Computer Sounds Like it's Going to Lift-Off

System Information:
i7-10700KF stock clock settings
32 GB RAM 3200
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 w/ 10 GB VRAM

GPU temperature:
Hovers around 73 Celsius while in combat.
Hovers around 68 Celsius idling.
Ramps up to 80 Celsius if I open my Inventory tab.

Edit: The issue is only happening with the Inventory window open. Not during any other time.

Can someone explain to me what’s going on?

I also posted this in Tech Support, but wanted to see if any of you had similar issues or had work arounds.

3070ti and relatively low settings but yeah it bounces from jet engine to nothing randomly and dont know why.

It’s specifically if I open inventory and leave it open for 5+ seconds. The fans ramp up very loud and temps rise.

Edit: I dropped my Max FPS to 120 and it will bounce between 77-78, but it’s still stupid that a 3080 cant regulate temps on a 1080p resolution at 145.

Turn off reflex in graphics settings. Although that only affects steady state temps.

No clue what’s going on with inventory GPU load increases.

It’s not that. Something else is happening.

Maybe something with the 3D player model rendering?

The 3080’s have had problems with overheating when presented with uncapped framerates

Yeah my computer is overheating too.

If you actually read it you would see that the framerates are capped.

And you said it helped. Shocking. Almost like I was telling you why.

Pretty shocked that a 3080 is having any kind of heat issues at 1080p…

What’s airflow like in your case?

It was already capped at 145 then reduced to 120.

Almost like you can’t read. Shocking. It was never uncapped.

Airflow is good and dusted recently. Issue only happens when Inventory Window is open.

To anyone posting here wondering why their computer might sound like a jet engine…remember it might not be a hardware issue but an cooling and/or airflow issue. That’s what mine was doing. You might have very good GPUs and CPUs but if they aren’t getting cooled properly, that’s an issue.

I would say that’s likely it, if it was ramping up in temps and fan speed during long sessions or large enounters with many spell effects going on.

Yet, it’s only happening while standing still idle (in town, out of town, in dungeons) with inventory window open and only with inventory window open.

Sounds like your PC components are increasing in temperature based on the workload they have.

You mean standing still idle with my Inventory window open is more workload than large multi pack enounters and spell effects, particle effects, and moving shadows?

The 3080 is just really power inefficient and runs really hot as a result. More performance = higher power draw = more heat = more cooling and faster fan speeds required.

If you really are just playing on medium and 1080p it might be the airflow in your case or your GPU is drawing way more power than it needs to. Might be worth checking some settings or stress testing it.

Yes. Alot of games have processor intensive menus especially when those menus are displaying a database.

Then the CPU would be overheating. Doesn’t explain GPU temps ramping up 10 degrees Celsius more than actual fighting and moving around.

There’s obviously an issue with the temp going up when the inventory is opened, hopefully blizz address it
