear a pit 150 with the build with almost no masterworking but there were a couple other people with me at the time, I still need to go back and clear it solo. The infernal hordes was the most fun, I did some tier 10 and just melted everything instantly. I hope it doesnā€™t get nerfed but I do feel bad/guilty with balance of power with other builds/class. I also tried a DoT Necromancer and it was near worthless in T4.

They seem to like having one completely broken build every season so this might be the S7 one.

Bro, from your description it sounds like it 100% needs a nerf.

You do realize that you basically just said ā€œThis build desperately needs to be nerfed - hope they donā€™t nerf itā€, right?

I hope they tone that down a bit but I hope it is still powerful and fun!

if you really want to play this in S7 you should be hoping for that too :stuck_out_tongue:

Take LS in S5 or SB in S6 as an example, if it hits live that strong every item for the build will be 99B gold on trade sites, you will see nothing but other people playing the same thing everywhere you go, and it will likely be nerfed into the ground never to be playable again in the following seasonā€¦

Good luckā€¦

Yeah, I know I said that. Iā€™m conflictedā€¦ I know it is over the top right now and am excited that Necro finally has a build like this but at the same time I know it is head and shoulders above almost every other one out there. Like you said, I hope they tone it done a little but that it remains powerful enough to take on 150 tier content when fully optimized.

No build in the game should be doing anything close to tier 150. Anything that is is clearly broken. This is a silly thing to be asking for. ā€œTone it down a littleā€ and ā€œtake on 150 tier contentā€ are fundamentally incompatible.

iā€™m inclined to agree. i think with the pit tuned as it is currently all classes should be tuned to be able to reach 100, maybe 120-125ish should be the upper bounds for a well build char with a skilled player, 125-130ish is kind of yellow zone where either this thing is played by the best player ever and has the absolute best possible gear and skill setup that you can achieve, or something is not quite right, 150 should be a huge red flag that the class is broken or there is an exploit at play.

If they were to tune pit down a little and push max back out to 200 obviously those numbers would all need to scale up a bit

@HEX I disagree.

Any well built build fully masterworked properly with the correct gear SHOULD be able to push to close to 150. My opinion of course.

If builds were able to complete tier 150, it would severely trivialize all of the other content in the game. You shouldnā€™t have to use your imagination too much on this one since we just had an entire season of everyone trivializing the content and then getting bored and leaving because it was too easy.

And then they would just have to add 50 more tiers to the Pit because the whole point of it is to have content that scales beyond the reach of any build so that no matter how high you get your damage, you have something to test it against.

You just donā€™t understand the Pitā€™s purpose.
