Another one banned for alleged use of malicious 3rd party software today

My account got banned for alleged use of 3rd party software few hours ago.

I’ve submitted a ticket to support and googled a bit, stumbled upon this post that describes my situation pretty accurately and decided to post about it as well to emphasize the scale of false-positive 3rd party software bans and give some thoughts on what I find similar b/w us and probably rare among other players:

Similarly to the post above I have a Chia node running on my PC, which obviously is completely game-unrelated, but it’s running all the time and is based on python, so maybe that’s what Blizzard is looking for.

In addition - I have the Easy Anti-Cheat software installed as part of Star Citizen game package, maybe it does something Blizzard agent doesn’t like.

Whatever that is - it’s false positive and I’m looking forward to it being fixed by Blizzard.

If you are another false-positive - share your experience, it may help Blizzard debug their anti-cheat.

Does not matter what app caused the false positive. It is still a false positive. Ask for a GDPR based information about your ban. Do not tell them you are outside of EU if you are non-EU. They cannot prove it via credit card data. Just ask for every information stored about the ban.

This should really help all the false-positive banned folks. Blizzard have to answer for this.

It’s a blessing in disguise

OP lying. Prolly running a bot or some other hack. There are no false positives, all bans are checked by a human before sent out.

FWIW I have Easy Anti-cheat installed as well…granted I uninstalled D4 well before seasons started and the ban wave, and was not banned…but I’m betting it’s the Chia app…which agreed, has nothing to do with the game. Maybe the devs hate pythong :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Lol. You are all now stuck learning Q basic.

I was also banned on 8/10 and also run Chia mining on the same machine. I have since it first came out. This is obviously a false positive affecting anyone running Chia.

Chia seems to be behind these bans.

I keep seeing Chia being mentioned…

What is a GDPR?

It won’t work in this case. It stands for General Data Protection Regulation which is an EU law regulating personal data collected by online companies. The game data isn’t personal data. Basically it prevents things like social media companies selling your personal data or using it without your explicit consent.

I just got banned for the same reason, I never used cheats or sploits

He’s currently busy creating his next thread about how amazing Season 1 is, and how much he loved Rod’s insight during the first fireside chat. Hopefully this buys us some time.

Looks like Blizzard fixed their banhammer, Just got an e-mail:

Greetings,

We recently closed a Diablo 4 game account on this Battle.net Account as part of our ongoing effort to combat exploitation and abusive behavior.

After an additional review of the evidence, we determined this closure was an error. We’re reopening this account for play, and hope you will accept our sincere apologies for the mistake.

Let alone the pleasant experience of a sudden ban, accompanied with e-mail:
“We don’t take this decision lightly. Our team issued this closure only after a careful review of relevant evidence. Our support staff will not overturn these closures.”

but inability to appeal due to broken web page and lack of response for over 24 hours - that was one of a kind customer experience that definitely got me thinking about my further game choices, thanks Blizzard.

In the meantime it was interesting to read comments on this forum, the saltiness of people unrelated to the ban wave, but still lingering in the comment section throwing their baseless accusations was quite something to read.

I played Diablo 1 and 2 in the 90’s and early 2000’s but didn’t go into the online versions till this year. People were warning me about their experience with Blizzard, but I guess I had to see for myself.
