There’s a game that’s better than Diablo 4, and it’s called Diablo 2 Resurrected.
D2R is a masterpiece of a game. It has many aspects and many considerations that makes it a fun and enjoyable game for years to come. I really wish D4 would emulate the greatness that is found within D2R. D4 has great potential and could be a much better game if only it would borrow upon the core fundamental game mechanics that makes D2R/D2LOD such a great game.
I’ve gotten bored with D4 because the endgame and flawed itemization is lackluster. The D4 campaign and cut scenes are awesome. Item wise D4 is not finished and feels more like a beta test and not a polished game.
If you haven’t played D2R I recommend buying it and playing it.
D3 is not a very good game and in every regard D2R is superior to D3.
Agreed. D2s itemization compared to d4 is a masterpiece.
D4 loot based arpg with horrible loot/itemization system.
Yo I literally went back and played a little just today and was thinking about how much better and more exciting the entire loot system is in D2.
Sad they can’t improve it after 20 years. In fact all they did was make it worse with each installment.
Paying full price for a game that was released 20 years ago and is exactly the same as before… No thanks. D2 was fun when there was almost no other game to play, spent so many hours on the game, but the game is old, no fun anymore, already killed Mephisto 1000x times.
D4 is a great game, played Sorc to lvl 100 and will continue to play on Season with a new class.
Sure some aspects of D2 were awesome and could be replicated in D4. But i cannot say it is a good game today. At least not for me.
thats the whole point. why not copy pasting the good aspects of d2, then add something like gr’s from d3. whole source code sittin in their database for years
20 years from now, if both D4 and D2R were both kept in the same exact developmental state that they both currently exist in, I would still say that D2R is a superior game to D4.
D4 is fundamentally flawed in core itemization, the itemization is severely lacking in creativity. They’ve had ten years to add Set items and Runewords into the game and they don’t have them on launch? That’s low quality.
Perfect, it is your opinion. But i still prefer D4 over D2. but in 20years, i would be probably playing another new ARPG
That’s a fact, that they don’t have sets and runewords. That’s not my opinion.
Agreed, However I mastered D2 Years ago and have played many many ladders on LOD and D2R. New D2R seasonal updates are lackluster imo and im ready for something new, even if its not as good as d2.
I played D2R for 2 acts today and exciting upgrades were +7 mana or +3 to Teeth. I’ve never seen a rare or unique in 20 years that had stats that were much more advanced than that. Remember to polish your rose tinted goggles.
You must not be very good at D2R, if I played two entire Acts I would have found another high rune, several mid runes, probably a hand full of uniques and sets. Small charms, grand charms, runeword bases, flawless gems for crafting…
If you can only find +7 mana or +3 to teeth you genuinely are a complete newbie in D2R and have no idea how to play the game.
Itemization is irrelevant if combat, aka the farming process, is boring.
I loved D2 when it was released two decades ago, but it’s not up to today’s standards as far as combat is concerned.
Combat is irrelevant if loot/reward cycle is boring.
Well you do you.
Endure the boring combat and revel in the rare great loots every few days if you’re lucky, but I don’t want to.
I don’t want D4 to be like D2r, or like POE, or like D3
I want it to be it’s own thing with good original ideas and it to go in its own direction.
Is it currently great? Nope. But if they are smart it will improve. If it doesn’t then it will die.
But making it like past ARPGs is dumb because fans of those games can just go play those games instead of making another clone of those games.
That’s the problem, D4 has very few ideas that are original. Most of it just copies ideas from D3, D3 isn’t a very good game. Critically acclaimed D2R/D2LOD are vastly superior.
If it isn’t broken then don’t try to fix it. D2 itemization works very well, even if the combat is lacking. Why on earth D4 developers decided to forgo the well thought out process of D2 itemization and create a flawed system of their own instead of borrowing from what works is anybody’s guess.
That’s the thing, if D2 is a perfect game already, then what’s the point of making another clone when you can just play that perfect game that already exists?
I want a new experience not to play the same thing with a new coat of paint.
shakogate 2023 - never forget, never forgive.
just a friendly reminder
d2 isn’t a perfect game, it was an incredible game but not perfect and it’s 20 years old. That’s the point of having a great old game, when the next game in the series comes out, you hope they take what was great in the predecessor and simply improve it, to make each follow up better and better without losing the soul of what made it great to begin with.
Instead with d3, they changed instead of improving, that was the tragedy for many people, you can’t just say go play d2 forever, people justifiably want the follow up that we got denied all those years ago when d3 launched with completely new direction, when people wanted a proper d2 follow up instead. We still want it, because you can’t play a game for 20 years straight no matter how good it was, you need a proper follow up at some point.
As someone who never played Diablo 2, I went through and played D2R. I see why people like it, but the campaign was weak, and the only replayability seemed to be to do the campaign again.
I definitely find D4 to be more interesting.
The runeword system feels very clunky, and requires a guide on how to even use them effectively.
