Casual ARPG makes no sense

I mean, I agree, but sadly, that ship has sunk.

Diablo 4 could have been so much more. Blizzard, as a company really needs to find better leadership.

It won’t happen though,do you think people are going to keep putting up with game overhauls and legacy gear?

Legacy gear only impacted the eternal server. And yes they handled that very poorly.

I don’t know what others will put up with. I can only say I am currently looking for reasons to play this game for longer than an hour per session as the current set of stuff to do I have exhausted for a few seasons now.

Eternal is a graveyard, but it shouldn’t be. I hate to say it over and over, but look at Poe 2,standard play will be a thing with all the new content and the casual player.

My character in POE is in Standard play
I was just trying it out, I was not sure how much I was going to play it before D4 launched. I went back to POE in the month and a half where I was waiting for this game.
Yeah I like how that way is much better.

Beta atm, release i feel is a long way off.

I just wish Blizzard was setting the bar, making Trends along side GGG.

You and a lot of Diablo franchise players.

It’s not a Casual ARPG because you’re right, it doesn’t make any sense. It’s a Shallow ARPG. Or, an Isometric Action Game.

Would you PoE tools just go to the poe forums already.

For a moment I was considering checking it out to see what the fuss was all about. I hate poe1 but maybe this was better but seeing all these poe posts makes me realize that these people are going to be there and is what I’ll have to put up with I’d rather not.

This.

Right now this current system is working by edging both groups, however there will come a time when they need to cater to one of them or both will give up and leave.

Chase two hares and you end up with neither, a game for everyone is a game for no one, etc.

I would say Diablo has always been accessible to both, people play diablo for funzies and for flexing there skills.

That said compared to Poe and other titles, the gearing and progression won’t satisfy the elite and those that want more complexity.

D4 has depth it’s just more accessible, and I see it building as we go. Excluding busted builds, I would say at least for me, the progression to T4 is not casual. So I appreciate the new layout where endgame now has 4 difficulty tiers and you are not really missing out tbh, If you don’t make it to T4.

If anything I think it needs to be more casual on the mats and paragon progression for seasonal at least, It’s not going to be viable for most gamers to put in the required hours.

It’s why i dislike seasons, you have to no life them basically to get the most out of it, that said once legacy gear is a thing of the past, there is less need to keep up, and I can continue on Eternal at my own pace to experience T4. If i didn’t make it per season.

To me a casual gaming is a thing more than a casual game, I just think you would have to be looking at it from a pro gamer perspective to call D4 casual.

Any game with difficulty modes can be played casually.
So a souls like or survival horror for example tends to be less casual gamer friendly as they a mechanically difficult on purpose from the get go.

arpgs , tend to not do that imo, poe was probably the first known to me to do it due to its overwhelming tree for example. That said, playing as a noob, you can still casually play poe and enjoy it, even though you may struggle at to keep up with the jones. :man_shrugging:

Well luckily for you we have a treat coming December 6th.

You don’t have to read the post you know. There are lots of post about the topic for a reason. Start the D$ good post see what comes up.

This is one of the most absurd takes I’ve read here… and that’s saying something.

Diablo at its conception was supposed to a more accessible RPG, NOT a hardcore experience… go read the original design docs if you don’t believe me, or just actually look at what it has been compared to other RPGs of the day… and don’t trip up over the A, it just means action.

Most of your expressions aside from a bit of actual criticism at the end, are just whinging about what you don’t like… NBD, I do that all the time. But i’m not so divorced from reality that I think my preferences are objective fact.

So here’s a quote I’m sure you won’t recognize… “…Just because you don’t like it, don’t mean it ain’t no good…” The song is titled “You Can’t Bring Me Down”

That’s the problem. The shine wears off in D4 when it’s supposed to get really good. All the goodness here is the tip of the iceberg, except there’s nothing underwater.

Gaming community wasn’t as large as today back then. Video games were seen a childish endeavor. Most gamers were teens or collage students with a lot of time in hand. Also it wasn’t an activity for the popular kids it was a bit of a nerdy thing.
Today gaming community is much larger. Probably because those teens are adults now and still consider gaming as a hobby and more people has access to devices for gaming in general.

As a result companies try to target much larger demographics. They want to maximize profits so they somehow need to reach those people who has a nice income but doesn’t have enough time. Naturally pretty much every game became more casual friendly.

One thing that is rarely pointed out is while this is true, the experience and skill set coming from gaming accumulates over time, making these people, even if they start having more responsibilities as adults, potentially much better at gaming than they were 15-20 years ago. Which then moves the goalpost of what is considered hardcore and what is not.

I think its one of the reasons D4 just falls of flat with the way its designed, it could be a decent game for casual audience if it was released 10 years ago, but right now for an average player that can understand basic theorycrafting it just lacks depth.

Bingo .

I absolutely agree with you. I think as long as best progression remains doing repeated activities as quick as you can, game doesn’t have a lot of chance to gain depth.

If you’re barely ready for T4 it’s best to stay at T3. There’s no point in forcing yourself through T4 for anything other than glyph leveling. You may actually find it fun to struggle for a while but you’re wasting time for sure. If you go back to T3. You feel like you’re in a theme park nothing is really hard. I wonder how you know who will balance this, if they ever can.
