I think if there is ever an expansion into Mt. Arreat, we should gain access to a colluseum that allows for clan v clan battles or even for pvp challenges. Maybe throw in an betting mechanic where you can bet items and the winner takes the loot home. Let there be an algorithm that measures and matches the values and quality of the loot as well to enhance and incentivize the players to participate. Hopefully we get something like this sooner than an expansion, but I could see it fitting the theme.
Do uh… do you mean “colosseum”?
Also, there’s a similar feature already in Diablo Immortal, might wanna go play that, because basically nobody cares about PvP in D4, or any ARPGs for that matter.
Can technically do this now within the game. Just get two clans together that want to PvP and go to one of the PvP zones in WT1 where no one goes.
You all can pool up items you’ve collected, and just have fun. If you wait for Blizzard to implement this into the game you’ll be long gone with your grand kids waiting for it.
Yes, lol that is what I meant. Not everyone is you, I play in the pvp fields all the time. When you get tired of the Pits or soon to be hordes Ill probably see you there I have been playing diablo games for almost 30 years, Including immortal not interested in going back thankyou for the suggestion though.
Mine, and a couple other clans currently do that but it is all organized outside of the game, Im talking about something more official and leaderboard like.
No, not everyone is me, and honestly, the world is better for it, but lets get back to D4 here.
Numbers show that PvP isn’t something that the vast majority of ARPG players, and more specifically D4 players, give a damn about. You won’t see most people in PvP zones except to tick a seasonal box, or the occasional whisper. I do them on occasion and almost never see another player there. Never once been attacked when purifying shards for cosmetics either, because PvP has been dead since day 1 of release.
But hey, I’m glad you and the other 7 people who care about PvP are having fun. I just hope Blizz doesn’t allocate resources to something that only a handful of people want.
Pvp is a messy toilet best not to make a Colosseum out of it.
You could suggest something alternate instead of crapping all over other peoples ideas. Maybe if you did, pvp wouldn’t be as terrible as you make it out to be. Im just trying to make things better with any suggestion I can.
I agree, tying seasonal things to the pvp areas is not a good idea by the way. But I view the pits and the hordes how you probably view the pvp aspect of the game, a hott mess that could use some work.
Also, your making those statistics up, there are plenty of pvp streamers on both twitch and youtube that stream for pvp purposes. Just because you havent searched for them, doesn’t mean they dont stream every night killing eachother and helping other players get better in the pvp areas.
Cool story, bro. Facts are facts; pvp is the unloved stepchild of the game, and there might be one particularly persistent intern at Blizz that made it come to the game, but it’s not a good fit for ARPGs.
Wanna be mad at someone? Be mad at that intern
Your feelings arent fact. your making up metrics and assuming everyone shares your opinion. Thankyou for your post, go troll somewhere else please if you do not have anything constructive to add besides “D4 bad”.
You mean like the way you think we’ll all end up in Fields of Hatred when we tire of our PVE content? You won’t see anyone who responded to you because Dante accurately described how we feel about PVP… complete disinterest.
I did spend time in Fields of Hatred… when it was quiet and I could farm dust without interruption. I got all the cosmetics. I used to go back and kill the abomination for whispers, but when my PS+ renewal came around I didn’t renew. Now Fields of Hatred is a normal PVE zone for me.
Im not certain I understand what you
and Dante are saying, you are unhappy with the fields of hatred, but you guys also DONT want to see it change and become something either of you could enjoy? So therefore you both dont have suggestions, just reasons for not changing anything about it?
Or is it that, niether of you two play anything pvp related so you dont want the people that DO enjoy it to see it become better?
Please help me understand because I would like it to grow with the game just like, Im sure you two would like to see aspects you both like do the same.
No no. We’re not telling you what we want. We’re explaining why it won’t change. Large majority disinterest in PVP. Blizzard never even talks about it. If the data showed that a significant number of people were engaging with PVP content against other players, then Blizzard would be talking about the dissatisfaction they hear about it.
