I was under the impression that they wanted to support D4 for like 10 years and may even like 5 expansions or so. Now…after the quality of VoH, I’m not so sure that will happen. But I think I remember they wanted to support this for a long time. I mean, Blizzard is in things for the long haul usually. They only pack up shop if it’s something that really tanked/unfixable. Even so, I guess 3 expansions would be the worst scenario. But seeing as how much story potential is still on the table, I can see more than 3 expansions.
They need to make a more complete expansion experience though. VoH wasn’t it. I mean, Imagine one of the prime evils going out in an expansion like VoH and getting killed off? Very little interaction with them, very little characterization, you just show up and kill them at the end. I mean I really liked the story presentation of the base game. I think Lilith was done all kinds of justice and is one of their better antagonists they’ve made in some time. A home run I’d say. VoH was just like this side adventure thing. Not very cinematic really, and severely lacking in feeling like an actual serious threat was going on within the game’s story. Just some jungle adventure to save Nayrelle. They need to do better than that with future expansions.
Players might want those expansions, devs might want to make those expansions, but if the VOH sales were off (no idea how it performed, the vanilla game broke records) shareholders will back off faster than light, d3’s 2nd exp was scrapped too.
Blizzard doesn’t release numbers. The only numbers we see are how many players are playing on steam, but steam players are only a tiny percentage of the playerbase. They don’t release data for player counts and cosmetic shop sales or game sales. That guy a few months back claiming the Diablo 4 grossed a billion dollars had no evidence to back up what he was saying. We don’t know how many players bought the VoH expansion. I am sure the number is less than the base game, but the majority of remaining players who came back for seasons four and five bought it and the majority of them bought the ultimate edition for sure. Blizzard likely made their money for VoH during the pre order, and made even more for the cosmetics shop and battle pass so I doubt. VoH likely didn’t sell as much as many copies of the base game but VoH was also far cheaper to make. The second expansion has been in development so we will likely see Blizzard try to fix the game between now and then to earn back some of the players they lost. There is a phenomenon where players who quit the game during launch would come back post season 4. I can see if the game keeps getting better then players will keep coming back and there will be enough of them to keep the game going for years. When PoE was years in its live service it didn’t even have 10% of D4 players. Players come and go. If the game gets fixed they will come, if not they will leave.
D4 as made over a billion so far. I doubt they are ready to just give up on it.
My guess is if the VOH numbers were bad we will see a new director and the game moving a different direction. Which would likely result in a delay of the 2nd expansion as that new direction was implemented.
At this point does anyone have hope for a new xpac? VoH was pretty terrible over all, I guess maybe mephisto will finally be a boss tho. Diablo incoming in 4 years
How can you say in the same statement that they don’t release numbers but steam only accounts for a tiny portion of the player base? How do you know? I play on bnet and my 200+ friends list has 0 people playing it
I never took his “annual” seriously in the first place. Biannual, maybe. But software development takes time, and a year doesn’t cut it to deliver actual meaningful content updates (like RoS or VoH or LoD). Dislike them if you wish, but all vastly changed their base games.
I think we’ll get 1 - 2 more Expansions. 1 for Mephisto, 1 for Diablo. Possibly a M/D combo.
A battlemage? Maybe some paladijn went to the sorc area and learned more type of magic . Maybe a dark knight is a type of battlemage . So a battlemage can be chosen as a light or dark themed. Look badass to me.
I predict it will contain the bare minimum to pretend to justify their premium price. Probably 1 class, completely underwhelming in power so as not to repeat the Spiritborn issues. Sets will make an appearance. 1 new act with another cliffhanger but underwhelming story. Another forced multiplayer experience. Done.
why else would i be posting still if i wasnt a fan of diablo? your making no sense. and you already knew that… then what was the point in your original post? mental gymnastics? i think you might be slipping a little bit, maybe go get tested for alzheimer’s
Paladin orders can be stationed anywhere the cause requires… wherever the church establishes a mission, the Paladins are expected to have a footprint, at least generally.
Idk about this “Crusader” you speak of. Sounds heretical & iffy.
