Fireball Build - tips, synergy, tricks?

I’ve been playing a Sorcerer for season one, and for the most part it’s been enjoyable.

That changed once I got into WT4, and I kind of expected that. That said, I’m really struggling to survive and do enough burst to kill things (especially elite packs) while having enough crowd control before they just completely overwhelm me.

I really love fire, and am bound and determined to make it work. For the most part, I’ve been using fire skills exclusively along the way to my current level 66.

So, what fireball builds are people using that have had success with it? I’m not looking for an exact template or to hold my hand, just some general direction. Because as it stands right now, I feel lost and frustrated with my sense of direction - other than I know I want to be a Fire Sorc (long term), taking this character to 100.

I’ve been unlucky so far in getting the fireball unique weapon, but I hope that changes (I got an Oculus). So as a fireball spec, what kind of stats should I be concentrated on most: fire damage, crit and crit damage? I know that DoT’s cannot crit. I have skipped vulnerable so far, because I haven’t specced anything for it.

Anyway, I would appreciate any and all advice that someone could give me, and just a general sense of correcting compass in shooting for (pun intended) for a viable fireball build. I’m not looking to push nightmare dungeons, just a fireball build I can farm helltide, whispers, and lower nightmare dungeons with on way to 100.

Thank you in advance!

Try equipping that Wrathful heart that makes minions immune and then explode. It works really well with my ice build, and I am pushing packs of 20 elites 10+ levels above. I think all those hearts are kinda OP. Try which one suits your play style!

That’s cool, I’m glad you’re having success. As for me, I want to be almost strictly FIRE and Fire skills, revolving around fireball.

Just looking for general advice in that area: synergies that work, passives, aspects, the top three affixes to look for, and the most efficient way to go about doing it.

Up to now, I have been using fire bolt, incinerate, flame shield, teleport, firewall, and inferno. If things aren’t immobilized, then it’s a dance of death and running around kiting mobs. It hasn’t been pleasant or fun lately, hence making a post.

Thanks though :slightly_smiling_face:

Are you using any specific heart atm? I believe that the immune-explode heart works for any build. Season one seems to revolve around equipping the right Wrathful heart. I’d focus on finding the one that fits your current build, and tweak it from there.

Yes.

I’m using caged heart of creeping death (wrathful), caged heart of determination (devious), and caged heart of revenge (brutal).

I’m running a Fireball build that plays off of the synergy between Inferno (no mana cost), Aspect of the Ancient Flame (attack speed buff when killing with a crit), and Elementalist Aspect (crit buff when at full mana). You make sure to have >100 mana and then pop Inferno and spam free Fireballs. Once a trash mob dies from a crit you end up with really high crit chance and really high attack speed and can machine gun fireballs. It prett easily kills off elite packs 10+ levels above me so far but no idea if it will work in the very late game against much higher NM dungeons.

I made a more detailed post about it here:

Thanks, crd!

Yeah, that was kinda what I was going for and looking to do. I also tried meteor, but found it kind of slow for my liking.

Are you using the Staff of Endless Rage? I haven’t been able to get one to drop yet.

I have Endless Rage but I’m not actually using it right now… I stupidly put the Ancient Flame aspect on a 2H staff (before Endless Rage dropped) and haven’t gotten that aspect to drop again so now I have to choose between Endless Rage and Ancient Flame. I think Ancient Flame is a bit more central to really taking advantage of Inferno so for now it wins out. But as soon as I get Ancient Flame to drop and I can put it on a ring or amulet then Endless Rage is getting used because I want my extra Fireballs!

Don’t feel too bad, I deconstructed an ancient flame mistakenly after going through a glut of legendaries.

Never again :slightly_frowning_face:

I just got Gloves of the Illuminator (Fireballs bounce and explode multiple times for less damage) and boy are they disappointing. Like straight up worse than the normal Fireball ability!

They are getting buffed in the next patch but I’m not sure it’s enough. The new version will probably make the fireballs better than normal fireball but you’re also losing an aspect for it… we’ll see. But if you’re sticking to a fireball build I wouldn’t worry too much about getting those unique gloves to drop- definitely not build defining as far as I can see.

Sure are a lot of masochists in the sorc community.

Yeah, I want nothing to do with those gloves. Reminds me of Super Mario.

Maybe they made them for the meme? I don’t know about anyone else, but when I think Fireball…a big, fiery ball of death blazing through the air comes to mind. Not the little rinky-dink pebbles of sparks.

fireball doesn’t really have synergies to get enough mana. all the good sorc builds are centered around having nearly endless mana.
