Beta Feedback from an old player

I have level up a sorcerer at World Tier2 level up until lvl 25 and completed most the quest, dungeons, and Act 1.

I have to say that I’m really impress by the level of details of the environment the weather changes and the dark atmosphere in general. Diablo went back to its root.

So far for a beta I will give the game 8/10.

I would have given a 7/10 due to the queue at the beginning of the beta but you guys fixt it. I will also forgive some of the lag understanding that it is a beta.

Pros

-The world feels huge and invite you for its exploration, and I can only imagine with couples of expansions down the road how big this game has the potential to be

-The story is good so far

-Absolutely in love wit the Open Worlds events, I was very happy with the varieties of the events and how many of them we have considering that this is the first zone of the game

-Dungeons variety really like it; I absolutely love the fact that when you enter a dungeon depending of the environment you already know the type of mobs you will go against, I think smart players will change their build accordingly and this is great.

-Gathering no needs to say more, I imagine that depending on the zone you will find different type of herbs mine… and this is great

-Itemizations / loot so far no complain we can transmog and when I was looting an item, I could feel right away the difference that it made in terms of DPS and survivability plus the fact that can remove the affix form a legendary, I can see a lot of flexibility for future class builds

-Weather, Environments, Music allow the players to be fully immerse in the game

-The combat is a good mix between D2 and D3, not too fast not too slow, a bit more tactical than D3, I truly enjoy that you have to priorities certain mobs when you attack a pack of mobs

Cons

  • The UI needs a bit of love, it feels clunky at time

  • Diablo 4 should offer the possibility like in Diablo2 to play offline like a single player. Of course, your single player character should not have access to the multiplayer game like in Diablo 2. This could be a big turn off for a lot of players, we do not like to rely on on-line services all the time.

  • World Boss, I don’t mind the minimum requirement, but I truly think that it should scale as per the numbers of players that are involve during the event. The more player doing it during the event the more HP the World Boss should have, and its abilities / mechanics should scale accordingly and vice versa when you have less player doing it

-Open Worlds event, same as above

-The cost to crafting (this involve all kind of crafting), it’s too expensive I think a 20% reduction will be more appropriate

-Some tunings are required for certain elements some of them hit like wet noodle and some hit like a truck I’m looking at you poison and when mobs are leeching your life

All these cons are not game breaking, but I truly believe that the single player option is a must

We can really see the love and the attention to details that Dev teams have put into the game

I have played all the Diablo game, I’m 45 years old and all I can say is good job Blizzard, sure the game is not perfect but I can see that we have diamond in the rough.

TL;DR-
While I’m not a fan of the multiplayer aspects of the game, it’s not going to kill my enthusiasm.

One of the gripes I’ve seen over and over again is the weird mashup we have here of the MMO and ARPG. While I did the pre-purchase here and was initially uncomfortably surprised at the multiplayer aspect—so much so I was nearly looking for a refund—I found myself enjoying the story, and the fact that I didn’t have to interact with anyone if I didn’t want to was a plus in my eyes. I’ve played WoW, ESO, and a couple of other MMOs, but I’m strictly a PvE player. I don’t play for endgame content. I don’t “raid to get better equipment to raid with.” 90% of the games I play I do so for the story (the other 10% are mobile games which I play to kill time). The guilds I’ve been a part of in those MMOs have been small groups of IRL friends, none of which are even slightly interested in D4. I’d like to know for sure that I can complete the story without needing a group of “friends” to slay the demons. And any quests that have multiplayer requirements, if any, should be noted somehow. A different color, perhaps?

As another “old” player (41 here), I’ll post my pros and cons here as well:

Pros-

  • The size of the world and the exploration aspect are good. Love the variety of environments and graphical detail.
  • Good story thus far—not the same rehashing of the same story, there’s some new stuff here.
  • The tactical aspect of the fighting—needing to know how to approach the battle in order to complete it—is refreshing and frustrating at the same time. I can figure out the mechanics of some bosses fairly easily, but with some it takes several attempts. This is both a pro and a con, but I think falls more in the pro category.

Cons-

  • Not sure what to do with the resource gathering yet, perhaps I haven’t paid enough attention? I did just fine with the random weapon/armor/health potion drops and at least thus far haven’t seen a need to respec, upgrade, or mess with the equipment I get that way.
  • I get the notification/popup saying that I cleared one of the mini-dungeons/cellars when I’m still in the middle of a pitched battle. I’m sure I completed the objectives I needed to for that, but telling me that I’ve “Cleared the Haunted Cellar” or whatever when I’m still fighting for my life isn’t helpful.
  • When I’ve cleared a dungeon, I don’t want to spend 10 minutes backtracking through it again. One of the dungeons had a teleporter that took you back to where you needed to go next, but this could be implemented more widely, I think. I know you can teleport to Kyovashar (but in this beta that nearly always crashed the game for me), but the town isn’t usually where you want to go.

Bugs?-

  • When Lorath got on his horse in Kyovashar, he sat on it backwards before suddenly flipping around.
  • When I was on the pilgrimage to the Alabaster Monastery, I died. After this death, though I picked up the idol and continued the pilgrimage, I never got the effects of the darkness aura and slow speed. The remainder of the pilgrimage was thus much simpler. I don’t think this is intended.
  • Probably because it’s a pre-rendered cutscene, but when I visited the Alabaster Monastery to visit Inarius, my armor and facial features suddenly changed. That…could be improved upon, most likely.

That’s my 2¢…

I’ll also add my 2 cents worth…

-They should bring back stamina potion and run feature like D2 and also light radius
-The camera view should be slightly more higher to view more of the map
-Don’t know if this is a problem or not but I would also like to utilize my full mouse scroll up and down wheel to set to skills instead of zoom in and out.
-Would be good if u could level up weapons individually to power them up

But overall I like the game in general and appreciate the effort they put into this.

=)

You can bring up your map and click the ladder to exit the dungeon or use the exit dungeon on your emote menu.

-The cost to crafting (this involve all kind of crafting), it’s too expensive I think a 20% reduction will be more appropriate

The cost of crafting is always high early on. Once you are 50 with 3000 paragon on T16, you’ll have more materials then you know what to do with.

Go, make a fresh seasonal character on D3 (no challenge cache) get to level 25 (solo) and see what you can afford, hint…it’s not much
