Tl:Dr - I vote for on time. Read the rest at your leisure or not at all if you prefer.
Let’s go with some objectivity and hypotheticals.
PTR just stopped Tuesday Morning. They’ve been reading over feedback the entire week we’ve been playing along with monitoring data. I would say the majority of the main issues people had during the PTR were made public before the weekend even hit. Not to mention their own list of known issues that was in the PTR forum sticky, there was in fact some overlap.
So give another week for them to consolidate all the data, lay it out on the table, have a big meeting and hash out some details. So by roughly mid-next week they’ll probably get started on some of the bigger changes. I imagine they’re already working on bugs and known issues right now. Obviously they’re not sitting around for this huge report of data and feedback to come in, they’re actively working.
Ignoring the bugs and obvious issues Blizzard has noted themselves, we can conclude the following:
- Numbers need to be changed
- Interactions of items and skills need to be changed
- Systems may need to be tweaked
- UI, tooltips, and other visuals need to be changed
Making a big assumption here, but I would venture a guess the numbers, tooltips, and visuals would be fairly easy to manage and are probably being worked on as we speak. I would also take a guess that UI changes and functionality, interactions of items and skills, and system tweaks would take considerably more time.
There’s hundreds of suggestion posts in the PTR and honestly it’s great to see. I’d say the majority actually like the changes being made, we just need some obvious tweaks. So once they hash out the details they can start to get to work on our feedback.
So you figure roughly a month to get everything done. Is it possible? I think so personally. They’ve come this far with a basic prototype that’s been in the works for about over 6 months now.
Do I expect S4 to be bug free on launch? Not by a long shot, but I’m not so petty to think they wouldn’t have made any improvements by then.
I do expect it to be in a working state though for the systems they are introducing. Bugs and balancing can come later in my opinion, as long as the new systems work as close to flawlessly as they can I’m good.
I will put my vote to on time, but I wouldn’t have any issues if they decided they needed more time to work on it either. I’ll be disappointed sure, but I would rather they take the time they need to fix things than rush it out the door.
