I’m having a similar problem. I can log in and play, but it keeps crashing after the new expansion.

I thought it was me so I reset my entire computer, reinstalled windows, everything. Only thing on the computer is Diablo and it crashes mostly before character creator, rarely I make it in game and it crashes immediately.

yup, crashing every 5 minutes it seems, not a fun friday night so far

Personally? No. Have not had an issue with the game yet on my machine. Plays just fine.

On here with all of you? Yes. But I try to give some suggestions as best I can. Right now, the short list of things that have worked for some of you:

  • Using earlier video drivers (even if the game doesn’t like it)
  • Setting up a fixed size virtual swap file (I have posts about this on a few threads)
  • disabling direct storage (using the additional arguments for Diablo IV: -disableds)

Those are the key things that work for some.

Interesting, since I don’t use that setting on my card, but mine is working fine. Mine is currently set to Normal. Not Prefer Maximum Performance. No issues.

More likely something with the driver update in general broke things. One reason I haven’t updated mine. I don’t care if the game says its outdated. I’m using it anyway since it works.

What version am I using?

551.31. From January, the release driver for the 4080S.

crazy all these crashes & blizz have done sweet FA about it lol

piss poor form for a game of this size and company. Game isnt even a week old yet & its completely cooking peoples PCs

I am having an issue where I am crashing to where my computer actually resets itself and that has never happened untill this expansion.

Hello, I have a question. Why diablo 4,3,2 don’t work without internet?

because the “world” of the game is on server side, not on client. also, this make sure you bought a game, not pirated it

on other platform games work without internet, steam games work.

DTMAce, you are the man. I have had nonstop crashing for weeks and tried everything. The command line -disableds let me play for an hour. What is it and is there a list somewhere of all the others? Google seems stumped

thanks again!

Well, it disables Direct Storage for the game. DS allows game to directly talk to the drive, rather than via the OS. But for some and in only some cases, this causes issues. We used to have to delete the Direct Storage files in the game folder prior to every launch of the game, but with this command that is no longer needed.

There are other commands that are known, you can find them here under the battlenet section for command lines in my as yet incomplete tech thread (one of these days I need to finish compiling this):

Well, I spoke too soon. Crashes after a while, but I can get like 2 or 3 pit runs sometimes before it crashes.

Weird observation: if the game crashes, it frequently does the fenrir thing and then within about 30 sec hard crashes the system forcing a reboot. After reboot, I frequently notice a small graphics glitch momentarily during boot. Once in windows, the graphics card sometimes crashes, even though I havent started the game yet. Its like the graphics crash is persisting thru restart. Sometimes shutting down and waiting a few min helps, but not always. I dont think its hardware, my gpu worked fine until the xpac and my rig passes the Heaven stress test fine. GPU temps are ~60 so nothing crazy.

is your Windows 11 version 24H2?

no its 23H2, odd, I thought windows updated itself

I would not be in a rush to upgrade to 24H2 personally. So far my desktop hasn’t but my laptop has.
