Anyone else NOT going to be following builds and metas

For me it was always going to be Druid or Barbarian because I like the way melee combat feels. You feel the impact of skills at close quarters a bit more. Dodging also has more impact. Timing your burst window is a big deal as well. You learn more fight mechanics and overall get a better feel for the game.

I played both of those classes before Necro in open beta and server slam and found Necro early game to be too easy, and that was with the nerfed skellies. Playing melee classes first just hits different and that’s why I decided to settle on Druid, no matter how painful the grind is.

Will likely play melee class as I hate ranged as you only just about see the enemy you’re fighting when zapping them at range. I do wish the game would pan out a little further to make it a little more absorbing, as I find Diablo games very claustrophobic. Barbarian, Rouge or Druid for me.

I do hate YouTubers as they tend to destroy the community with their builds/guides as a lot of gamers are very impressionable and gullible to the idea that things can only be achieved by builds seen on YouTube. Makes for a very dull and monotonous community experience in my opinion.

I am SO with you, Ironclad (cool name btw). ASG … and those other streamers … they like to build controversy … otherwise … WHY watch them … when you could watch cute animal videos instead (they can be addictive) :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :wolf: :cat: :bear:

Anyway … the point is … driving a ā€œwedgeā€ in the gaming community only benefits the streamers … it does not benefit the GAMERS. :expressionless:

Unfortunately … this is the current world we live in … so we gotta stick together! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

See you all in-game!

The streamer community, like the gaming community is also competing for your views and dollars. That’s how it works. You have to drive the views and generate clicks and need more than just your target audience to tune in in order to optimize monetization.

You will see them call a game trash one day and stream it the next. Or you will see them download a highly rated game and call it trash and quit within minutes. You will also sometimes see them purposely struggle with harder games. Imagine that people that understand games mechanics and have the reaction time and hand eye coordination to literally beat anything struggling with a game. Only it’s all just part of the stream to draw the viewers in. Remember ā€œ17 damage?ā€ He’s rating the Druid #2 at endgame after calling it trash in the beta.

And that’s pretty much all it is. Watch them for the entertainment, most are 95% entertainment and 5% information. You can learn from the occasional guide video sure but you still need to put the information into practice.

At this point we are going to have to. Each class only has like 1 string build with maybe another close enough to go at it.

Druid had one build in Pulverize that was viable and they nerfed that, day 2 lol…

They are pushing hard to make this game like Path of Exile in that there is usually just 1-2 ā€œMetaā€ classes and that’s what everybody plays until the next big patch. It’s a really gross way to force gameplay into 1 lane so they can create longevity in a game that lacks content. This patch it’s this build so they know mostly everyone wants to push forward so they go that route, then a big patch comes and it’s oh wow, that skill is gonna be good now. This has gone on for years, just a shame that in a game very new, they didn’t balance stuff better so you can try everything and feel satisfied.

Agreed! I am enjoying the game at my own pace. Discovering things myself is half the fun.

Normally I always meta build and use guides and stuff. But I took the bonespear summoner build and made it my own, I’ve stopped looking at guides and I’m enjoying it. And I’m willing T18 maps at level 58

Yes same for me! I hate rushing. There’s so many things to explore and the world looks so amazing. I want to taste each minute.

Yep! Always toy with my own! Way more fun hitting the drawing board. And more exciting. I don’t wanna know or look for certain drops. I wanna be stoked when I get one

Yes I’m NOT going to be following builds and meta but,

I just saw that for instance Frost Sorcerer is good and I watched the guide on my side screen to get an idea of the build, then I just make a Frost build off of what I’ve all heard is good on Raxxanterax and what works.

I’m not going to follow a talent tree perfection right now, but maybe in the future we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. As in if I can’t get past the lvl 70 capstone I made need to respec.

But yeah I hear a lot on Twitch and Youtube but, I use their ideas to make my own build that works for me for a while.

One thing is you don’t know always why the top players took a certain talent either and, it may be a wasted talent point for you if you’re not running the same content. I mean every one is different.

I don’t really like looking up builds for arpgs and like to make my own. For my rogue that I got level 45 I used 2 basic attacks, one to attack super fast and walk through enemies and the other that puts vulnerable when using under 50 energy. Used flurry to apply vuln on all enemies or just aoe things down and rapid fire for big single target dmg. Then used poison imbue and shadow imbue. Basically I would run in, get 3 quick combo points, do flurry 4 times to use up all energy, put vuln on something, shadow imbue of aoe then flurry or poison imbue for rapid fire single target. Worked pretty well, got it to lvl 45 then wanted to try barb after killing lillith in 30 seconds.

On barb I’m using the cap stone that gives attack speed for 6 seconds when using a dw move, 2h mace and 2h blade skill. So I used 3 basic attacks for it which gives the added dmg reduction. I used the chains move to get berserk and my core skill is double swing. So I go in, 3 dw basic attacks, bleed basic then stun basic, chains, double strike, basic, double, basic etc. So far at level 34 it’s working pretty well so far.

I’m late to the party but yes, no build guides. I’ve found a bunch of earth skill aspects on legendaries that synergize well it seems. Main skill being landslide and it’s quite fun and effective.

Maybe later down the road when I hit a brick wall I’ll look for some guidance in optimizing a build
