I have had over 100 legendary rings to drop and not once have I got one to drop with aspect of the umbral. I am playing as a Necromancer. I have just one question… WHY!? Please, if anyone has any info for me it would be greatly appreciated.
Resource aspects can only roll on rings, but rings can also have offensive aspects, which are plentiful. So it’s just poor odds of having both a ring legendary to drop and rolling that one aspect among many possibilities.
I didn’t get umbral to drop on my character until it was 80 something. It’s unfortunately quite rare.

I got mine from the vendor guy spending all my obols on rings.
Actually got two that way, the first was a ‘1’ and the other was a ‘3’.

resource regen aspects are all in ring, go gamble it instead. do whispers and hell tides.

Yeah I have been doing all that. Just bad luck I guess. I’ll keep grinding it out, but it is kinda brutal. Thanks for the replys.
It’s because their loot table sucks. They NEED to have something like:
List of uniques…when one of them drops (randomly of course), it’s off the list of uniques that have a chance to drop. With this method eventually you’ll get what you’re looking for. Once ALL uniques have drop, it restarts.
Sure does suck.
I’m level 85.25 and I’ve only ever gotten one from gambling and it rolled a 2.
I’ve also never found a ring good enough to even put it on, so I’m still sitting on a codex version on a Sacred tier ring.

Same for bold cheiftan for barb. I’ve had one drop in my entire career so far.
The game designers forgot that in order for an intermittent reward schedule to work, a reward must eventually be issued.

Buying rings from the books vendor is your best bet. Specially since it gives chance at two other useful aspects
They technically have the same chance to roll as any other aspect that can roll on that gear type. It just feels like it doesn’t because it’s the only one you’re looking for and runs of bad luck happen.
The opposite happens too. Within an hour of replying to this thread I found an ancestral ring with 3/4 stat lines, rolled the fourth line. Two of those lines are max rolls. I ran over to the obol vendor and use my obols and landed on an Umbral 4.
RNG is RNG. Sometimes it feels good, sometimes it doesn’t. Unfortunately with the way stats work…percentages only even out as you approach infinitely. In the short term, it’s quite likely that you end up with very skewed stats if there isn’t a mechanism in place to artificially level them.
I have the same issue, and I’m getting so frustrated with not getting Umbral drops it’s now taking the fun out of the game.
I literally spend all of my obols on rings, take Tree of Whispers ring collections every time I have them, open every ring chest during helltides, run countless nmd’s, and NOTHING.
I have a level 70 rogue and an 83 druid. In all that game time, I’m still using the crappy, almost useless 1 spirit codex imprint.
Please don’t defend this, it isn’t simply “RNG”, Aspect of the Umbral clearly has a significantly lower drop rate than other aspects. If it were pure RNG, then I would have gotten 5-10 Umbral rings by now. I don’t feel like it’s rare because I’m looking for it, I feel like it’s rare because I’ve gotten 10-15+ of EVERY OTHER ASPECT, but can’t get an Umbral ring.
Hell, I’ve even gotten a Tempest Roar and still haven’t gotten an Umbral ring.
Seriously, this needs adjustment.

I am level 90 now. Not a single umbral aspect dropped for me like cmon… thats not bad rng thats bugged. I already found 3 tempest roar and other rare items but not a single freaking umbral. Blizzard… wtf?
I have a few and one is perfect. It is a shame we can’t trade them in this game. In the days of D2 I would have said to join my game and given it for free as I am not ever going to use it anyway.

So I’m a lvl 97 Druid and until today I had one only ring with umbral drop and was a 2. Today I have had TWO drop lol, both still 2 but gives me hope 
Fixed glitch perhaps?
Edit: and now a THIRD today and finally a 3……… there’s RNG and then there’s this lol 
What do you mean by books vendor?
Lvl 92 gamble all obols on rings and never seen a single one. Honestly it’s absurd.
