Hello all, update on my end. Had a 2hr phone call troubleshoot with a very chill tech. after all fix attempts in the end yielded no change to the crash to desktop without an error result below it was other tech support sent me and my response to that.
Looking over your case it seems that we have pretty much covered everything that is in our scope of support. Multiple BSOD errors, LiveKernelEven errors, crashes on Nvidia Control Panel and Intel GPU software together with the errors we see in the FenrisDebug file indicate that this could be a hardware problem, which would be out of our scope of support.
As last resort we can try reinstalling Windows. This can potentially help if this is some weird configuration problem or OS corruption that System File Checker didn’t detect, which can happen sometimes. If issue persists after that then we would suggest contacting a local qualified technician or repair center for further troubleshooting.
Thanks again for your time and patience. Take care, and let us know if you have any further questions.
I completely reinstalled windows and removed all my programs, starting from scratch, reloaded battle.net left everything default, booted up d3 played for 30min blasting rifts and GR not one fault or stutter, booted up d4 clicked on charc. select froze for 4 seconds crashed to desktop, second attempt loaded character into world for 2 seconds froze for 5sec crashed to desktop, third log in attempt loaded character into world clicked on map froze for 5sec crashed to desktop. Again, I don’t know how this can be a hardware issue for 1 specific game where everything else works and runs, and others are experiencing the exact same concerns all occurring immediately after a game patch. Could this not be an overlooked game code that was issued into the game on patch 1.0.3 and has been left in every patch since?
Disable Re-Size BAR in your BIOS. It’s a technology that gives your CPU more access to your GPU’s frame buffer. It enhances performance, but apparently it reduces stability, as in the case of XMP.
Anyway, I’ve seen so many false fixes for the constant crashing problem at this point that I can’t confidently say it’s really solved, yet. I can only say that I used to crash almost instantly upon doing anything (opening a menu, talking to a vendor, trying to port somewhere) and I’ve not had a single crash since implementing this change in the BIOS earlier this afternoon.
This was done on an ASUS motherboard with default settings loaded, then disabling Re-Size BAR.
I have the same issue and it actually became unplayable after the patch 1.1.1 hotfix. Idk what they did with hotfix but i can’t do more than 1 dungeon without the game crash.
Well guys I heard what you all said so I bit the bullet and purchased a new state of the art system to test out whether it could be a hardware issue as Hihoshi said he was told by tech support. I got it game ready and plunged in and it was doing the same things as my other new pc was doing. When I panned over loot items it did not show their properties as was happening since 1.1.1. on many items. When I tried to transport out of dungeons network disconnects happened over and over. At times I can’t pick up coin or items also and my Barb gets uncontrollable and starts rubberbanding. So its definitly not a hardware issue. We are all experiencing the same type issues after the new patch!
I think the game is unstable or the servers get overloaded but its definitly out of our control. For me it comes and goes at different hours which tells me that I’m catching the servers at a good time and then within a couple of hours it starts up again. On weekends when there is the most traffic is when it seems to be the worst.
So I say that if they are trying to pass the buck then they will eventually lose business when we don’t keep purchasing battle passes for new seasons. I think they will come to their senses and try to fix these issues because their business is going to suffer if they don’t.
I also went back to playing D3 because it has no issues…
Same with me. Before this patch 1.1.1, i have had no game crashes.
after patch 1.1.1, my game locks up, but i can still go to desktop and everything else works. just the game is frozen, and i can still hear some sound.
it happens to me alot during legion or world events, for example, teleporting to town after legion event is done , the game froze, so i had to open task manager and end task.
happend to me during world event waiting for boss to spawn, i go in inventory and open abilities, then screen froze .
during helltide, i finished event, had to go to town to sell, and screen froze as i was teleporting back to town.
this started happening after patch 1.1.1, and has NEVER happened before. so far games froze on me like 5 or 6 times so far.
i have also noticed that since patch 1.1.1 the D4 client crashes way more, and i got the Fenris error notification. i have tried the last 3 nvidia drivers but this didn’t solve the crashes. what seems to work for me is to disable v-sync in the D4 client and enabled it in the Geforce control panel for the D4 client. so far no crashes, but i need to test this more.
I don’t have vsync (triple buffering) working in Baldurs Gate 3, but double buffering works. Maybe the problem is not in the game, but in the driver.
In any case you shouldn’t have problems even with vsync not working. And if there is one, the problem is most likely due to unstable operation of the system under heavy load.
Thanks for posting this friend, hell of steps to go through. Im still working with their support team so will keep posting updates as we go. add me on net for some d3 in the future Hihoshi #1383.
Update, performed the recommended following with no change on my end but want to show as it might help someone else. My system passed all 4 memtest with no faults found, I will be getting another tech supp. call from them.
Right click your desktop
Select Nvidia Control Panel
Open Help and toggle on “Debug Mode” (it’ll checkmark the option.)*
*Note: if this is grayed out, you don’t have a factory overclock. You can skip this step in that case.
The second option you want to run a RAM scan there is a third party application called Memtest86
Following up on my post here, I’ve played for many hours at this point with zero crashes, and I believe the change I discuss in the above post is the only thing I did.
That said, I am never surprised to see crashes re-appear after I or someone else has found “a fix” so I’m not going to guarantee perfect results. That said, I went from almost instantly crashing, guaranteed, to not having a single crash since making this BIOS change. Your mileage can and will vary, but hopefully this helps somebody.
Whether this works for you or not, remember: they always find a way to break stability fixes every time they release a patch, so enjoy it while it lasts. We’ll be looking again for new fixes in no time. Count on them to break their game further in the next patch.
Thanks Vand. I did try this the other day after you had posted as I have Asus as well but I continue to crash at launch or charc. select. Hopefully this does help others though.
Recently did a test as I have a high spec PC and crash after 15-20 min, I went onto Hardcore in eternal (as no one is there) game ran smoothly for an entire day with 0 crashes.
I think the issue is mainly server related, pop size and especially in the large towns, I will normally crash after seeing the occultist all this started happening just prior to the 1.1.1 fix where I believe they snuck in a “hot fix” but didn’t post information about it, as they were getting the servers prepped for 1.1.1.
It would be nice to have some of the Devs respond to this thread!