I don’t care what happens with PVP because it won’t affect me. They can amp it up all day. They’re not going to though, unless a massive chorus of voices starts getting their attention.
MAYBE if they ever figure out how to balance PVE and finally create a solid endgame, then they might turn their eye to the forgotten stepchild that is PVP.
In the colosseum,
Barbarians stand unmatched—
Strength conquers all foes.
Ohhh okay, I understand now. Thankyou for clarifying my mistake
Yeah, that does stand as an ongoing issue but barbs being barbs shouldnt hold us back from making the game better, just means the balance team sucks lol. But I will just keep making suggestions, maybe one will stick, never know!
True we can do most of this ourselves, and largely I would like it to be community ran. However a structure or match making system would be nice, a colusseum would just be more of a location everyone can go to begin the match making and provide for a map that everyone can teleport too to play on. Even allowing for raid style play where you have multiple teams of players buffing and debuffing eachother as opposed to your party vs their party play would be fun.
That is all I am getting at, I remember Adam Jackson talking about it on DM’s interview. They were discussing the addition of new pvp content and he said “well, what would you like to see?” I take that as an open invitation for suggestions.
Nah, D4 isn’t bad, PVP in ARPGs is bad, hence why most don’t put any real focus on it, and many omit it entirely; it’s an inherently flawed feature that doesn’t mesh well with the genre. While you are surprisingly correct in that my feelings aren’t fact, popular opinion and what devs focus on speaks much louder than whatever feelings you may have on the subject.
A well made case in point. If it was popular, or even desired by a noticeable amount of players, companies would focus on it because they’d have money to make / lose, and with D4 specifically, you’d see patch notes around PvP, or discussions about it in campfires; but you don’t, because PvP in ARPGs is, by popular opinion, garbage, and not worth the time investment or resources.
I think I am starting to understand your point now Dante, thankyou for explaining. Essentially you are saying there is no money there so why bother waste the time and effort. The truth is, we wont really know unless they try, an implementation of a leaderboard would be relatively easy and tell us exactly how many people actually participate in pvp for starters though. I have a feeling there are more players than you may realize, be that as it may.
I can appreciate your honesty with that point, I just feel like we will never find out UNLESS they make it worth doing. As it currently stands, I can completely get why people such as yourself wouldnt want to participate in pvp, in arpg’s. But there is no reason we couldnt help them turn it into something that is worth it since we have it. Humor me for a minute if you may, what would they have to reasonably do, to get you atleast to be somewhat interested in the pvp area? Even if you have no intention what so ever as of this moment, what could atleast temporarily interest you in it in the future?
Ever heard of the phrase “if you build it, they will come”? well I am here in this pvp area, I have suggestions for more content, and Im certain others do to lol.
They’d have to make it mechanically complex, with reaction based combat, and balanced entirely separate from the PvE stats; something akin to successfully done PvP engagements like Elden Ring, Mortal Kombat, or even WoW’s systems comes to mind. However, that kind of thing just isn’t possible in an ARPG format, as it doesn’t lend itself well to mechanical complexity, or reaction based combat. They could introduce zone based stat augmentation, but then they’d have to remove all monsters, or tune them differently as well; all of which would require a lot of company resources on something that most players have shown total disinterest in.
HOWEVER, lets entertain the point and say that some magic button made those things possible. My only real interest in it would be seeing how the mechanics differ from those of the majority of the game, and seeing what of those mechanics could be used to make the rest of the game better.
The reason for this? I’m not huge on competitive games. I’ll engage with them when the game as a whole outweighs the negatives of potential PvP interaction (See: Elden Ring), but if given the option, I’ll opt out of competitions every time. Just not the kind of person I am.
He did. The alternative suggestion is focusing on a better PvE experience.
Shivera, He said more than that, and I appreciate and agree with the suggestions Dante has added too! I would only add, maybe a bot system work work well in addition in case you find no one is available for match making or dont want to compete against anyone.
But that is niether here nor there, this post was solely for pvp ideas. There are other topics that discuss the current state of the PvE environment, This is not meant to be one of them.
